Looks like the Charizard deck is doing somewhat well in tourneys. They run 1 of each Mega. I can't tell if it's being bolstered by a combination of new toy syndrome and running Y in the deck anyway. Mega Manectric and Mega Scizor decks are also running around pretty well. Other than that, just the usual Igglykrai combo that has been popping up, with Ogerpon splashed here and there to attempt to counter it.
Anyway, will have to see what persists, since I remember Mega Lopunny dominated a tourney when it came out, then fell off hard afterward, so new toy syndrome can definitely be a factor. Can't really blame people for not wanting to play the same decks for months.

That is likely the intended synergy, the problem is it relies on having trail up, not having it taken down and you're still going -2 to then get a potential +2 so you end up with almost no advantage after jumping through a bunch of joops and then you need to draw your second maintenance for the combo to really pay off. Back in stall metas this could have been solid, but in today's super aggressive fast metas it is too slow, too clunky and all that to achieve the same as an Iono/copycat.

Electivire is just a less consistent Hydreigon.
Fun to get the Suicune OHKO, though.

Mono electric energy seems to be the most consistent for me.
Going first, toss onto Electabuzz every time.
Going second, toss onto Magmar every time, but the lightning energy can go to either depending on your hand and the matchup.

Going second, you can set up some interesting plays with Magmortar, because Electivire can one-shot a lot of stuff pulled in with Cyrus and Magmortar can retreat for 2.
Red gets Electivire to the 140 breakpoint.

No training area, because 130 damage is not that relevant.
No Mesagoza, because it is too slow: May gets us online much faster.
No Sightseer, because she gets us 0.8 cards on average.

I wish that Magmortar could attack for 2, but it is what it is...

Mega Venusaur is the most consistent deck by far when you discount cards that the AI WILL misplay like Copycat and May. You have two copies of Ivysaur, two copies of Mega Venusaur, and two Jokers in Quick Growth Extract serving as additional copies of either. Then you have access to the most potent single target healing supporters in Erika and Lillie. Diantha would be good in this deck if Venusaur was Psychic but you have enough as it is.

Mega gard is not an energy generator, using it as such is just retardation.

The only thing you use Mgards energy for is loading up a second mgard and overloading for Diantha. Male indeedee is an acceptable energy target since it's not something you use as an attacker and is only used as a 70 damage Cyrus the enemy can't stop once it's on the board. I see decks trying to run mewtwo and other garbage that doesn't actually help since once you attack with mgard you put yourself in harms way and have to devote all your healing to keeping it alive and out of Cyrus range.

I will say the one good thing for me from this new pack is that maintenance actually makes my golurk deck a bit more consistent.

use golett as your only basic, then fill your deck with only evolved pokemon to be golurk's ammo. you don't need rhyhorn to put rhydon and rhyperior in the deck, so you can rig it to always give you golett turn 1.

The average player doesn't know the game, they just learn what to do to counter the top meta decks/characters/teams.
The first time they meet something that isn't a top meta pick and they have to actually employ critical thinking against something they don't know the "solve", they implode.
