hobbies thrive when investors drive hype and interest. the reason pokemon has become so popular and has remained popular is because investors believed in the product..

you profiting on the side isn't bad either. one piece will benefit from this too

So the next couple of years are going to be sets based on the garbage ass mega evos we get now?

What I've been saying for years. those kind of CGI cards are just pure puke.
>>
>>58727041
Yup, perfect time to catch up on older sets
>>
Bros I just opened a japanese Terastal Festival booster and got ZERO (0) art rares. Is this possible? I got two SARs - one was a trainer the other sandy shocks - and the an ACE item thing. An RR in every pack. Was I scammed? Box wasn't sealed but I heard they strip them in Japan when you buy bulk anyway.
>>
>>58727149
Terastal Festival has no art rares you dumbass. Two SARs is extremely good.
>>
>>58727158
Oh Jesus I assumed all the non-Eeveelution stuff were regular ARs. My bad. Feels like a brutal set to rip in that case cause most of these cards are just stinky 3D garbagio.

>>

>>
>>58727346
Why are you so angy? The market hasn't reset like it did post covid boom, I still see vintage hitting recent highs (1st ed zard base is a good indicator).
>>
>>58726337
oh my god please let all the sneakerfags and investorcucks move to one piece
>>
>>58727383
They already have for sealed, vintage/promos/BL are still climbing new levels. So prices won't really come down on high demand singles and older stuf.
>>
>>58727383
Sneakerfags, cryptojews, and investorcucks are mostly millennials trying to make additional income. They aren't going anywhere, sadly.
>>
>>58727412
Not what I'm saying, retard. I'm saying that sneakerheads, cryptojews, and investorcucks are typically in their 30s and 40s, and the same audience that liked Pokémon back in the day. They're the ones who moved on when Pokémon wasn't cool any more, and have come back in because they want to make money. Lots of them also justify being in the hobby because "I've been a fan since 1996". It's always specifically, 1996, because it's the top result on Google.

So long as Pokémon is profitable, these faggots aren't going anywhere. They aren't going to permanently move to One Piece since it never trended with millennials back in the day, even when 4kids dubbed it. It's much more of a GenZ thing. As soon as OP starts to cool off, they'll be back to Pokémon.
>>
>>58727200
Always, but im geniunely shocked that not even 2d can save certain mons
>>
>>58727429
And I say 1996 because these dipshits were such fairweather fans that they confuse 98-00 for 96 in some half-baked effort to prove how long they've been around for.
>>
>>58727451
Any grown adult collecting pokemon in 96-00 was severely autistic like gary king pokemon
>>
>>58727460
I'm talking people who were kids than and adults now, hence millennials. Not hyper autist adults who are now retirees in their 60s
>>
>>58708428
The set schedule has never changed interestingly enough its just that demand has skyrocketed to unprecedented levels. Personally the hobby will not be considered fixed until im able to just walk in a story anytime and grab an etb. Or if I can just go online without need a shitty discord ping just to buy some boxes. Ive lived through so many hypecycles and this is the only one that makes me feel grim about the future.
>>
>>58727467
Millenials are the most risk averse generation due to multiple financial crisis occurring in their lives - I can see people dumping pokemon in the oncoming years
>>
>>58727473
Based genuine fan. Anyone who complains about the release schedule either doesn't play the TCG, or hasn't been around for decades. The pace of releases has been pretty set in stone since the DPPt era, and even down to having a "Charizard" set, which I think started from XY.

>Personally the hobby will not be considered fixed until im able to just walk in a story anytime and grab an etb. Or if I can just go online without need a shitty discord ping just to buy some boxes. Ive lived through so many hypecycles and this is the only one that makes me feel grim about the future.
I think it's becaause it's so completely twisted now because of how much money people spend and want to make from the hobby. Even when PoGo brought some interest back in 2016, there still wasn't much/any money in the hobby because it was still 99% kids or legacy fans who never left the franchise. Even renewed interest during those hype cycles was purely for love and fun.

