Hi everyone! this saturday, I went to a card show with my mentor and decided to get into the trading game. I literally know nothing about Pokemon or what it takes to be profitable, but I want to learn. here are a few things you should know:

I bought in with ~$1,300.
I purchased at 77%
I got ~45 cards
my mentor is extremely involved with this community: he is a vendor at some of the bigger shows in the area, and has grown his collection to $200,000+.
I will be able to sit at his tables with him at his card shows, selling and trading all my own stuff
I put all the cards into sleeves and protective covers
I dont really know much about the actual game or cards... I just love people and this community looks awesome. I am excited to meet people and collect cool cards, and hopefully make a little money on the side

I just need tips! what should I be looking for when I am trading/selling/buying? what should I be doing research on?

I wouldnt usually jump into the deep end with something like this, but my mentor is super eager to help me succeed. I figured having him as a connection takes away almost all the barriers that I would have if I was getting into this on my own

It slots into any deck and is a little menace. It gets to deny your opponent item usage for no energy cost. With how important setup is this can completely shut down and fuck up your opponent's flow. I can see a lot of players wanting to put this little monster into their decks as a flex so I'd be surprised if it isn't pumped.

Anything regarding structural integrity goes in the damaged pile.
Light, moderate, heavily played is basically describing surface, edge, and corner wear... With significant fraying, chirping or scratches also being damage.
Keep in mind "Near Mint" is typical of pack fresh which only grades a 7.

Side note I always see debates regarding eBay "scams" for refunds revolving around "not as described" there are a lot of sellers out there trying to extract as much value out of cards as possible, often times underestimating the poor condition of cards for more value, not realizing theyll have to full refund if they sell a damaged card as "moderately" or "heavily" played.
The buyer feels scammed for being duped into a lesser condition card, and the seller feels scammed for being out the money and card.
This is why damaged cards are essentially valueless and almost all sales shouldnt be counted.
The data for poor condition cards is heavily misrepresented
