>>58886913Elysium. I need to grind because the witch tower is kicking my ass. This game is does a good job of balancing things to be a bigger challenge without without using cheap tricks like level caps.
>i'm too poor to buy an ad edition
>>58886913idk yet but it's not the one in the OP
>>58886921are you a retard? the OP has literally always been an ad for whatever's new.
>>58886913Trying the Light Platinum demo after playing so many Gen 3 hacks really makes you appreciate the power of the DS.Music sounds nicer, cutscenes, the visuals are nicer obviously, it's so comfy that I don't care it's all in Spanish.

>>58885370By "QoL", do they mean spamming rare candies up to the level cap of each boss, and then trying to avoid as many other battles as possible?
>>58886920is that the hack that is split in 2 halves? any reason why they have it that way?
>>58887521Yeah, it's 2 roms that I'm supposed to swap out like I'm changing dicks in FF7. Honestly, IDK why. My best guess is maybe the map is too big or there are a fuck ton of events. Either way, I'll find out whenever I get there.
>>58887521>any reason why they have it that way?The developer didn't know how to increase the number of tilesets and sprites in the ROM and ran out of them.
>>58886913Been playing Unbound for the first time. Im liking it but its too soon to either agree it being one of the best ROMS or not as many anons say.
>>58886913Reforged gold 97. I thought beta gold be some sort of weird novelty but it’s really good. I’m in the post game cleaning all the side quests before taking on blue.

Here's my Gold 97 Reforged team. I'm at the peak of Mt Fuji. What do you think?
>>58886899>2 incomplete demosWhy waste time making two versions instead of just focusing on one and finishing the game?

is there a gen 2 decomp that isn't in fucking assembly?I'd love something like a crystal decomp in C
>>58888951No, because the Game Boy can't run C.
>>58888973does this mean people barely do Gen 2 decomps because assembly sucks?
>>58889003No
Is there any news about Quarantine? Did they said anything about how close they are to finishing it?
>>58889008no they DO do assembly? how big is the gen 2 scene/ecosystem
>>58886899What's the best DS emulator for replicating how the original console graphics look?On MelonDS it seems like System is the best but it still doesn't have the LCD lines which I think would look nice, not sure how to enable those or if I can.
>>58889165For a little while now I've been using the lcd1x filter on Drastic and appreciate the more faithful aesthetic.
>>58889120The gen 2 scene is pretty healthy, there's lots of stuff coming out based on Crystal these days.
Is there a way to remove the tweening sprites in BW2? I'm kinda curious how much that would reduce file size
>>58889872It wouldn't reduce the file size at all.
>>58889920Why wouldn't? I don't mean turning them off, i mean straight up deleting all the related animation code
>>58889933I thought you were mistaken and believed the tweened sprites were their own graphics.
>>58889872>Is there a way to remove the tweening sprites in BW2?Yes. Is there a patch or program that does it for you automatically? Probably not.> I'm kinda curious how much that would reduce file sizeJust extract the sprites from both BW2 and BW1 and compare their filesizes.
>>58889948>Just extract the sprites from both BW2 and BW1 and compare their filesizes.I don't think there would be much difference between BW1 and 2 besides some edge case like Cottonee
>>58889953BW1 had the animations too? In that case I guess you'd compare the sprites to HGSS or something.
>>58889958Pretty much yeah, BW reuses gen 4 sprites for anything that isn't gen 3. Sooooo i guess that solves it...? No idea how complex Gen 5 3d enviroments are when compared to Gen 4 (mostly HGSS)
>>58886951what about the cock pokemon
Are there any other demakes/remakes like Heart & Soul?
>>58886696good thing the dev provided an alternate link for ithttps://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1XLqpqlLSWS9-IGQYbs439jQhvOJ6SHL0?usp=sharing

>>58886899Does this one feature any weird/unusual mechanics like Spades/Clubs? For example there's this mechanic where if you grind too much enemy trainers (gym leaders included) will start to become harder, and no one's really figured out the specifics of it AFAIK
>>58891100don't know what that has to do with this thread but yeah I'm pretty sure it has been since release, if not before release. switch emulation has been solved for ages.