Whereas now it's every trendhopping fuck trying to make a quick dollar and the reason why they get back into the hobby is solely to make money. There is zero passion at the moment and the amount that people are hoarding is obscene
>>
>>58727482
Here's hoping, but at the same time, it makes me wonder how many people are just going to try and sweep up at inflated prices. Like it doesn't matter if people are cashing out when there are lots of other people waitingi in the wings who are still happy to pay $1000 because it came down from $1500. Even though it should only be $100 or whatever.

I don't know what it would take to genuinely bring things back to ground
>>
>>58727500
Most Millennials haven't even purchased a home yet - the time is ticking. Alternative assets are not worth it for most people after they dabble into it - fees, illiquid selling methods, random market bull and bear runs, etc.
>>
>>58727490
More so goes to show how awful society is doing economically. Gambling and making trying to make money flipping things en mass like this is a recession indicator. If you can have a chance at pulling an expensive card, people are going to chase that high. Ultimately, the bubble is going to burst because more and more people just won't be able to afford or pay for these prices anymore.

Well Pokemon currently isn't crashing through the floor because whales are keeping it afloat. Go on eBay and see how many grail vintage slabs are hitting new ATHs meanwhile sealed modern is sitting doing nothing because average income buyers are getting broke. Anything over $10k is continuously trending upwards nonstop. This is exactly what the Topps exec said was occurring in the sports card world.

What I hate about new pokemons (after pokemon ruby/sapphire) is that they often didn't even bother making them at least somewhat believable as a living organism.
Gen1-3 had their retarded pokemon as well, but nowadays it seems the retards who used to draw fakemons have all gotten a job at Gamefreak and only design the most retarded "cutiepatootie" "pokemon" they can.
These new designs are imho so rounded and "cute" just because they don't want to put any effort into having to replicate them into a 3D asset for the games.
>>
>>58727647
alright champ back to the retirement home
>>
>>58727647
This image gets used a lot but it has the worse examples of nupokemon they could've used. All of these are perfectly believable fictional animals. The nupokemon I hate are the ones that you can never see in a natural setting. Like tell me if you can ever see an incineroar or cinderace in the wild. No, because they're either in a soccer/football stadium or a wrestling ring.
>>
>>58727652
SONNY! DID I EVER TELL YOU THAT IN MY DAYS WE HAD TO PUT MAGIKARP IN THE FIRST SLOT AND IMMEDIATELY SWAP IT TO GET THE EXPERIENCE TO EVOLVE IT INTO A GYARADOS?!?!
>>58727669
>perfectly believable
yes, but I feel they should at least draw feets unless they are aracnids like pic rel.
>incineroar or cinderace
Valid point. I fucking hate anthromons. The ones like Incineroar are the worst as it's obvious it's just the fetish of some artist at Gamefreak.

this is the most important part of the picture
if gen one looked like this back in 1996 the game would have been dead on arrival
the fact the mons actually looked rugged with realistic proportion is what made Pokemon so cool for children
I know because I was one of them
>>
>>58727741
Pokemon forgot the "mon". Pocket Monsters, not Pocket UGUUKAWAII
>>
>>58727704
There's plenty of anthromons that look cool and still look like animals/monsters. Ones like Incin just completely overdo it that that I just can't see it as anything more than a human in a suit. Made even worse when you look at the pre-evos and theyre perfectly good looking catmons

I was able to find some older stock black leather dragon shield binders since they are now discontinued.
Compared to mine that I bought pre 2020 these ones are even better as they increased the spine gusset lenght, making the cards lay even flatter than before. They are also slightly longer.

