>>58558395>>58558444Baxter Stockman from TMNT came to mind, guy went from losing an eye, to losing his legs, to losing everything but his head, to just being a floating brain and eye.
>>58558444Mmm, kinda hard given that immortality "now" isn't a thing just a ridiculous lifespan until stated otherwise, again. You could turn him into a Yamask or use him in a Gu ritual to make a spiritomb
>>58558361I don't like seeing anybody suffer. I'm a bleeding heart.Unless it's for fetish reasons. Then cute girls and pregnant women.
>>58558485>Gu ritual to make a spiritombThis gives me a fun idea for a thread. What 108 characters and pokemon would you cram into a spiritomb?
>>58558518I'd cram in a dugtrio, exeggutor, dodrio, magneton, maushold, etc, and fill the remaining slots with other spiritomb.
>>58558471I can see it
>>58558370Mega Starmie Z-move

And to that anon working on a ZA re-write, something I toyed around with for my own fetish-filled Lumiose story but won’t be getting to anytime soon, was Paxton was going to be undercover for the International Police (for whatever reason, hadn’t gotten beyond that) and he’d arrive with an undercover Anabel. So of course when they get introduced to the Looker Bureau, Anabel and Emma get to go detective-ing.Paxton being a trainer recruit for the IP would also help make having fully developed mons on his team more palatable for readers.
Is borne of caution still a thing? Is it still enjoyable? Last chapter I read was entirely mid, seems like the story is on life support and he's moved onto some other story

>>58559818Pros:>Excellent battles and strategies>Cool world building, the setting feels lived in>Great characterization of the mons>Highly influential in the fandom, half the fics I’ve read have some mention of nutrition in them, which wasn’t widespread beforeIt’s a pretty definitive Pokémon Journeyfic at this point, and yes, definitive in that it’ll likely never be finished is a part of it.Cons>Dude reeeeeally wants to fuck the fox>Typical power fantasy stuff, it feels more earned than other SI fics but still pretty egregious>The biggest example of this is he’s the only person ever to consider nutrition for Pokémon in the world>MCs have likely become too powerful too quickly and the power scaling is likely going to get really wonkey really soon in order for future battles to feel compelling or uncertain>Author opened a Patreon and chapter production ground to a halt>Did I mention he wants to fuck the fox? It’s highly influential and something I’d tell every wannabe fic writer (journeyfic specifically) to read to get an idea of what people have been influenced by.

>>58560962first time I've heard of this but I'm completely unsurprised
Are there any fics where the isekai MC is a pokemon in a non-PMD world and has to actually work with a trainer instead of "transforming into a human/illusions"

>>58561244too badIf you were writing one, what pokemon would you pick to write about and should the trainer be a girlI feel like I'm onto the next BoC here. A human/poke relationship, in reverse, with plenty of bait for readers
>>58558485GhetsisTomb's ego is going to so enormous that he'll end up eating the rest of spirits trapped inside and powering up. You'll end up with an ascended Spiritomb and then have to enlist the help of the greatest ghost type trainer to help you with your issue.
>>58561235In Ranger's ShadowShaded SilkUnbroken DisguiseLittle Leavanny in the Big CityA Backwards Grin
>>58561235I actually plan on having my MC be isekai'd partway through my fic but actually having him be the random body some isekaijin from another universe unwittingly highjacks. The fic changes to his friend's point of view as they slowly piece together that he has been body snatched.
>>58561302Haven't found a place to shoehorn aura into my fic yet. As a kanto fic there isn't much place for it unless I decide to make Ash show up in it.
>>58561334The Tree of Beginning and Rota are in Kanto so if you really need to, you can shoehorn in some Aura Knights and Aaron's crystal or whatever.
>Everybody's talking about Spiritomb while I'm in the middle of writing about how the Spiritomb in my fic came to be createdSpoopy...
>>58561334If the MC is a pokemon, they naturally use aura and type energy. MC can explore cultivating as a pokemon and helping their trainer and the rest of their team.Where it gets weird is the pokemon itself. Anything that's human shaped is a cop out. And dogs+women meme, but that could work positively as a way to bait fans. Poochyena male has to deal with female pooches being bigger than him lol
>>58561318>A Backwards GrinShe doesn't stick with a trainer for long
>>58561347>came to be createdGu ritual bro
>>58561345Huh. Tree of Life sounds neat but I don't feel like it would fit my fic very well, but...>Aaron's crystalWeird artifact bullshit would fit great. I never saw that movie but I'll look into it.
>>58561430Iirc the crystals are what lets them use aura so you could think of it as materia from FF and shove type crystals or something
>>58561427I don't know what that's supposed to be so I'm doing my own thing.
>>58561443>In East Asia there is a type of black magic conducted by women that is known in China as 'gu' and in Japan as 'kodoku. ' It involves sealing several venomous insects (eg. scorpion, centipede) in a jar & allowing them to kill each other until only one survives
>>58561455Oh, that's pretty neat. Mine's a lot more tragic than that. I also used a mishmash of both human and Pokemon souls.
>>58561427I want to perform a Gu ritual with a ghost girl if you know what I mean
>>58561441Oh my fic isn't a battle fic. I don't need to make up stuff.
>>58561318Are any of these actual pokemon journey fics, or are they, i don't know the word to describe it, but "shitty drama autistic fics where they talk about emotions way too much and being a pokemon adds nothing to the story."

