Tears Of Princes Edition>I want to learn the game, where do I begin?Download PTCGL at https://tcg.pokemon.com/en-us/tcglThe game has a quick tutorial and a bunch of decent decks to get you started against other beginners or against the AI. Some of those decks are very close to meta too. You can also go to your local game store and see if people are playing Pokémon.>I know how to play, how do I make my own deck? You have a decent beginner's guide at https://www.justinbasil.com/guideThere's also the old /tcg/ guide at https://imgur.com/a/W4NkOu6After that, look up meta decks and try to reverse engineer them to see how things work.>Where to find meta decks? For big irl events, go to https://limitlesstcg.com/decksFor online events, go to https://play.limitlesstcg.com/decks?game=PTCGFor japanese events, go to https://pokecabook.com/archives/1417Previous thread: >>58684186Old /tcg/ pastebin: https://pastebin.com/Ge95YuMA
Gardevoir is hard but it's the only deck I enjoy, will they reprint her?
>thread barely survives with a non card OP>let's do it againtruly fucking retarded...
Who else here tried to go into OPTCG (horrible fucking timing with scalpers moving there too) and just the interactions hella frustrating to deal with
Still obsessively tweaking this deck. Trying out Wally to see if I like it while preparing for life after Turo rotates and also trying out 3 Solrock since I feel like I've started Lunatone way too often and mulliganed more than I would like in a few of the tournament rounds. I also got Gravity Mountain recently and that would make it easier to knock out Dragapult EX and Charizard EX (and X)
>>58736350no sorry you're going to actually have to learn how to play the game instead of aping with the autowin deck of the cycle
>>58736736But I don't play Zard or Dengo
>>58736363Have you ever thought to check before being a dipshit?
>>58736363>ZA DLC datamines and release happened>It survived
>>58736530Iron bundle, iono, arven, artisan also go btw
>>58736965I will miss Iron Bundle, but every other card that's being rotated from my deck is stuff that pretty much every one else uses too so it's kind of even. They have reprinted Judge though which can work as a stopgap for Iono, Petrel can do the same for Arven sort of as well. Counter Cancer can fuck off though and I hope they never reprint that again.
>>58737022Counter catcher should've been 2 prize difference. 1 prize is too abusable when you can just throw a babymon who item locks for them to kill, or kill your own dusclops if your opponent wont react. >Want to play around budew item lock>Alright ill kill it>Actually unfair stamps + counter catches you + supporter for turn before you get to play items againIt was never used for comebacks the intended way
>>58736965no way in HECK is super rod going away
>>58737107Super Rod and Exp Share is practically a guaranteed reprint. I think there's a good chance they'll reprint Superior Energy Retrieval as well to try and give the mega Charizards a fighting chance since they have to discard a bunch of energy as well.
What's the point of having rotation blocks if they're just gonna reprint 90% of SV anyway?
>>58737107They're pretty evergreen yeah but so far haven't been updated to tick them off. The first proper J regulation set will bring a lot of common evergreen reprints / new staples like pokepad>>58737114>Superior Energy RetrievalThis only appeared in plasma era of BW, until the reprint recently. It's not a common card to get reprinted, it seemed intentional for chien pao/bax to mirror the old blastoise raindance BW era using it. Zard has energy recycler and fire breather which guarantee you enough energy to ohko anything, so I find it doubtful superior energy retrieval will get reprinted.
>>58737145Meta is usually pokemon causing it, look like gardy. All it's trainers are just generic staples in every other deck. It's the pokemon causing it to dominate. Rotation gets to remove those pokemon for something else to take over. Sometimes its nice to have trainers/items rotate like it was gonna be fun with minimal gust until they reprinted boss.. but the main thing is to purge all the old op pokemon that have gathered 3 years worth of support around them
>>58736965>tons of annoying cards goneGood. Hopefully the meta is way better once rotation hits.