Will front page, outer-facing, spine-adjacent cards in a zip-binder survive without getting damaged over time/through opening? Asking for a friend (they’re in booster box sleeves)
>>
>>58728538
Nothing survives over time. Embrace the transience of life. Enjoy your cards while you have them.
>>
>>58728538
is it a ring binder? If so there is a possibility as the rings can bend and ding your cards when going through them but it depends. If it's not a ring binder then they can still get somewhat bent unless the pages have enough room to properly lay flat like in dragon shield binders.
Realistically no binder can truly guarantee perfect protection from bending unless you go the schizo way of using toploader binders like pic rel.
For other kind of damages a doublesleeved card in any non top loading binder will be okay.
>>
>>58727071
Wouldn't be surprised if the general interest in the hobby takes a big hit if they go with this route. Or maybe I am just being a dumb boomer with different opinions.
>>
>>58728633
does this apply to vintage sets? I'm constantly wondering if I should just wait for the hype to die down to complete my sets or should I just buy what I can when I can.
>>
>>58728610
Thanks for the insight. It’s a protectX 4x4 so i don’t know if it will hold toploaders. It hasn’t bent the first cards yet, so it’s very possible i’m just being paranoid. The only thing that bugs me is that there’s a thick soft slab on the front cover, which keeps the cards in place but it might be putting pressure on my page 1 lads (who are my favorites since I wanted to frontload em)
>>
>>58728644
Not sure but I'll for sure shift rest of the modern focus I had on vintage. Cannot at least see myself buying the new sets if the big hits are going to be new megas.

Whatever is cheaper, considering Japanese, Chinese and some other asian languages such as Indonesian (but not Korean) have better textures, while for untextured cards it doesn't matter, unless you also care about grey borders vs yellow borders on older cards.
>>
>>58729117
For just the art jp singles is the qay to go. Good quality, cheaper and its the original language so it's a more valuable and easier to sell/trade if you ever decide to let it go

>I don’t even know why I got the Rocket’s Trap... I already have it in English, but it’s a really cool card. Any UK chads ever ordered from Pokemon Center Online from Japan? My understanding is that it's like ~25GBP for a booster on release which makes it easily the cheapest purchase even if postage is nuts.
>>
>>58735341
not sure what you mean by flat? its like the holo thats on reverse on e series but it doesnt cover the whole card only the background of the art normally
>>58735428
>which makes it easily the cheapest purchase even if postage is nuts.
you can only buy them via lotteries im pretty sure, im in the uk and buy stuff from japan regularly, i use a proxy service though postage is normally 20-40 quid on buyee which you can use for the pokemon center. i use the buyee air delivery delivery which uses fedex or dhl parcels normally arrive in under a week. if the total value is under like 120 quid you dont need to pay import fees anymore too

Damn that's disappointing.
>>

Nice. Who makes that zard figure?
>>
>>58735480
But they'll open a lottery when the new set releases I assume? I looked into Buyee and a few others and it seems straightforward enough. Is the 120quid value purely the value of goods? Because if so it seems like you could get a few boosters in for way cheaper than what they go for on ebay.
>>
>>58735665
yeah on the value of the goods not sure if theres a set number but its somewhere around 120 prior to brexit all of my japan parcels would get held up in customs for weeks and id have to wait for a bill in the post now they dont seem to care when its under a value around there
>>
>>58735665
>But they'll open a lottery when the new set releases I assume
oh and with the lottery im pretty sure you need a japanese phone number and register for it idk if thatd work for buyee, ive only used it for plushes

Anyone have strong opinions on Sleeves? Perfect Fit KMC feel the best to me but I find they slide around in binders too much. Ultra Pro penny sleeves ""fit"" the best with no movement in binders but they can snag the top and crease the sleeve which looks bad also the cards can move around in the sleeves more. Use case would be regular binders
>>

Even the hitmons are believable as real, living creatures. What made them work is that they had a resemblance to arthropods with their weird shell-like body features and not looking TOO human. I'd even argue Jynx worked since it looked like some weird blob monster with a fur coat that resembles clothing. Stuff like Cinderace and Incineroar look like individuals rather than a true species yk?

That's more an issue of the page/binder IMHO.
I double sleeve with KMC and basic Ultrapro sleeves and they "almost" never slide in my binders, and the ones I have single sleeved with KMC slide around even less.
At most I might find a card that is slightly out of its pocket by a few mm, but I never had a card fully fall out.

Chances are that you aren't getting booster boxes from there. Japan heavily preferences physical Pokémon Centers and individual stores have regular lotteries for booster boxes, whereas the website basically only does one on release, and maybe a second. Occasionally cards go up for sale, but it's relatively rare and typically only loose packs

And if you don't have access to a Japanese phone number, you also aren't entering the lottery.