I have started seeing this theory going around about how Zygarde learns/adapt/assimilates the other Regions gimmicks to himself so as to better do his job. More specifically, that he may have been involved during the Darkest Day in some way and that him going 100% is him learning how to not-Dynamax just like Nihil Light is him learning how to not-Z Move.Thoughts on it?
>>58562106Sounds like cope
>>58562106That's a pretty nifty idea that I'll have to keep in mind.Aura Break is an adaptation to Xerneas and Yveltal's own abilities. I wonder if it could be used against Groudon, Kyogre, and Rayquaza.
>>58562106I don’t see it.
>>58562166How about he learns to adapt to Cubchoo using Powder Snow
>>58558471Goated TMNT series btw. Although I wish they were as daring with other aspects as they were with Stockman.

>>58563349Baby mon training arc that guides into another capture or two so they have peers.Have them nearly die from a legendary-tier foe, setting back their strength to early levels and even devolving them but retaining all their knowledge so that they can take the world by storm under new identities using their accumulated knowledge

>>58563349"Too strong" is just a videogame and shonen battle thing. Realistically its not a thing. Even the best warrior in the world is still at risk of losing every battle he faces due to bullshit like dumb luck. Famous hero from Irish lore, supernaturally stromg dude, died while swimming because a blind fisherman was spear fishing that day. Just don't attach concrete power level shit to your fic and you never have to worry about it.
>>58563349Degenerate them so their aptitude can increase
This thread is too obsessed with power and strength and battling. So. I dare you, Anonymous, to write a Pokemon fic that has no battling or combat in it. Whatsoever.Hard mode: It can't be smut, either.
>>58563733Just make it a contest fic lol
>>58563733So that one Galar baking fix?
>>58563349Let them finish their story.

>>58563510>bla bla bla humans can be stabbed so magic armored monsters are in dangeryou're in the wrong genre, get out. You're 1 step away from muh mutilated pokemon after battle memes
>>58563733You're a dumbass retard. Literally 99% of pokemon fics have no battle and are just dumb drama garbage and shipping smut. Here's a real challenge: Write a Pokemon fic that actually needs pokemon in it for the story, and not just a cheap device to outline your porn addiction to.
>>58563349ESCALATION >B-but ESCALATION

