>>
>>58708351
It's a scam to steal money from gullible cattle redditors. You don't even need to follow the story since the beginning, just read the latest news about PSA buying back a ton of their own slabs graded 9 just to regrade them as 10 and resell for 10x the price.

Buy them raw in jap or chink for the nicer texture, single sleeve them in pennys, and make a nice binder. Plastic slabs are for cucks.

Yes, the first hand scalpers (those that wait in line outside gamestop etc.) will begin to sell off their cards to recoup any money they can get, second hand scalpers (those that overpaid first hand scalpers for product to invest in) will commit suicide and their wives and children will sell off their cards.

I had a horrible experience at a card show today because I saw someone pull the SIR Zard from a Phantasmal Flames ETB. The worst part it I almost bought that ETB too but it was $90 and I thought it was better buying other singles instead.

Holy fuck all I could feel while watching the whole thing unfold was just pure, bitter, RAW envy and hate. Like nothing else I have ever felt in my entire life, it was so overwhelming I just quit the show right then and there and drove back home. Can't believe how badly I fucked up not getting that card.

Reminds me of the show I went to, guy had a table full of overpriced cards, literally no one bought from him.

I finally got around to sorting into binders some of my vintage series. I had like 600-700 bulk cards per set and the set I have the most cards of is Jungle, all other sets sit at around 20% completion. How the fuck is this possible? Were a couple of cards per series printed in the millions compared to the rest? I have like 40-50 copies of a single card per set.

You guys are sleeping over buying low grade psa or other graded cards for your binder needs. A near mint ungraded shining magicarp is around 500-600€, meanwhile I bought a psa 4 which looks way better than their """near mint""", cracked it open and put it in my binder.

>>
>>58711562

>>58711587
It depends, if it's a new card just released then it's piss easy... I've had cards wil literal whitening get back as a 10 in the past (my neo genesis feraligatr for example). After a while they start making them into psa 9 to keep the population down. Once you get a PSA9 they will ask to buy it from you instead of shipping it and then they will change it to a PSA 10 and sell it themselves. Absolutely nothing sus here. Grading has always been a scam and it deserves to die as a practice.

The current meta is to buy and hold sealed.

Get the Pokemon Center ETBs on release, these have some of the best ROI out of any product on the market at the moment. Then booster boxes. Booster boxes will always go up in value and are a safe invesetment, but aren't as rare as PC ETBs, so you won't see as much in terms of percentage ROI.

It's best to buy into sets with popular Pokemon like Charizard, Pikachu, Eeveelutions.

Next best thing is to buy raw/PSA9 chase cards, and regrade them for a PSA10.

Then HODL as you watch your portfolio increase. I only got into investing since 2022 and I've already made more than $90k in profit after investing around $30k. It's free money at this point. Anyone who doesn' tinvest doesn't really care about the hobby.

Someone sent 30 cards to PSA all returned as 9. The person sold some back to PSA and they miraculously become 10s. I don't care about grading nor do I pursue it, but think about the fact PSA is sticking itself into the tcg as the TOP grading company. They are ripping off people. Rumors were spreading about their shady business practices and now it's confirmed they are Mega Kike EX.
>>
>>58712989
Yeah I'm not buying the company excuses. Imagine if this person didn't have a decently large following and didn't make a fuss online. PSA prob would've just took the cards and hide it under the rug. They've been shady for the longest time but they'll still remain the most used grading company simply because "muhhh collection value". People don't want another company overtaking it in fear of their own collection tanking.

Anyone with a working frontal lobe knew grading was always a scam
>>
Could anyone here help me out?
I don't really collect anymore but I did when i was younger and have a bunch of my old cards still.
What's the best way to go about seeing if I have anything worthwhile, and if so the most hassle-free way of finding a buyer and selling them?
>>

The fact that a grader is offering to buy cards at all is a massive red flag. That's beyond a simple conflict of interest and straight into corruption territory.

Unless you actually play the TCG, I personally think this is a really weird dealbreaker for collecting english cards only. I personally collect cards for the art and I will only buy certain cards in JP for the nicer texture like SARs or Trainer cards for example. English cards are typically worth more but I don't think that's worth paying nearly 3x the price for cards that often has worst texture/print
>>
>>58713121
For new cards it’s true. I still love japanese cards but the wotc era ones are
more susceptible to bleed/less sturdy card stock.

