Saying 'If this wasn't Pokemon it would be criticized more' shows a fundamental misunderstanding of the problems the game has.If a company out of nowhere released an open world city game with 230 playable units where you command them and explore the city with them, with a set of mechanics as broad as Pokemons type and effect systems is, that looked like this as an end of Switch 1 life game, people would criticize it FAR less. The flaws the game has are in its production value. The lack of detail in the city and the reliance on existing Pokemon assets. The over explanatory tutorial of mechanics people are already familiar with. These are things that are to be criticized exactly BECAUSE of the context of this being a Pokemon game. People criticize the low production value because the game is the flagship of the most successful entertainment products of all time. All Jimothessa or whatever that tranny has done here is show they have no idea what the actual problem with the game is.

I do appreciate that the city setting doesn't *really* work for this franchise but I appreciate the characters, the customisation, the tasks, and the length of time it's taking to get through. I also like how the city changes are you go through the game. The battle system doesn't work for me either but even with that I appreciate that it's at least more challenging than previous games. Most people's complaints are about the flat buildings, but I'm sorry why does it matter when you barely take notice of them anyway?

The flaws of these games are only deemed worthy of this high level of criticism specifically because the company making them has been around so long and makes so much money. People's expectations are what they are because the Pokemon name, and the associated aspects of that. What the game does overall would be considered impressive as a debut game, and relatively unique.
