Quick FAQ
>Do I need my own Pokémon to play?
No, the game features a recruitment system, but transferring from Home is recommended to save time and resources.
>What makes the game so much more accessible than before?
All aspects of a Pokémon are customizable with VP, a currency earned simply by playing the game. IVs are also removed.
>Is there single player content?
No.
>Do I need a Nintendo Online subscription?
No.
>What's the starter pack?
US$6.99 one time purchase for 50 training tickets (fully train for free), 30 quick coupons, 50 extra box space and the LGPE trainer music.
>Is anything locked behind a paywall?
So far everything gameplay relevant is also purchasable with VP. Mega Kalos starters and E-Floette require ZA transfer.

My run to double masters was completely snowed the fuck out with Aurorus, my run to singles masters was mostly carried by Magnetic Flux Parabolic Charge Ampharos. This game is so much fun when you just use whatever pokemon you feel like at the time.

>>
>>59227386
You're supposed to do a big move with your teammate as using Rage Powder means the opponent is getting burned. Also it can really make teams with lots of physical attackers hesitant to bring them out

For teammates you can pair it with Dual Screener (Meowstic or Dragapult) to make it tankier. Another teammate is Mega Aerodactyl as your secondary mega as it's Pokemon that works both as a self-sufficient attacker and a support and can get away from not even going mega as long as it hits its rockslides and tailwind
>>
>>59227384
Yeh, it's like a benevolent Bronzong. I've been doing Cosmic/Stored Power with it in singles to some success.

>>
>>59227384
Took it to Master Ball tier in Singles. It's one of those mons that's easier to take out before it becomes a real problem than you think it should, but some people just don't how to play around it. I have run into more people than I should have who either open with Glimmora and try nailing it with EP after it goes mega or people who try to just brute force it with Chomp Outrage.

purely typing wise, water dragon is great because

it all depends on movesets, abilities, stat spreads of course. But its not too shabby of a typing by itself. Water/ghost on the other hand, doesnt really overlap other than both being just good offensive typings in general

I think I would rather deal with Dialga. It's even a monster in singles. So far no pokemon has made me more angry that this bridge fucker. And as extreme salt to the wound, a shiny one appeared for me in champions.

What's the counter play against this thing that isn't Mega Lucario or Archaludon?
>>
>>59227885
I mean there are checks, like megadnite can just blow the fucker up with draco meteor (as long as it's not running spdef) but megadnite is just kinda whatever as a mega. My problem is if you aren't running a dedicated counter the thing just runs rampant if they manage to even get a single stamina off of a neutral or resisted attack. It snowballs fast af if you fuck up a single time. Also sinistcha being such a good partner for it doesn't help when that piece of shit cup is everywhere
>>

>They don't have any supereffective moves
>My Corviknight has Protect and Roost
>Figure I've basically lost but decide to be an asshole and try to waste my opponent's time
>Keep Protecting and Roosting, occasionally wearing down the Azumarill
>Azumarill is at 3% HP
>It goes for Belly Drum
>Fails
>Opponent forfeits
>I win
I feel like in an official tournament I would've been disqualified for bad sportsmanship, but I'm pretty proud of myself that I basically managed to annoy my opponent into quitting when I was in a losing situation.
>>
>>59227885
There is like more than a 50% for an adamant sneedler to OHKO an arch with max hp granted you didn't procc stamina before.
Most strong special attackers can bring it down to low with a decent neutral spread move.
Not sure how common it is for it to invest in both hp and sp.def
Zard-y can OHKO it with a weather ball through max hp investment

This is the team that ended up getting me to master. Even in ultra you can get a lot of easy wins just by running uncommon stuff that people don't see often. Props to Tsareena, Drampa and Araquanid specifically, all very underrated and good against a lot of common threats imo. I don't know if I'll bother climbing further, if I do I'll probably switch half of them out for speedy fucks so I'm not as reliant on TR

Psyshock on alolan ninetails is great lmfao fuck off sneasler

>>59228061
You usually lead Slowking/Tsareena or Hatterene/Tsareena, depending on the other team. TR on the TR setter turn one and Protect on Tsareena if there's something that can threaten it like Sneasler (though a lot of the time they will just go for Fake Out), otherwise you can U-Turn out or even go for a cheeky Power Whip. After TR is up you pivot your mega of choice in as fast as possible and play hyper aggressively. Spider is there to spam Liquidation and Wide Guard, so slot it in if you think this'll be useful against the other team. Do note it's good even into Mega Charizard Y thanks to Water Bubble. As for the mega, I really just ended up using Drampa 90% of the time because Crabominable has a lot of tough matchups at the moment