>>58564026Look, i know that i let myself be captured by a net... But it was a very good net, it would have been a shame to break it just to get free.
>>58563994I'm writing an edge fic, what sounds funnier: TF2 comical levels of chunky salsa and screaming (I'll get creative with the deaths; a bit of you! and another bit of you! and your liver!) or horrific descriptions of gore being treated really casually (trying to talk with a broken or missing jaw and setting it manually, having to pick up his own severed head after getting revived, referees trying to determine if eating a severed limb to heal counts as an illegal item usage or not, etc)? >>58564026>>58564144A tiny net is a death sentence, anons. It is a net and it is tiny.
>>58564022Ash, being retarded as usual, failed to account that team Magma members cultivate both Fire and Earth Aura, rendering electric attacks useless.
>>58564158>Fire and Earth AuraI unironically thought about this kind of stuff to mimic Pokémon more closely
>>58564157>what sounds funnierBoth have the potential to get stale so be sparing, but personally I think the deadpan style is funnier for written media. Chunky salsa is visually funny but may be hard to write in a funny way.
>>58563349The great part of Pokémon as far as fights go is you can have some absurdly powerful Pokémon, but if they go up against a type mismatch of at least a near-peer adversary, then they’re kinda toast. If you’re doing 6v6 battles, then have the MC start the battle with a type mismatch. If they lose that first 1v1, they’re basically playing catch-up until they can overcome the type mismatches (which should be the big moment of the fight that isn’t the finale). The opposing trainer has to be competent of course, but that should go without saying. If a trainer is “too powerful” in the setting, then other trainers will study that string trainer and zero in on their weaknesses. It’s either that or the opponents start using a Legendary/UB/Paradox Mon.
You know, my outline didn't include a woman being torn in half by an Abomasnow in front of her daughter, but it's doing wonders for the dramatic tension of the scene.
>>58564004read the spoiler
>humans are smart and have all these abilities and have dexterous hands and can do all sorts of martial arts, but only if they train for it and practice, otherwise they flail and strike randomlypokemon are the same way, except its harder because super powers are mostly instinctive. That's why trainers are needed and wild pokemon tend to be weak even when they're strong
>Set flashback far in the past at a well-known location >Indicate the gulf in time and a different group of people than the modern inhabitants living there by referring to the area by its Japanese name instead of EnglishBased or cringe?
>>58564361>be subtleGood advice. I'm gonna keep the gore to when the MC needs to inspect someone after a pretty standard battle description or just as a really fast off hand comment or description (like a Gallade knocks the enemy out but then the trainer can't give him a high five as usual because his arms are broken or missing; "hey you should see the other guy" joke comes after that). Unrelated, I remember reading somewhere on the board about a weaker pokemon overexerting and hurting itself out of sheer competitive spirit and the desire to win, and I thought that was real interesting as the opposite of a much stronger pokemon throwing the match. I don't remember exactly.
>>58564787Based. Could throw in the other languages like French names for Kalos mons depending on the lingua franca (heh) for the time period.
>>58564787This is what the most evil gay man did
>Ask Ao3 fags on reddit if I should tag my twist villain>Most say I should, giving no fucks about the massive spoilers involvedThis is what I get for asking reddit, let alone Ao3 fags on reddit. It's kinda shitty the villain that's never done right will have no love on their tag if I don't tag them eventually though.
>>58565341No you shouldn't out who it is and you shouldn't tag that there's a twist villain at all.
>>58563733I'm already writing PokeNormal like this in spirit. The main characters are not battlers, but technically there are times where side characters battle.
>>58563994Homie, I'm going to be real with you. That was an aggressive misunderstanding of that point I'm trying to make. I wasn't saying all combat has to be gritty and realistic, I'm saying you shouldn't try to codify power level shit into your narrative. Its just lazy writing to say somebody is 'too strong to be beaten'. Even power fantasy shit is improved by not being so shallow. Don't write your pokemon battles like a collection of stats being run through a program with a predictable result. That's how you avoid the 'protag too strong' problem.
>>58564004Also PokeNormal, and Crystal Light too for good measure. Both are stories that couldn't work without Pokemon.
>>58563510>Even the best warrior in the world is still at risk of losing every battle he faces due to bullshit like dumb luck>the dumb luck in question
>>58565885To be fair I feel like many pokemon battles could be improved by random meteors. Keep em on their toes.
>>58565905I just remember that DP anime gag where Gible's Draco Meteor always hit Piplup no matter what
>>58563349An alternative solution.Learn how to write a powerful protagonist well enough that not being challenged often is still entertaining. Goku dealing with guys with guns is still always funny as hell. A good fic isn't just a vehicle for battles. And even if you are writing a fic that is all about the battles you can just learn to write curbstomp battles to be interesting. Mob Psycho 100 has the MC easily outclass others without even trying and the fights are still emotionally fulfilling and great spectacles.Man, now my urge to write good battles is itching. Good thing my next chapter is battle focused.
>>58564158Fool that you are, you failed to see that their clothing has horns, which everyone knows is the weak spot of all Earth types. What, Lightning Rod explicitly nullifies electric attacks? No idea what you're talking about.
>>58565597>Famous hero from Irish lore, supernaturally stromg dude, died while swimming because a blind fisherman was spear fishing that daynow this is good writing
>>58563349Honestly I'm still in my early arcs but my plan long-term is just tiering both the heroes and villains. The MCs are weak early on, but the side characters are powerful and can keep them safe while they're being introduced to more powerful villains that are currently way too strong for them. Their early rivalries are against more grunt-level opponents that either can't or won't pose deadly harm fighting them alone, so they can grow over time to take on the more threatening villains themselves.
>>58566340bold of you to assume anybody is going to read the next chapter after what you pulled, you monsterBut on a completely unrelated noted, just finished the latest chapter of PokeNormal after too damn long.https://archiveofourown.org/works/66247705/chapters/186705291Big, and I mean BIG, trouble is coming. Plus I threw in just a teensy tiny bit of Leon slander. As a treat.
>>58565597Sometimes you lose...by being too strong...
>>58563349Having issues that cannot just be solved with strength, like awful memories and tensions leftover from a war, dealing with orphaned babies for a while, solving a murder case, what to do with abused pokemon, or perhaps a growing arrogance within the main team which causes slip-ups in battle or terrible consequences narratively.
>>58564158What type Auras do the different villain team grunts cultivate (barring Aqua, which is obvious)?
>>58566236https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fergus_mac_R%C3%B3ich>name literally means manliness>two main traits are being huge and sexually potent>stabbed in the chest by a spear while swimming, climbs out and throws the spear back to kill the dog of the guy who tricked the blind guy into stabbing him before dyingFate has taught me that Irish heroes were fucking beasts.