>>58735710
It doesn't, you need to actually verify your phone number with an 070/080 number These proxies tend to offer you 050 VOIP numbers, which aren't allowed because Japan is pretty strict with phone numbers to prevent scamming in that you can't get typically a SIM card with voice/SMS unless you're a resident or have access to a resident.

It's not like here where you can rock up to Lidl and buy a SIM card for £10 and do whatever the fuck you want with it.

I saw a card listed as EX-NM with the comment "Strange card - printing error?" where the whole bottom half of the card was missing. Like brotherino that's faulty. You can't be asking full price for that card.
>>
Cardmarket bros why does the home page say an item is going for like ~£50 and then you click it and it says the price trend is ~£60 and then you look at listings and the lowest is ~£100? Are people actually listing the product that much lower and it just sells really quick or is there some strange maths at work here. I'm also using a plugin so maybe that's changing things.
>>
>>58738980
Many reasons, such as it being a lower price in a non-english language, if you want german cards you might get a deal!
>>
>>58738986
The mere thought of buying anything not in Japanese disgusts me
>>
>>58738995
Do you live out there? Probably easier to just buy it in shops
>>
>>58738998
I live in Bongistan which is torture because card stores give you like 50% value on Japanese cards and from what I've seen have barely any stock (MAYBE a binder of overpriced IRs, no vintage, a bunch of shitty RRs). I want to try a card show but they're all 1.5 hours out of London for no reason.
>>
>>58739045
Japanese cards are just too unpopular/common to keep in stock, which is why every whatnot streamer struggles to sell IRs/full arts even for £1 each, when they're that popular a card shop buying them in is basically losing money even at 50p an IR unless its a couple of the most popular ones which do go for a bit more. But even then they're slow to sell. Which is why they're often overpriced, if you do have to suffer stocking Japanese IRs/full arts you may as well price them at £2-3 because someone who likes that card in particular will pay it because it's only an extra £1-2 and I'm here now. Even with more expensive Japanese cards like SIRs they just sell too slowly. To be honest as well I think "Japanese quality" is often overhyped, it's true the SIR's/textured cards look and feel significantly better but when you compare regular IR's side by side they're pretty meh
>>
>>58739103
People act as if it's so laborious to "keep stock." You simply fill a fucking binder. No LCS ever sort their shit, accurately price their shit, know their trade, etc. You put the cards in the binder. You could buy bulk IRs off Cardmarket and put them in a binder neatly and perhaps in some kind of order and people would obviously buy them for £1-5 a pop - it's free money. But ANY vintage Japanese card is at least £10, and I never see those at shops.
>>
>>58739111
It's not "free money" because anything unsold is a liability and Japanese cards/vintage in general are extremely slow selling because basically no one buys it compared to modern. Even English vintage moves incredibly slowly let alone Japanese. I understand it fully because I try to keep my trade binder filled with interesting cards of all eras and being honest with you 99% of people that look in the binder admire the modern cards and barely take a second glance at Vintage/Japanese. The only time people seem to show an interest is if its a Pokemon they love "oh I collect digletts and I haven't seen this one before!", otherwise they'll likely comment more on the same Gardevoir 245 line they've seen 50 times before "I love how these connect!"
>>
>>58739045
Just go on a holiday to japan
>>
>>58738980
I don't even look at "price trends" anymore, it could be that it's calibrated on less desirable languages and poor condition cards.
Cardmarket orders by price anyway, so just pick the cheapest listing of your desired language and condition, possibly with pictures (don't hesitate to ask the seller, worst case they will not reply), check the seller's reviews and their other listings to see how they self-grade their other cards, and most importantly filter out UKfags with their surprise customs, and Scandinavians with their 25€ letters

>>
>>58739267
Vintage is cheap compared to modern, you can get NM copies of most hits from WOTC sets for £50 or less. Even the most famous card, base set Charizard, can be had for around £400 in Near Mint quality which hiliariously is cheaper than a lot of modern chases. Vintage pricing is largely driven by real world rarity which is why 1st Edition and "Shadowless" are insane compared to unlimited, because it directly correlates to the physical rarity of the card rather than vibes like Modern. The most expensive "Vintage" cards are really mid-era cards when the hobby wasn't as popular and when the pull rates were terrible while people still weren't indoctrinated into keeping cards in flawless condition, so again its related directly to real world scarcity. Occasionally the same "investor"/scalper/vendor/sneakerbros that inflate modern will set their eyes on certain older cards and inflate them too, looking at you Tagteams/Ancient Mew but generally you're paying for the real scarcity of what you want

It’s always telling when you look at the gem rates of modern vs vintage and modern cards will have >50% and vintage will be <2%

How quickly can humidity/dampness (in the air) affect sleeved, bindered cards (with otherwise stable conditions)?