>>58737157Yes, Charizard can spend 4 energy to knock out a big, bad pokemon like a Dragapult (which will probably be 50% of the post rotation meta) but what happens after that? Unless you have a million energy in your deck you'd need to get it back somehow. It wouldn't make much sense now that they're in the habit of printing decent Charizard cards to just leave two mega Charizards hanging like that. There's also yet another Inferno Fandango Emboar which might mean they could make similar decks that don't revolve around the megas, though I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Charizard could use Powerglass though...
>>58737231>>Zard has energy recycler and fire breather
>tfw I don't care about rotation, because after Seattle I can finally stop playing this game
>every single one of my standard decks
>>58737256But if you had both S. Energy Retrieval and Energy Recycler/Fire Breather what would you pick? The answer is pretty obvious, that's why I think it'll be reprinted.
>>58737022noh noh you don't understandcounter catcher is a "punish" cardyou know "punishing" uhh...knocking out pokemon and taking prizes? isn't that the point of the game?
>>58737348You're not understanding the point of rotation and reprints anon. Obviously SER is better but the fact zard released with fire breather heavily implies they're intending this going forward. Otherwise it would've reprinted SER in the zard set tooRotation as a whole is meant to reduce the power level of everything, otherwise whats the point if they reprint all the same support for dragapult/chairzard/kanga/terapagos/any other surviving standard pokemon
meanwhile boss' orders and N get reprinted every 17 seconds because people would apparently break down into hysterics and stop buying packs (that's the bad part) if they had to play without them at any point
>>58737472Most tcg people were happy boss was planned to rotate tho?Tcg players dont buy packs as is, it's all collector fags and they sell off the "junk" regular cards for cents because they're not full art CHARIZARDO
>>58737493that's why i said apparently
>>58737107An ash/recycler format might be interesting to change up people's playstyles. But most decks can still just play night stretcher if they need any recovery.
>>58737231They'll probably reprint fisherman. It's been two years since they printed Lana so there won't be too much overlap.Or they could try to force Klara on us again.
New to this and not really liking it too much. The game feels like it plays like Yugioh with how your opponent plays 10+ cards a turn. A lot of the game seems like it comes down to what you draw and that's why most decks have you going through your whole deck constantly drawing cards. Is Magic any better than this?
>>58737826>But most decks can still just play night stretcher if they need any recovery. That's why I think it'll remain a ash/recycler/(and probably super rod reprint) format. Night stretcher is already too strong for getting discard to hand, and a lot of the new cards want energy in the deck instead of discard >>58737839Lana is still in format so there's little reason to reprint fisherman anytime soon. Max rod exists too. We have a lot of item cycle into deck support as mentioned above too
>>58737881The game just isn't in a very good state right now. Most matches are decided at setup and if you hated statchecks in yugioh you'll hate them even more here.MtG has more player interaction but it's got its own share of problems currently.
>>58737881Magic is more about gathering resources to do stuff. You don't blitz your deck like yugioh/pokemon but you still combo chain stuff with said resources so it snowballs. There's not much tutoring so if you don't draw what you need early you can just get ran over as its too late for you to set up. Like yugioh there's interaction during your opponents turn while pokemon is afk until they're doneIt's also like hearthstone in a sense where there's a lot of token summons, your card now spawned a 1/1 token which you have to put into play from a separate token pile on the side which can be annoying irl since it's not automatic like hearthstone. There's no tokens in pokemon, it's purely your deck only and not many in yugioh
>>58737881The only real advantage Magic has over any other card game is that it's the perfect game to play if you absolutely hate shuffling.
I finally realized why this carbink exists. It can ohko mega lucario in the mirror if the deck is popular at all post-rotation.
>>58739649You need it on field while attacking with lucairos 1st attack the turn prior, making it incredibly obvious what you're planning. That's why energy acceleration attacks are never really meta, if gives your opponent the first action on who you accelerated to
>>58736747BTFO
>>58739676>That's why energy acceleration attacks are never really metaMaybe if you ignore the very long list of decks that has TM: Turbo Energize, including the 2024 Worlds win. Energy acceleration is always good. Though I'm not sure that Carbink is going to be good, could be a funny meme though if fighting decks see a resurgence after Gardevoir rotates.