Here are the holo ones. I have a ton of non-holo ones as well (pretty much from the same set ranges as these), too many to sprawl out and capture, but no idea if older commons have much value.
>>58713094
idk if I want to sell them for sure yet, I'm still nostalgic for them. For now I just want to see what I have and get an idea what people typically use for buying/selling. Then I have to see what the PC parts market is doing in the next couple months and decide whether I need money if I decide to build.
>>
>>58713177
Ah yeah they are way too damaged to be worth anything, with the exception of your holo charizard(s)? Even in damaged condition those zards are worth a few hundred each. The rest of your cards are unfortunately only worth like $5-$20 a pop, so I'd recommend not selling them as you wont get too much money for them but you will lose a ton of sentimentality and memories when you sell them. And its just not worth it, trust me. Dont make the same mistake I did.

You can just post that image somewhere advertising the Charizards but selling as a bundle and get a few hundred bucks. Which is nice to have if you don't care about your collection. The market is inflated rn you may as well cash out.
>>
>>58711784
you can still buy pokemon cards from the store even after the Logan Paul shit (what he did was inflate Vintage's prices), but scalping went full retard at modern ever since Surging Sparks or that Felt Hat pikachu shit.
>>
>>58713177
You should just sleeve them all up and put them in a nice folder for appreciating. Good memories there.

>>
Despite the fact that almost every single Pokemon product are hard to find or expensive as shit or both. Most EN waifu cards are relatively cheap since people outside of Japan are not autistic when it comes to female trainer cards.
>>
>>58714275
Its also because the english print and texture of the cards are terrible. It's not a problem for en pokemon cards because people know the pokemon so they'll always be more popular. But casuals hate pulling trainer cards, unless its someone popular so trainers need that extra quality from jp print to really stand out
>>
Any London white ass cracker ass honkeys ever been to one of the card shows? Is it worth it? I imagine travelling an hour just to be surrounded by sweaty freaks in a mall all wearing plushies and shit stinking of boiled ass isn't fun and all the stalls will be more expensive than simply buying off cardmarket so I don't really see the point - except for the joy of seeing the cards in person, I guess.
>>
>>58714313
They are worth it my opinion when trying to find a specific card you like. And you can negotiate for a lower price since sellers are more than happy to sell most cards below market price since most cards drop in value quick.
>>
>>58714275
The only reason EN trainers are cheap is because 90% of the current fake hype has the only objective of bragging on Reddit and YouTube about your collection, BUT if your collection is focused on a pokegirl the reddit army will flag you as a pedophile forever.
Japs on the other hand don't give a fuck, so they'll gladly display their ¥99999999 Lillie collection and comment on her tummy and armpits.

While I agree that cosmo holo is leagues better than modern holo which is just flat aluminum foil, textured SAR and equivalent cards add a great layer of depth to the artwork, IF the texture actually follows the artwork (hence the west vs east texture war).

what is a good set to keep sealed?
>>
>>58715008
Yes, keep the humidity in your binder/room in check because all holo cards from rares up to SAR warp like crazy if you leave them in the open.
I keep my cards in penny sleeves in the binder, in a drawer with a couple of silica packs. This is more than enough to keep them flat and dry.
>>
>>58713121
I get it from a consistency point of view, it's nice to have linguistic consistency for a set.

Bur when collectoniggers say thing like "I like to be able to read the text", it's like, nigga, you don't even play the TCG, Umbreon ex's attack (despite being dog shit) may as well be in fucking Egyptian hieroglyphics for all the relevance it has to you

On the other hand, if they "collect" English just because it has higher market value and long term appreciation, you can rightfully call them niggers.

I will say I respect actual sealed collectors (not investors) who follow a theme such as all ETBs or similar, to build a display like that, although I would only do it in parallel to collecting also the cards. It's weird to collect only the boxes and completely ignore what's inside.
>>
>>58715108
>>58715145
I get the consistency and I get the language autism too. But many times I would see someone claim they collect for the art and stuff but lament that a certain one is too expensive when its cheaper in a different language. If people want to collect/invest or only care for value, they should just admit it outright instead trying to sugarcoat
>>
>>58715158
You could build the same display out of opened ETBs. People who say that they collect sealed because of aesthetics are liars. They collect sealed because sealed is an investment.

I was eyeing the SI/SAR due to the cool full art on some of them. I just saw that the JP ones sometimes have the texturing that is consonant to the art of the card, that probably looks a lot better than just a flat holofoil. Does the texturing obscure the art?

It's been a year since the scalping and despite the fact that the Pokemon Company claimed that they have printed more cards in the past 5 years. I don't think so. Ever since Destined Rivals it's very hard to find packs at all for me. I have a feeling that the distributors and some retailers are intentionally "holding" products for themselves. I saw a toy store just selling the box, dice, and energy cards of an ETB without any packs. Not a sealed ETB, just the fucking parts of it. I'm curious if sets like Surging Sparks-Mega Evolution are going to crash hard in the next 5 years.