What's the deal with Fairy trainers? What is it about their type or their training that makes them all touched in the head?
>>58566652That's just how fairies are. Back in the day if you were a fucking weirdo people blamed it on fairies.
>>58566652Fairy types are the truest to themselves, so it's only expected that Fairy specialists would similarly be shameless. Just be glad the pokemon world is a child-friendly utopia, otherwise those Fairy specialists would be shameless in much worse ways.

>>58566652Fairies are a hazard to people and should be genocided out of the pokemon world. Nothing could go wrong. Trust.

>>58567311I'm about five chapters into Prince of Po Town. It's been interesting so far, I'd say the humiliation ritual talk is a touch exaggerated. It's out of my comfort zone for fics (not that I've read a ton of Pokemon fics) but I'm enjoying it so far. Need to start dropping comments on it.
>>58567229One of my commenters was an absolute gigachad.>Post chapter, includes first interaction with the twist villain>First comment calls it with little to no context, just a hunch>Other commenters disagree, explain reasons (mostly my red herrings)>Gigachad commenter sees a few more clues and concludes it, doesn't cite them I guess as a favor to me>Maybe commenter is just setting up the ultimate dunk on other commentersI did eventually PM them and say they're a fucking legend. Also do it faggot, you're not the first to guess it, but probably the first on that site.>>58567335Unironically, I didn't start posting it until I'd finished chapter 6 because that's the "big" chapter, so to speak.
>>58567097Dark hands wrote this.
>>58567311I started reading that random pokephilia story that anon from trash posted. Not really into pokephilia, but they write short chapters so I blew through half of what they had so far pretty quickly. Haven't even got to the poke'fucking yet, but the premise of a dude who knows nothing about pokemon getting isekai'd and just being incredibly nonchalant about the whole thing has been pretty funny.
>>58567527>>58567097Fairies are the antithesis of the je—I mean dragon clans who run the pokeworld behind the scenes. Fairies had to go as they were an unacceptable affront to them, Arceus's chosen type.

>>58566950Honestly I love comments on older chapters. Even nothing level comments are cool cause even then they at least give me somewhat of an idea to what readers are paying attention too. Its like being a DM in d&d, you can make a lot of plans but you can't predict what will really stick out in the readers mind.
>>58569405Now I'm thinking about Pokesuba
>>58569066The anime’s ability to make legendary pokemon really lame is quite something
>>58569979Curious about how that would go…>Isekai protag gets a Gardevoir that wants to fuck him>He’s not a Pokephile so he constantly rejects it, opting on trying to get gym badges instead>Gardevoir only tries to win battles so he’ll love her>MC catches a Dratini, he’s really hyped for it>It refuses to train, battle, or do anything other than eat and laze around>Starter is a Cyndaquil that only will battle female trainers>Catches a Legendary and is super hyped, but it turns out to be a DittoThinking traveling companions… maybe a female former evil team grunt who actively wants to lose to make trainers and pay with sex… Other would be some canon gym leader who got relieved of duties for being lazy or something.

>>58570803I've got plans to use Bede in my fic, and for him I'm wanting to exemplify it by him never being truthful with his words. >>58570803>(actually they're just a fucking cunt)Make the work acknowledge this trait and make the fey specialist a trickster/manipulative.

The villain of the natural world who teaches a morale via destroying the foolish. A monster wearing the clothes of a man that preys on the innocent. Grimsnarl, mawhile, granbull. Plays on the wild nature of the fey in a less whimsical way.Oberon, king of fairies, the goblin prince. The lord who stands at the top of the high courts of fantasies, the ultimate master of the confusing and archiac web of fairy law. A hyper formal mastermind that doesn't need power to ruin you as he knows exactly how to manipulate your destruction with the least amount of effort possible.
>>58558471Wasn't he a fly man hybrid?
>>58558370I concur
>>58571147Ninja Turtles has had a lot of reboots with different shows, so Baxter Stockman has been a few different things. He is definitely a fly man in a lot of them, but its the same sort of thing with 'crazy scientist becomes more monstrous'.
>>58570803The fairies in pokemon aren’t even all manipulative so just make them normal.