whats a better base for a creepy pokemon romhack, crystal or emerald?Explain your answer
Is there any action RPG Pokemon fangame / romhack where you battle in the overworld like say in Zelda?
>>58891309nigga that’s called level scaling, play other games
>>58889427What hack is this?
>>58891873Crystal because the graphics are simpler and leaves more to the imagination.
>>58892385It's not the same as level scaling, enemy progression in Spades happens independently of your levels, and can affect trainers already stronger than you
>>58891873I think emerald is the better base in general because it has a larger community and the game runs on a less limited platform, both of which make development easier. Crystal is a better option if you want the gen 2 aesthetic or want to utilize the game's existing content.
>>58892641My guess then is some hidden value is raised when fighting a wild pokemon, and when that value is above a threshold, the opponent difficulty increases. Atleast that's how I would do it.
>>58892540Altered Platinum, a Renegade Platinum derivative with a bunch of custom "Sinnohan" forms (most are pretty cool and fun to use) and custom shinies. Adds some later gen moves and buffs others as well.

>>58891400Sorry I thought it might come under hacking and I couldn't find another thread like it
>>58893051there's an emulation general on /vg/ if you need more help but switch emulation is pretty straightforward
>>58891873creepy Gen 3 hacks just makes me think of cringe shit like snakewood
>>58889165Is this a playable hack? Gen 4 hacking is a blind spot for me, I know it's possible but I don't know if it's still very much in its infancy or not.
>>58886899Sorry for the asinine question, but can anyone recommend some good games that allow for all battles to be double battles?
>>58893513>Gen 4 hacking is a blind spot for meit's a blind spot for the whole community, DS hacking doesn't have 10% of the tools GBA hacking does and the increased complexity of larger sprites and 3D models will pretty much always guarantee that it will be less accessible than GBA.Real DS hacks have started cropping up but it's likely that the scene will never balloon to the same level of GBA.The OP is Light Platinum DS, it's a demo and I'm still playing through it but it's been really blowing me away so far, it does a suberb job at replicating the charm of Gen 4 while also injecting a lot of new ideas that make it feel exciting. It's just this perfect blend between nostalgic and exciting, mostly bc of the great new music tracks, the well done custom assets, and a really high level of polish on everything, it's a remake of the GBA hack of the same name but reworked heavily to iron out that games flaws, notably the shitty writing.
>>58887947Games where my pokemon ride me?
>>58891686You can if you reduce each to 2 colors (actually 4 but you need black and white) and resize them, but it'll look awful. May anon means a Kanto game by "gen 1" in whicg case gen 3 FRLG. Doable but sounds boring.
>>58893579Damn this looks impressive. Will check out the demo as well. Too bad it's just in Spanish but I'll take what I can get.
>>58893660bothered me less than i anticipated, the nice graphics and music was worth experiencing even if everything was in taco.According to the website the demo gives you about 20 hours of content.
>>58885389Thread is made. Now I wait for it to be made public. Not sure why, but my anxiety is really high. Maybe it's excitement because I've finally made it to this part, or maybe it's fear of rejection. I doubt it's because of the end of my anonymity since I did kinda dox myself a while back. Either way, thank you /rheg/ for the help and support that I needed.

>>58893131Thanks friend
>>58893705maybe? a source code is not a get out of jail free card from doing the work that a DS rom hack would entail but I'm sure it makes things easier in some ways, and we have seen some projects coming so, maybe things are progressing.