Last Respects would be better if it were 45 and went up by 45. Rage Fist is fine because you can basically attack around Ape and deny him the boosts. Doing that with Basc just powers it up. Going "up" 4v2 against a team with Basc can often be a loss because it can now has spammable adaptability Hyper Beam. Nerfing the damage down to even 135 would actually turn a lot of OHKOs to 2HKOs and add counterplay beyond "call its target and Protect right" or "hope your Normal type is healthy."
>>
>>59228238
Rage Fist always requires a little set up and most of the time if you see it coming, it’s easy to fuck them up. Like follow me would redirect a maushold’s beat up, you can encore lock annihilape when it bulks up turn 1 (if they’re dumb), and so on. Also that was a tera format so hehe, looks like I was immune to ghost this entire time, would be a shame if I knew you’d tera fire because literally every ape is and killed you. You also had indeedee as a great follow me user to be immune to rage fist.
Basc doesn’t require a set up to get good, just have something be dead. The only follow me user immune is Maus, ironically, and while I use it, I can tell you it isn’t as popular as most other redirecters right now. I agree, shits overtuned at this power level, but I think it’ll fall off when more stuff gets added.

Lets face it, even if you are scared of bans or whatever, tons of unsuspecting people have traded for genned mons, either directly, or through the gts or wonder trade. If you wanna keep it all kosher, fine, but me im just hoarding legendaries before it becomes relevant in the future

It’s annoying at shit but this is the strat but you of course focus high value cards. You don’t need to reset the night after every reward battle. You just go back to the battle zone and farm a new reward battle

From threads like these
>>59227991
Really makes me think we should try and figure out what is the best theoretical team you can make just from the starters, since people are STILL playing Champions like a normal gacha, and spending VP to still not make a team.
For example this was a team i cooked up when i was just testing the beginner teams
https://pokepast.es/477dac65577b665d
its not like the best (i cant be arsed to figure out any spreads or whatever), but from the singular battle i did on the showdown ladder,i did get a win off an actual rain team
>>
>>59228853
I never played doubles in my life, but I got to master just fine with arch, sneed, pelipper and basc.
My only experience with comp is playing ranbats.
Though I did have sv so it was fairly easy for me to get thos mons

>>59228853
Be the change you want to see in the word. Which team is the best to start with? Pikachu is stacked and has the novelty of a NFE Pokemon
>>
How was a mega Gengar faster than my scarfed Basculegion?
>>
>>59228868
Timid mega-gengar outspeeds adamant basc.
>>
>>59228853

>>
>>59228864
right, but the core idea right now is that people are retarded.
You know how easy it is to get mons in champions, and so do i. But for whatever reason, people dont wanna trade through home or whatever. Im just saying, that if we just GIVE these niggers a literal trainer code to copy and make as a template, maybe theyll stop bitching about how hard it is to win.
>>59228867
>Be the change you want to see in the word
Im literally tradeanon, op and guideanon all at once. I AM the change.
>Pikachu is stacked and has the novelty of a NFE Pokemon
fine, but someone really got to figure out the generic EV spreads and basic moveset, and leads for how it works. So far, consensus says that team is better for singles, not doubles

You could make 2 or 3 retard proof teams with instructions, but those aren't really evergreen considering this is a rotating format.
Unless you're willing to make new teams every new format
>>
>>59228958
well obviously not.
Best we can do is hone the starter teams to the best of our abilities. The only thing we can realistically provide is a floor so that people like this >>59227991 stop bitching and actually have a fallback 'good' team to use.
Also im glad you brought up the evergreen factor. Since this game is still up in the air with how it will treat new formats, the only realistic way for us to go about it is to assume every starter team will be legal in every format, for perpetuity. Obviously there is a chance we have formats like NFE which that is not the case, but until proven otherwise, there just isnt a better way to write a guide which doesnt get invalidated every couple of months
>>
>>59228879
I don't think you can teach retards to stop being retarded. Having our own team repository isn't a bad idea though.

Why not run a scarf on Tsareena with Triple Axel, Zen Headbutt, Trop Kick/Power Whip, and Low Kick?
Jolly + 30 Spe 1hkos Aero, Sneasler, Chomp, Trop Kick basically always KOs uninvested Basc, Low Kick does a number on Gambit and KOs Ttar.
The value is immeasurable.

Yes, however Noivern's typing kinda opens him up to way more in the current meta than Aero's does. I love the guy but Dragon/Flying is AWFUL
>x4 to Blizzard
>x2 to Rock Slide
>x2 to Dragon Claw/Draco Meteor/Dragon Pulse
>x2 to Draining Kiss/Moonblast/Dazzling Gleam
Guy gets absolutely fucked by every common attacking move in the game. Maybe, MAYBE if teams start dropping Garchomp/whatever fairy attacker he could start seeing more play but for now he's just food.

