I wish I had someone who was both uninvested in my story but still willing to talk about it so I could bounce plot important mechanics without trial-by-firing it with my readers. I more meant the “organically given to them” part as you said. BoC’s Ninetales being extra OP because it was picked by Giratina is kinda lame considering how OP Lee is anyways. It’s like giving a terrorist a nuke. As far as Legendary Blessings go, I really like traces of the Legendary that blessed the Pokémon in particular to show back up. For example, a Ho-Oh blesses an Arcanine and that Arcanine can use Sacred Fire, or Lugia blessing a Dragonite and it can use Aeroblast etc.

As for the earlier part of your post, I started running into the same issue. I’d try to be vague asking for feedback/ a consult in here on things I was working on but I got sniffed out pretty quickly the moment I had to clarify specifics. Now I just trust my outline and do my best to make it not suck, which is effective more than half the time I guess. If you’re IMOanon, feel free to DM me on QQ. IMO (in my opinion, not IMOanon) any idea being good or bad depends entirely on execution. Some horrendous sounding ideas become iconic (rubber pirate who can't swim, plumber who jumps on turtles) while plenty of good ideas end up boring and forgotten because they either play it generic and safe or they can't stick the landing and fumble something important. I'd worry less about if an idea is good or not and more about how you can deliver an idea you want to do properly.

not sure why I thought that part was good the way it was before, my guess is either:
in one of the many earlier drafts, that part made what the machine did more obvious
or I thought the throwback to the Chansey from the report made it make more sense than it did, plus I already knew what it did, so it just clicked with me when re-reading. but you're completely right about that.
also changed the repeating structure for as much of the dialogue as I could, without changing it in every single spot when I thought it was still ok/thought it lost something, because some how I didn't notice that either.
I guess I focused too hard on not just saying "he said" "she said" too much and adding more to it and didn't realize how much the structure repeated.
and as for the flashbacks, I agree with you, but don't really know what to do about it because I think those scenes are pretty important.

he's not incompetent, but he's a nervous wreck most of the time. then when the moment actually calls for it, he narrows down and executes. but he always returns to being full of doubt and running on nerves. a lot of that is Kano's influence. he taught him to function inside fear and drilled "do the next right thing" into him instead of trying to comfort it away. I'm planning to show more of the cost/limitations of that later on, especially when it's not an adrenaline situation where locking in solves it.

Meanwhile if you're a NPC or side-character or rival now you're the underdog, you're taking a world where someone who was not meant to the be MC is now the MC. Now you're fighting against fate. Now you can pretend you're doing this all yourself and that fate is against you and you're beating anyway. So as far as specific fics, there was a Johto Isekai fic (something with “Crystal” in the name) that was so egregiously insufferable with the choices it made from the get go I really got inspired to give the finger to low effort, unearned Isekai fics with PoPT. The starter was a Totodile that had Sheer Force, Crunch and Dragon Dance as egg moves. The Isekai’d MC then started humming “Sinnoh Sound” (the radio channel that enabled Sinnoh Pokémon to appear in HGSS) and a Riolu popped up on the first route and began teaching the MC aura. I skipped ahead to the gym fight and of course Riolu swept Falkner.

I specifically read this fic because I was starting to really get into setting foundation for PoPT. I’d read BoC, PTV (which I hate even though it’s not trying to be more than shameless power fantasy/ wish fulfillment) and When is a Spoon a Sword (couldn’t do TNN or Hard Enough), but I wanted to see what not-good writers did too. There were elements of BoC and Spoon that bothered me, but the writing was good enough to cover those gripes up. I made certain decisions in PoPT that basically “fixed” the gripes, but the inspiration for making Suzy-Marie truly egregious was that Isekai fic I mentioned. That turned my want of just wanting do my nitpicks of popular Isekai fic tropes to really flipping the bird to the low effort ones.

It’s kinda funny to me that a number of commenters wanted certain things to happen early on (aura, Ian gets Zygarde, nutrition) and PoPT basically looked at the audience and said “not today.” Is it still an Isekaislop power fantasy at its core? Yes. But that shitty johto Isekai fic really lit a fire under my ass to really do something a bit different.