>>58894746there's no rules to this anon, in fact I prefer a tighter, more limiting dex compared to one that crams in as much shit as possible.Focus on making what you want first, whatever feels right, and then when you have your "sketch" you can begin thinking about the bigger picture shit.
Trying to edit the essentials UI to fit a higher resolution can be such a pain in the ass. They really should have wrote it in a way you can quickly scale the whole thing with a variable change or two.
>>58894746Look at Pokemon Lazarus for an example. It kept to 400+ish mon and it kinda feels a bit cramped (could just be the smaller routes and map). I want a romhack to have an in between where the first 3-4 routes aren't just your average normalslop mon like Sentret/Rattata/Pidgey/Hoothoot with like 1 extra added in every route, but also not every new route has a brand new set of 10+ pokemon. I think a romhack with around 200-300 hand picked fun pokemon would be cool.
Is Rejuvenation actually hard or is it just cheap?
>>58895301What's the difference? Yeah it's hard.
>>58895394>What's the differenceReally shit, the hardest hacks are all pretty bs in some ways. Unbound and the gym gimmicks, Emerald Kaizo and the weather abuse/movepool limitations, Meteor Saga and the fucked up level curve. I guess the A.I is too exploitable otherwise.
For better or for worse, Peach & Lime takes the "Most likely to be made by Gamefreak in 2026" romhack award.
>>58895650So uninspired, buggy, half-assed, lacking features, thinks changing the UI is the height of innovation, bad performance, shit looking new mon designs, and unfinished?
>>58895301cheap all the waythere was an entire discussion last thread (probably that one) going over a small sample of the bullshit it throws at youif you removed the field effects and special boss mechanics the game would be a near complete pushover (in terms of battling, not puzzles or having the mental fortitude to get through the badly written slog of a story)though without the fieldshit and bossfightshit there's still the input reading AI and the developer being stingy (or at least incredibly inconsistent) with good mons and mega evolution access (you don't get it until after the 14th badge; you start fighting mega equivalents/box legendaries after the sixth badge i think)
>>58895650It is very polished on the surface, great sprites, UI and music, but everything else is very lacking. Dialogue is even more dull than GameFreak's somehow, and after just beating the second gym there has been absolutely nothing happening with no goal at all. To make the comparison with the gen it is hacking, in RSE you always move forward with a goal in mind: you first go see your dad, then you go to beat the first gym, then you have to save Peeko, then you need to deliver the letter to Steven in Dewford, then to the shipyard in Slateport, then you hear the evil team is heading to Mt Chimney, etc. Outside of the gym challenge you always have a clear idea on what your next plan is. In Lime I just beat the second gym and there is still nothing going on, just moving from one gym to the next for no reason other than "gotta do gyms I guess". Similarly, the region doesn't feel well thought out, simply serving basic functions of "this one has the trainer school, this one has the second gym" etc, but have zero flavor. The second gym town is rainy, and 90% of all the NPC dialogue in the city is some variation of "boy, this weather, huh". But what is the purpose of this city in the grand scheme of things? In RSE every city has a clear place in the region completely seperate from its gameplay function, which I don't feel at all here.
>>58895764>It is very polished on the surface, great sprites, UI and music, but everything else is very lackingthat's GF wannabe/formula worshipping hacks for youall presentation, no attempts to be different in story nor gameplay
After Odyssey and Emerald Rogue I wish every romhack had a double battles only option. Double battles are fun as fuck and have way more options for team building. Single battles feel so stale in comparison once you've had a game entirely doubles.
>>58895667Just a bunch of little things I noticed>exp all that breaks the level curve>very easy in general>gym leaders are all in stadiums>gym badges don't have dedicated names anymore>new pokemon are all blobby with too much emphasis on cutemons>overuse of NPC roadblocks>etc.Don't get me wrong, there were some things I liked. The game is very polished and feels professionally made. Just felt like some of the creative decisions were trying to copy Gamefreak in a bad way.>>58895764Yeah the music is good and the tiles look nice, but the cities have been pretty dull so far. I also didn't really care for Team Horizon or whatever they're called. The designs looked boring and not very threatening (it's the lavender lol). I didn't really get a feel for what they're all about either. I thought, maybe they use Fairy types, but then one of them had a whole team of Dark types so idk. Might be too early to say though. I'm also still around the second gym.
>>58886899Not a fan of hacks with Fakemon but I like the look of the game
I downloaded some HeartGold Touhoumon ROM hack, and they made all the basic "pokemon" have like Stage 2 stats but with dogshit moves and the EXP curves are all slow or some shit like everyone's a legendary. A level 10 vs a level 10 is like an 8 turn ordeal because damage is so low. What the fuck lol
What are your honest thoughts on the Pokémon Evergreen demo?
>>58886899Very cute startes, reminds me of something out of made in abyss
>>58896509homosexual
>>58893702Alright, final update. https://www.pokecommunity.com/threads/pok%C3%A9mon-project-post-game.540711/Surprisingly, the thread was approved quickly. Over 60 downloads, no comments yet, but either people will take an interest, or they won't. Worst case, I just retreat and work on the dark build instead. I'll be back if/when I make the first major update. A minimum of 80 more trainers seems needed to justify a post about it. Thanks.
>>58895280>I think a romhack with around 200-300 hand picked fun pokemon would be cool.I think scarlet/violet hit the nail on the head with 400 species on release. Both posts make good points, perhaps i should just pick back up on the project.
>>58895254I'm guessing the development cycle should look something like>map first>then wild mons>start placing npcs/main quest>as everything falls into place start placing side questsIve already got a bunch of the concepts down like gyms/elite4/champ/available legendaries/rough story outlined its just that starting and keeping going are the biggest hurdles.
For anyone familiar with Porymap, am I able to easily delete the emerald/firered maps and keep the custom ones? I noticed they have numerical ids and i'm hoping deleting 0.00 through 0.56 will shift everything back down to 0.00.And if that isnt the case and I have to start a brand new project if its simple enough to carry over the maps to the new project. I see a 'duplicate map' option but Im figuring thats only local to the current project and wont necessarily duplicate the maps between projects.
>>58897322yeah i'd argue you should start bit by bit with your region, i think some people do all the towns first and then string them together with routes but it usually makes everything feel strangely decoupled, moving through the region in chunks and letting your route design/theme/climate bleed into your towns and vice versa sounds like a good idea
>>58897402Well deleting all the maps had exactly the effect i thought it would have, everything is errored out. Trying to be lazy about it but I guess I could either move all the map files to a new project in file explorer or edit the map_groups.JSON file and remove all the references to all the deleted map files/folder. Maybe then it'll auto correct itself
>>58897599Looks like editing the map_groups.JSON file worked. Too scared to actually delete the unused map files for now but that was my main hurdle; map bloat.
>>58897402Generally speaking it's not a good idea to delete maps unless you really know what you're doing. Space is not an issue in gen 3. You're more likely to fuck yourself shifting indices around than you are to run out of room for more maps.