Basic idea is setting up priority screens to support Arch's already insane bulk, and leveraging either manual rain setup via Rain Dance Sableye or Pelly to start spamming Electroshot and build up your SpA. Arch's coverage of steel/electric/dragon pretty much hits every meta team for neutral damage at worse, and once you're at +2 SpA anything you pump out hits like a truck. Main counters are strong SpA sweepers of your own, especially bulky ones that can hit the bridge for super-effective damage like Earth Power, or strong fighting type damage from the onset to avoid stacking Stamina DEF boosts.
>>59229157
If it's the video's set then no, KO'ing Sableye turn 1 is often the best play to make because afterwards you can stall out whatever screen is set up and then attack Arch, especially if you gain weather control.
>>
>>59229163
Are you using it on non-prankster? Otherwise it would get blocked by type & ability right?
>>
>>59229143
I love the guy, his design is one of my favorites from Gen 6 and I think Inflitrator is an underrated ability especially considering the recent rise of Sableye, but man is he let down by his typing.
>>
>>59229169
I have it on Oranguru. Status moves hit past immunities
>>
>>59229168
How much speed investment is arch?
>>
>>59229185
Minor, if any at all. Most is HP/SpD, so you'll probably see either 32/32/2 or 32/25 and the remaining in Speed or SpA.
Just fast enough to outspeed some things outside TR, but just slow enough to do the same under TR. The team does leverage Sinistcha's healing so it can set up TR if its against a TW team and wants to catch them off-guard. It almost never leads anything but Sableye/Arch so most don't expect TR to come out late into the match, which can be deadly if you're caught unaware and Arch has all his boosts up.
>>
>>59227318
I want to, was tempted to even ladder as mono ice. Did it on bug instead but not without tilting several times.

Where do I get started on Ice teams, especially for doubles? Any guides on hand? I know almost nothing about it. Hisuian Avalugg + 50% defense in snow sounds like a dirty start on paper but no idea how it functions in practice. It does get wide guard, so you can play into AoE firefags.
>>
>>59229190

>>
>>59229083

>>59229212
Tsar really suffers from "4-move syndrome", as all her options are pretty strong. From my experience the Trop Kick/Low Kick/Triple Axel/Protect set seems to be the most common, although they're rarely scarfed. Zen Headbutt puts in serious work on surprise KO'ing Sneedlers, but they're going to Fake Out you 99% of the time anyways so does being scarfed really help in that situation?
Mono-grass is kinda shitty typing as well. I'm sure we'll see her start to rise in this meta but she does have a lot of weaknesses.

Gliscor is actually a sick support mon on a sandstorm team. It's got buckets of utility moves like tailwind, feint, breaking swipe, knockoff, u-turn. Coverage moves for days if you need them, stab earthquake, electric immunity.
It's pretty fast, its very bulky, Sand Veil + Bright Powder can just randomly win you games.

I don't think I lost much at all but my Elo was 1300 somehow. After a 12 win streak and steady upward win/loss trading over a few days I'm still only at 1550. Did I lose 80 games in my sleep or something? How did this happen??

HP is more valuable when you already have high defenses and defenses are more valuable when you already have high HP.

I miss having my immeasurably edgy trainer card from Scarlet
>>

I can't imagine how a trainer card can look edgy in sv.
>>

The damage formula is (VERY simplified) attack / defense. This means every point of defense gives diminishing returns, but it also means the first few points give a big damage reduction. If you have 50 defense and to to 51, that's an extra ~2% damage reduction. If you go from 100 to 101, that's ~1%. HP is additive. One extra HP lets you survive one extra HP of damage. It usually doesn't matter unless you're EVing to survive a very specific calc, but for example, on my Floette I'm EV'd to survive a max attack Kinggambit Iron Head and there's a tipping point where one extra defense doesn't change the spread, but one extra HP does, so I put the point into HP. Run the calcs and figure out which is better for your Pokemon. If its a Pokemon with min/maxxed HP and defenses, like a Snorlax or something, it will probably be better to get one extra defense than one extra HP.

You can do the pose where your character is putting his hand out and grinning and if you angle it right it can look like you're cupping an NPC's boob.

these slow tanky mons are such a fucking illusion man, you’re just a hax victim if you move 2nd in this goddamn game. I cant take it anymore lmao

Your spending a moveslot on a situational move. Am I gonna put wideguard on aero over tailwind, protect, taunt, wingbeat, rockslide? That's tough, I use taunt, tailwind, etc way more often than I would use wideguard. Then again I'm masterball 4, maybe I just suck

>Make a M-Golurk Trick Room team with Torkoal on it too
>Torkoal ends up being the main nuke 90% of the time
I am considering dropping Golurk actually. He's mostly here to clean up things after Torkoal, but even then Torkoal is the big damage dealer.
Who could I swap into the Mega slot for a hard Trick Room team here? Also playing with the idea of using Oranguru in stead of Farig because of Instruc shenanigans, but Armor Tail is way too valuable.

