I've been using Assault Vest Flareon for years and it works fine, pretty good in my opinion. It's only bad if you only play OU+ garbage where every pokemon is minmaxed and most have broken gimmicks. It's gotten worse overtime with how bad powercreep is, but it's still decent. At this point I just run mixed attacker with a -def nature. Just accept that any matchup vs a physical attacker you will lose. But vs almost any special attacker Flareon is quite good.
You guys pretend that Flareon doesn't have 110 Special to use flamethrower/fire blast. Use the body slam TM on it and it does good work. Modern players expect too much and want their pokemon to start strong.