>>58740056All the decks before crispin... yeah.. especially the winning deck which just had 4 of the same pokemon.. totally the norm alright The game has been too unfair to rely on energy acceleration abilities like that for a while. When everyone else can cheat out and dump 5+ energy in a turn through abilities/trainers/items why are you spending your turn putting 1-2 into place as an effect of your attack for turn
>>58740578And yes even joltik box was a meme. The fact that a 1 prizer putting 4 energy into play isn't competitive just shows you how meaningless energy acceleration attacks are. Half the time you just got your iron hands boss'd making you joltik again
>>58740578Scroll through the Limitless on the card and I think you'll find that better players than you would disagree. Las Vegas and Brisbane regionals win just last month too by the way.
Im going to a cup again next week but ill probably place poorly againgoing with the kazam
>>58740699I dunno why you're defending it so much when it's not even the same point>It was about acceleration attacks like lucario>OK BUT THIS TM IS USED-Yeah the whole reason I bring dreepy in my deck is to TM evo my other dreepys too makes sense right
>>58741066TMs give you attacks if you didn't know
at 1830 elo and games are taking too long to find time to wait until the ladder resets
Why are my pokemon cards on live appearing in my hand with some overlay on top of them, like the night stretcher or poffin on top of them?
>>58741731Sometimes the visual glare bugs onto other cards. They recently changed the full art visuals so i guess that caught it to reappear as a bug
Are they having the international championship now? Or it was recent? They fucking disqualified someone for baloney in the top cut fucking again?????
What's the best Gardevoir/Jellicent list right now? There are so many variations
>>58741821imo its the ones that use the balloon and jelly. diancie feels kinda bad against zard but I could be wrong since it did win a tournament recently.
>>58741914I watched that and it was a shitshow
Besides pokepad is there anything meta changing in our next set? Or am I good to update my decks now
>>58742099The rotation is in april. The new set is just new stuff, it probably won't change anything big.
>>58742187I'll go ahead and update stuff now, I still haven't since journey together so i don't even have lillie in them. Doing the mega pokemon daily i've just been using the default deck since I've not updated/made anything in ages
>>58742689Delta species, my beloveddo you think they will evee come back or do we have suffer through mpre slop like megas?
>>58742841that was teras bro
>>58742841Evolutions as basics is pointlessThere's plenty of pokemon that don't evolve already
which one?
>>58743494prismatic
>>58743494temporal with the other two paradogs
>>58743523>>58743497The duality of giraffe-dog
>>58743494TEF
What does a pokemon TCG match represent?Like in magic it's a duel between planeswalkers. The most obvious answer is that it's a pokemon battle. But then a lot of things don't make sense. Why do pokemon evolve in the middle of battle? Why are you using dozens of items at the same time? Why do you have a bunch of supporters assisting you constantly throughout the battle? No, it seems the match is meant to represent a pokemon journey, and the opponent is your rival. In this journey you catch pokemon, evolve them, and meet people (supporters) who help you, but only one per anime episode.
>>58743494I preferred this one in live. Not a fan of the SIR where the mon/trainer is only a small tiny portion of it
>>58743607Pokemon anime has evolutions mid battle. but yeah not so much about items/trainers.It not being a duel between planeswalkers/summoners/adventurers etc is probably a good thing because it allows them to print concepts more freely like supporters. Otherwise you're shoehorned into a design space
>most of the cool ancient pokemon rotate out>most of the lame teras stay inthe world isn't fair
>>58744627>Half the ancient/future pokemon stay>Doesn't matter because all their support rotatesIt's sad they didn't properly invest in ancient/future and even tera as much as they did with single/rapid/fusion strike. It was literally the gimmick of gen9 and they got less sets than shitty trainersmons
>>58739275>fetchlands
BEAST
Why is this game so glitchy? I've had 4 games in the past 3 days that I've lost due to some random glitch happening like my Pokemon doing no damage or the screen being stuck on an opponents card.