Pokemon are printing more cards than ever. And like you said, distributors, not Pokémon are holding back. And don't forget all the people sitting on hundreds of boxes at a time.

They are only printing 5-10x more cards than they were 15+ years ago. How many more packs do you think people are buying now compared to 2000? Kids back then bought a pack a week if they were allowed.

Nowadays, people like this are the norm, and that's what, 450 packs from ETBs alone? Guy probably has a bunch of booster boxes, bundles, etc. as well. The average consumption has gone up by >100x. Buying a case of booster boxes now is the same as buying a few packs back then. So even if they are printing more than ever, there is less availability because people are consuming more than ever

Or this
>>
>>58720977
When someone can buy dozens, if not hundreds of ETBs at a time, ETBs that realistically are expected to be one per person, you have a huge demand > supply issue.

Pokémon was more accessible in the past, so printing 1-2 billion cards per year was viable because nobody was buying thousands of dollars of cards, from every single product release. You had kids buying a pack with their allowance and maybe getting something as a gift. The average kid during Pokémania probably didn't open more than a few dozen packs per set if we're being honest

Now, they're printing ~10-12 billion, which is at record levels, but it doesn't mean anything when people are buying at a rate where they'd need to print 100 billion cards per year to maybe scratch the itch.
>>
>>58720971
They need to limit purchases to a single booster box or EBT etc per person, per month. Require ID for the purchase to keep track of them.

And this is a really good example, tbf. How many kids were getting booster boxes as gifts back in 98, 99, 00? Not many, if any at all. It's not uncommon now for millennials to make bigger purchases for the next generation than they got to make up for what they feel as missing out over their childhood.

You are also a good uncle trying to do this for your niece. RESTECP.
>>
>>58721234
A booster box on Christmas wasn't that uncommon if your main interest was pokemons, but usually kids asked for video games or other stuff etc. Back in the day parents used to buy booster boxes and give kids a single booster every once in a while as a reward for good grades etc.

>>
>>58721295
Maybe if you were from a rich or well-off family. Boomers simply did not spend as much money on their kids as millennials do now. That and Pokémon was widely seen as a passing fad by most boomers, as the 90s was a train of monoculture fads rather than consistent established franchises like we have now.

I'm saying this as someone that got a $10 week allowance and could buy multiple packs per week or even save up to buy singles from hobby stores. Booster boxes were around $100-120 from what I rememmber and I knew very few people IRL or on forums like pokebeach, serebii, pokemasters, pokemon abode, and bulbagarden's forums and all their associated IRC channels, who ever talked about getting anything as expensive as that for a gift.

Like, I was heavily involved in the online community.

Happens all the time. Especially when people get 8s.

Is ZA even recognized by the TCG as an "era"? What era are we in right now?
>>
>>58723274
"Mega" is our current block. Perfect Order just got announced for March as well, which is a Mega Zygarde set
>>
>>58723283
Fairly new - where's the best place to learn about those announcements (and are there leaks, rumours, etc?). Yet another criticism of these awful threads is that this has never been mentioned nor discussed afaik. Some guy posts three houndooms and a persian wearing cock goggles and then the rest is noise.

Pokebeach is the best place for TCG news

It's funny how I used to remember them being a second tier website site back in the 00s, but they've found their niche as the main TCG website and are doing better than ever because of it

where do you guys find cards priced fairly?
on ebay every card even in shit conditions is super expensive
on cardmarket most sellers dont put the photo of the card ,
also italians label anything 2 classifications above the real thing ( card completely folded= good"

Thanks for the comparison, I still prefer the old swirl holo patterns but at least I'm conviced about japanese supremacy in regards of textured holos.

>on cardmarket most sellers dont put the photo of the card
It's a pain in the ass but I usually ask them for photos before placing an order. Or I just ask them if their grading is in line with Cardmarket rules (they never are). My best trick is to search GD and LP cards as every once in a while you'll find someone who both posted a picture and did grade them correctly.
>also italians label anything 2 classifications above the real thing
Make it 3 or 4 grades above the real thing. Here the concept of something used or in poor condition being fairly priced is completely foreign as we have hordes or manchildren who think that X card must be valuable cause it's old. Even outside of Pokemon cards you'll see people asking 2x the current prices for broken/heavily used consoles etc.

