It's wild how much stronger and more useful Hisuian Samurott is compared to the regular one. Ceasless Edge just shits out damage without requiring any setup and sets up spikes. Sucker Punch is strong priority stab. Sharpness is unquestionably one of the best offensive abilities, whilst the regular one gets shitty ass Shell Armor. Won multiple games only using him.

Tera changes your type which, for many Pokemon, basically turns them into something completely different. Both opponent's functionally are given one extra Pokemon and using that properly is necessary to win against an actual skilled player.

Yes Tera can be used to run dumb stuff like Tera Steel Gholdengo + Perrserker but not only is that basically built in to all the competitive Megas that Tera Steel also comes with actual drawbacks like Gholdengo now being able to get hit with Fake Out or using Tera yourself to out it and completely reverse the momentum.

It's hard to explain since I'm 90% sure you've never competed in a VGC tournament during SV, but it's not matchup fishing if you actually establish ways to win even against inopportune Teras. Teambuilding is fun but actually playing in a not awful metagame is more fun because your team will be unable to win just by the matchup but rather the use of interesting synergies/outplays. Notably this isn't the case with Champions and honestly only was the case in gen 9 because of Tera.
