Anon ever since autosave was implemented (it wasn't mandatory until now, but it was still a thing before) they added the option to load a hard save separated from the autosaves, you just have to press Up, B and X at same time in the title screen.
For Z-A these backup saves are created when you are done talking to the Pokémon Center lady, so while you can't conveniently hard save at absolutely any time you can do stuff that autosaves the game and still go back as if nothing happened and appear in the last Pokémon Center visited.

I think I've just discovered dupe glitch. The first Shiny Alpha Lopunny was taken to Vert 8 before capture and nothing happened. The second Shiny Female Alpha Lopunny I caught today was Naive and brought to and captured at Zone 1. I immediately went back to Zone 18 to bench farm some more but another Shiny Female Alpha Lopunny appeared. Highly lucky maybe? I also took this one to Zone 1 for capture. Again it was Naive but also the IVs are exactly the same. I fly back to zone 18 and another Shiny Female Alpha Lopunny is there. There is absolutely no way I am this lucky. I haven't taken this one back to Zone 1 yet but I will not be surprised if it has the exact same IVs and Naive nature as the previous two.

Maybe there's something with dragging an Alpha to Zone 1 that makes the original respawn location think it hasn't been captured yet? Maybe there's also a distance factor and Alphas near Zone 1 can't be duped? Please test.

Jumbo has a separate cry and the size forms all have a set alpha size just the regular ones change around. Anyway you can just check the pokedex when you catch one and it'll be set to the most recent size you caught.

Since getting the charm yesterday morning at 4 AM, in the 4-ish hours of actual gameplay in the intervening 22 hours, I've found 5 shinies of various pokémon, vs the 11 found in the time between launch and yesterday morning. Anyone on the fence about going for it, grind it out.

Any tips for shiny hunting a Staryu? I've been doing the bench AFK method at the bench near Zone 2 for 4 hours now and literally only found a shiny Magikarp (that I'm pretty sure was there before I started benching). I kind of have a feeling im wasting time benching near zone 2.

Nine times out of ten the pokemon won't follow me to the edge, when they do they tend to run back home at the speed of fucking light, and then after following the guide to a T it decides "mmm no actually you didn't do it correct" and returns everything to normal.