The only reasonable place to put my cards at the moment is a cool, sunlight-free cabinet in my kitchen. I live in a place with a fairly stable humidity index but the cabinet isn’t airtight. I have a few silica gel packets sitting in there but I understand they’re pretty limited in effectiveness. Should I just buy a Dehumidifier for later in the year?

what would realistically happen is spam PSA with submissions to hoard 10's and sell them at the current market price.

Nah I have some of the original M EX cards and they were just as hit and miss as the new ones. This Froslass looks incredible, even more so in person and easily surpasses most of the originals in part because you're getting the combination of an SIR (full artwork, texture) with the attack text, the older ones that barely come out of the frame like our current EX's just leaves less room for good art, plus none of the texture you get now. I'm not saying the new ones are all strictly an upgrade, I still love some of the old M EX cards but saying they're worse is just feels wrong looking at them side by side

NTA, but remake the Gym Heroes/Challenge in its entirety, but every single card is a full art with the original artwork extended to fit the whole card.
The holo pattern should go back to cosmos with at least a swirl per card guaranteed, and the SIR be textured to japanese standards. Pull rates should be improved so no card will become a chase like that umbreon from prismatic.
The border of the cards should go back to yellow. a small pulltab activated speaker should be included in every booster that once opened immediately starts blasting "KANTOOOOOOOO" until the battery runs out

You're overthinking it. I've brought cards too and from my destination multiple times and they really don't care. If you're wondering what it was, it was a small 2x2 binder half filled with cards and some penny sleeves. I have only been stopped 1 time and they said "are those trading cards?" and if they could search through. Obviously I said yes then went along my way. Nothing crazy happened. Just be honest.

Now I guess you might be sus if you try bringing on multiple slabs, binders, etc. But again, just be honest and you'll be good.

now i want a promo brick crazy how none of those are 10s although the grader was probably seething at some guy sending 50 of the same card in lol. those creases are pretty bad looks like they were leaned on over rhte edge of a table or something lol
>>
>>58746252
Aside from new sets, price relates almost entirely to population/rarity. Japanese and English cards aren't printed in the same way - the same card/art might be a promo in one set, and pullable in another; the amount of promos available might be different; etc. I don't know for that card specifically, but this usually explains it. It's fun to find Japanese cards that are more expensive that their English counterparts.

Are binders safe? I want one but currently keep my cards in toploaders in a solid box. I ordered toploader binder inserts for an a4 ring binder and they dont fix too small so id have to get non toploader binder pages. need to be for a4 as theres a bunch of nice older binders with good art on and id go insane not being able to move the pages about and having to reorganize the whole thing

>>
>>58738750

>>
>>58746652
d ring is better than normal rings as long as your pages aren't top loading, and when you turn and move them you are careful.

Realistically the best binders/portfolios are sideloading ones with plently space from the space to the actual page itself to remove possible bending.
Since you're going to use pages for toploaders rings aren't going to be an issue unless you're going to manhandle your binders the way a retarded child will.

Trading Local Options

I'm from México & was wondering how much of a good investment could be to use a local grading service, I know PSA it's the ideal for grading collective goods, but mexican custom authorities are the lamest & I'm affraid to lost my investment once PSA sends back my graded cards.
>>
>>58748457
remember to draw penises on all cards you submit to PSA to ensure high grades
>>
>>58748457
nothing will come close to PSA other than Beckett black labels.
check your local Pokemon market to see the value of slabs from local grading companies.
Europe has a few that do decently in their own markets but are completely irrelevant internationally.