>>58723975
thanks,i will try to ask for some pictures. do they really expect people too blind buy?
>>58723975
i wasnt hallucinating then.

this guy had some cool cards but it seems sketchy as fuck. they are probably all destroyed

>still asks more than others
lel. Yeah, avoid buying from people with 0 sales without at least asking for pictures first and ensuring how they will ship them.
>do they really expect people too blind buy?
Usually common cards are less risky to buy blind and some people have tens of thousands of cards for sale, so a picture for every card becomes impossible unless you do that >>58722783
People who write "DM for pics" are just fucking lazy, you're not trying to sell an house where saying the price on the phone can be risky, it's a fucking pokemon card.

>is waifushit a good investment
not really, the cards hold their value for the most part but they don't have explosive growth like zardshit.
>>
>>58720812
it's entirely dependent on the popularity of the waifu. so far only Nanjamo was a hit. meanwhile you can easily find Geeta and Nemona for cheap.
>>
>>58719645
>>58719504
they're moving on scalping One Piece cards instead.

It's Christmas, some people are panic selling so that they can pay for presents because they aren't financially literate enough to have savings and investments elsewhere besides Pokémon cards.

I imagine they'll be back with a vengrance come new year. Until we start seeing products regularly on shelves for RRP, we're still in this era of investor led dogshit.

Mega Evolutions is the "ZA set"
>>58720812
Most female trainer cards are pretty cheap with some exceptions. JP trainer cards are more expensive since Japan are autistic when it comes to their waifus. But only some of them are expensive like Lillie, Iono, Dendra (for some reason) and etc. Don't expect them to be retardedly expensive in the future like a Charizard card.
>>
>>58720812
if you want to invest just buy vintage low pop psa 10 reverses/holos. dont waste money on modern.
>>
>>58708428
it didn't feel that bad when you could find cards. I used to open a decent amount of packs upon set release. 1 Booster Box, 2 triple blisters, 2 single blisters. Then I'd just pick up the affordable singles that I was missing. That was enough for me to get a feel for the set and get ready for the next set. But now it's like
> New set comes out
> Can't find anything online or instores
> Maybe get lucky online or instores and get scalpers sloppy seconds (a couple of single blisters, maybe a collection box or two)
> ...
> New set comes out, rinse and repeat
>>
What packs do I buy as someone that is collecting again and haven't since like the early 00s. I just want to keep something over time I can look back at. My old cards are not in great shape
>>
>>58720812
>is waifushit a good investment
Insane sentence newfag, you're quickly going to learn that investing into waifushit is pointless and you're better off just collecting the waifu that you personally care about. If they go up, nice if but they dont or tank, then you won't be fucked either way. Ever since the waifu collapse some years ago they've never recovered and I dont think they ever will

Why does TPC hate ZA?
>>
>>58716298
Hi there fellow card lore bro. Just chillin' here until another lore thread or general drops. Might as well make yourself at home and talk about it here. It would break up the monotony of Houndoom and prices.

Because theyre popular and they sell, not much you can do about. They have to shill popular things, I cannot begin to tell you how many people ive seen breaking their ass for the zard card or salivating or the gengar card in dream lmao. Zygarde will at leasr be featured in the next set and casuals dont give a fuck and are disappointed that it wasn't the assumed mega ray set so at least you'll likely be able to get those products easier and cheaper
>>
>>58725759
Sets are so bloated now it’s impossible to pull what you want. Just buy singles

Normies really like Prismatic Evolutions, Destined Rivals, and Mega Evolutions. Problem with those sets are that they are snatched up really fast and scalped to the high heavens. We're talking bots used online to take all the product in a snap of a finger and people sitting outside stores hours before they even open to get these sets. So to save yourself the headache, I'd just go and purchase whatever you can find at MSRP in stores. And for online, I'd follow a twitter account that tells you when stuff drops. I recommend stuff like pic rel. It should be slightly easier to find and has a variety of packs. If you don't really want any surprises, you can look at what cards come in each set online. I use poke llector . com (No spaces) to see whats in a set and check off what I have.

Let's just say I spend over $300 to get my Serena card back when Incandescent Arcana was a relatively new set. I'll leave it at that if you think waifu cards are a good investment.
>>
Any card bought within 3 months of release is a bad call
>>
>>58722098
Genwun millennials are still THE biggest group of fans, who spend the most money. Who are TPCI going to pander to? GenZs who nobody gives a fuck about, or millennials who make basedfaces over Charizard, Pikachu, Genger, and the rest of KANTOOOOOOOOOOOOOO while spending $2000 per month on sealed and graded?