Could someone give the new Evergreen demo a proper chance?
>>58898550Sure, for like $20
>>58898365No
>>58897402>>58897736agreed, you might also want to keep the old maps around for reference on how they do things. what I would do is just put all your maps in a separate folder. I think you can make folders in map_groups.json or somewhere like that, which it looks like you were messing around with already. been awhile since I did that stuff so I don't remember the specifics but it's simple enough.
>>58898550What changed from the last time I played it?
>>58898769When was the last time you’ve played it?
>>58898550Sure. I don't know what you did to make everyone hate you, but you at least are making a game (even if it takes you longer) which is more than can be said of 99% of the people here. You, Peridot, and Postgame anon are the only people I've seen actually making something.
>>588988052024, I think.
>>58898807Alright then, here you go.https://drive.google.com/file/d/1iXrenVWo8MOWF1Ril4QETccz6UBUOv-p/view?usp=drive_link
>>58898616>you might also want to keep the old maps around for reference on how they do things.I had considered keeping it around for that, I ended up deleting them because I figured it would make backing up/restoring a lot faster without all those extra maps. I'll definitely want to reverse engineer how they script just about all their events. Right now I'm just trying to get all the map spaces set up.
>>58898464That's wired. Looking into it, that seems to be a bug with the plug in, but one that's easy to fix. I don't think it warrants an emergency patch, but just in case, I've already made the fix and will just slide that into the patch notes with the first big update.

>>58904960The design is good but the shading looks wonky. The light should be shining from one place (usually the upper left hand corner) and the outlines should be colored in where the light is touching them. Your sprite just has black and colored outlines interchangeably.
>>58906533Thanks for the tips, I struggle a lot of shading and contrasting colors.>black and colored lines interchangeablyIn fairness, this is something even the official sprites do a fair bit, I do typically prefer going for black outlines to make the design really pop, but a lot of the previous sprites I worked on by building them off of already existing HGSS sprites, had colored and black mixed in separate parts throughout stuff like the arms and legs.
Slight edit with the input from the other anon. For a bit more context, the idea behind this sprite was a Street Fight-esque inspired Fighting master with a subtle Anihilape motif, which is why I tried giving him some wild tufts of hair that just stick up.I like incorporating the colors and aspects of certain Pokemon into their trainer's designs.