Reminder to make all your team selection/move choices in your head first then in your head first and in the game at the last second. There is a "see opponents choices" hack going around.

Or, perhaps, you're just playing very apparently. That's the problem when the meta is as centralized as it is. Every match plays 90% the same, barring random elements like crits, drops and statuses, because the match state is going to be the same nearly every game. Hell, that's one of the main reasons people fucking hate Sableye, because it has so many sets it can run that it becomes nigh impossible to predict what fucking horror it's about to unleash.

do I need to max IVs before I transfer mons over to champions or are they all set to 31?
If I bring my 0 speed IV pokemon are they slower than the the trick room you get from the ranch?
>>
>>59231363
All defaulted to 31
>>
>>59231363
IVs don’t exist in champions, everyone is treated like they have 31 IV so your 0 speed will be the same as recruited and you don’t need to use bottlecaps. However your EVs and learned moves are transferred and snapshotted so make sure you have those right if you intend to move them out of champions

Just got into Master Ball. At 1730 ELO at the moment. I don't know if that's considered literally comical but I've only been playing Pokémon for a few weeks.

Best "play" so far was predicting Amarouge swapping out, other mon protecting, and them bringing in Charizard-Y to set weather back from rain to sun. So I hit rain dance on Sableye even though rain was already up, and electro shot into the Amarouge slot, and that is what they did do.

Worst thing was trying to Will-o-Wisp Amarouge turn 1 in an earlier game. It has an ability that boosted their fire moves so I just forfeited immediately obviously.

Most unexpected win is somehow playing around coil hypnosis Milotic and sleep powder Venusaur side by side without any taunt users.

So what’s the tanking/VP farming meta shaping up to be? Has anyone found an optimal loss strat to maximize streak bonuses without ranking up out of Pokeball tier yet? Or did everyone just hit Great Ball by accident and now they can’t go back?

I feel like it’s worth understanding at the start of a season since once you exit Pokeball you’lll never have the opportunity to farm bots for streak wins again.
>>
>Accidentally click earthquake
>Gonna ko my own mon
>Enemy aero used rock slide
>Flinched!
>My ally mon is saved
>All according to plan
>>
>>59231426
Losijg against bots takes far longer than losing against real players, I don't even know why you would be considering that. If you actually fought a bot, you'd know that they use shit moves that don't make any sense. They're free wins to get your confidence up. What does VP even matter if you're not trying to play the game?
>>
>>59231426
You will hard tank your MMR and brick your account for doing that. Just play the game normally. It drowns you in VP from wins, achievements, dailies, and weeklies. Anyone who has actively been playing since launch already has so much VP they don't know what to do with it.
>>
Do you usually use Protect when opposing pokemon can use Fake Out once? Say, for Mega Aggron, is it worth it to set up Iron Defense and risk getting clapped for 9 damage? Part of me thinks it'll be wasteful to protect if they FO the partner pokemon instead
>>
>Drop Psychic Terrain
>opponent immediately tries to Prankster encore.
>Kingambit uses sucker punch
>Mega Dragonite uses Extreme Speed

There are some real shitters in this weekend comp. I'm about to go back and play some Ultra Tier to have a challenge again.
>>
>>59231505
Most of the time you should be able to read who is getting fake outed.
Which of your pokemon is posing the most threat to them that turn? Protect that one, or use it as a chance to switch mons and reposition
>>
>>59231519
it's quite literally any rank can sign up for it, so it's bound to be a large portion of people who are at like, low ultra, even greatball players in the GC
>>
>>59231519
We don't have a single terrain setter ability in the game so I'm not surprised that people don't know their effects yet.
>>
Why does the game try so hard to ruin my win streak? I'm still in Pokeball for doubles and I'm battling people with a brain.
>>
Why am I feeling performance pressure for a competition with no stakes whatsoever? I hate myself.
>>
>>59230245
>coil milotic

You're a bastard...
>>
>>59229827
Doesn't lose streaking stack the same way? So losing 4 in a row down ranks as much as winning 4? Or is it because of the protection from dropping below certain tiers?
>>
>>59230230
You can enter the GC after it's opened now by the way. They specifically changed that in Champions.
>>
>>59231505
Yes protect, usually they fake out so you can't hit their ally that turn and then the ally rains down something fucked up on you.
>>
>>59231519

The most common spread moves right now are Rock Slide, Dazzling Gleam, and Heat Wave and really Rock Slide is the only one you need to worry about and only if you're running Zard.
>>
>>59231505
Ask yourself this, what are the consequences of eating the protect? Will it break a focus sash, or Gale Wings, or do enough chip for you to be in OHKO range of something you're calc'd to survive? Protect. Will it do inconsequential chip and, if it doesn't target you, can you use this turn to gain an advantage? Pick another move and keep your opponent honest.