>>58745433no damage sounds like the opponent had an ability or something preventing you damaging. never heard of bugs like that cards being stuck on screen is fairly common tho, sometimes they're blank, sometimes they turn pink lol. yeah the devs in this game are kinda bad. it's a lot better recently at least
>>58745433>my Pokemon doing no damageread their cards
>>58745433I lost a lot of games to tm evo selection glitching out and evoing 0poffin/nestball not letting me select a basic it should or just having a card stuck and timing out the turnits not even funny anymore
>>58736328I have 50 bucks every pack is 7~ (except mega Dragonite) what should I get ? Or should I just not get anything since they are Chinese..
>>58746967Fuck forgot the pic
>>58746967>>58746971>seven Dollarydoos for a boosterNah M8Also you want this thread if you're buying Chinese packs >>58726317
>>58746515A good temp solution against Dragapult before they print that stadium that makes tera pokemon's attacks cost 1 more energy
It's the>fuck you, you can't play todayday
>>58745504>>58745941There were no cards with abilities out or any items, tools, stadiums, whatever to prevent damage. The attack and damage animation went through but there were no damage counters. My next Pokemon was able to deal damage and the only difference on the board for both sides was me using a different Pokemon.
>>58746069>>58747478Had Munkidori give bench damage even though battle cage was in play. Not sure if this was a glitch or the card isn't programmed properly since its still new.
>>58747843I'm fairly sure a similar discussion occurred before with that munkidori in regards to healing. Don't remember the result, but you can at least find solace in that many people complain about that card, its wording, and how it's supposed to function.
So, how long does it usually take for new pokemon to get cards? I'm asking because we're about two months in since the release of ZA and it seem like they are getting their cards but slowly.
>>58749112this particular set was ahead of it's time, we got megas before ZA released when before it used to coincide or be later
>Have casual tournament on Friday>Currently have Mega Lucario ex and N's Zoroark ex decks>See this list>Try it> It's shitHow tf do people make these weird ass decks work? There is zero synergy between the cards here.
>>58750257>How tf do people make these weird ass decks work? They usually cheat.
>>58750294How do you cheat with that and in Live?
>>58750298in Live you don't in live events there's so many ways it's the most important skill to have
>>58749973Gee Exploud... How come your mom lets you have 4 attacks?
>>58750257With Zoroark in these decks normally it's just there for a draw engine and to beat any GardevoirsFor this you could use it to trade away energies for Aura Jab
I have been playing for months without understanding the nuance between going first and going second and how certain decks can easily be shaped into favoring going first vs going second strategies.
Prize pack series 8 revealed. What are we chasing bros?
>>58751316>forest but no meganiumgrassbros...
>>58751316>No Hilda>No Dawn>No secret box>Half the list is team rocket's bulkslopYeah, I will be playing less once this shit drops. They could have the decency of recycling a few eeveelutions but nah.
>>58751316I do think Petrel will be good once Arven rotates, couldn't hurt to have a few of them in the collection just in case. And you can never have enough Lillies
>>58752043What's petrel fetching over other supporters tho? We have colress/dawn/brock/hilda, and other cope options like drayton and hassel. The only things you can't reliable fetch are items(not pokemon search related) and tools. Counter catchers gone, vessel too. Only rare candy is a worthwhile pick off it if you don't have 2 turns from dawn. Tools I'm pretty sure wont be included in lists anymore, or if they are is just because they run secret box to also grab it. You're never petrel-ing for a mochi
>>58752118I think finding trainers is a valuable enough effect to add consistency, that's why people play Arven. Some tools like Air Balloon is I think too good not to be included in a lot of decks (Though you could Petrel for a Switch too I guess), ace specs like Secret Box is also nice to have on demand and with Petrel you can have that even after Arven rotates. Maybe it'll just be a temporary stopgap card like Judge before they print the next hand disruption supporter, maybe Petrel will find a home in most decks to add some consistency or maybe I'm wrong and every deck will have 50 Noctowls in them post-rotation to help find the trainers.
