I hope in the future they differentiate the GC from normal play in some way, like showing items or something just to make it a little bit of a competitive experience closer to a tournament or at least feel different than ranked ladder 2.0: limited time edition. I barely played but had fun in the few games I did. My favorite game was dogwalking a perish gengar player by just going hyper aggressive. If both pokemon can kill gengar in one hit, they don't know what to do and most of the time just scramble to respond. Also Sableye is very overrated imo. It's great when people don't know how to work against it but I feel like most of the time you can look at a team and guess 3/4 of its moves and then it's easy to handle. I think I have more fun playing this game sporadically rather than every or every other day.
Today I went from 1779 to 1590. My last game a Greninja froze every single one of my pokemon with ice beam. I don't even fucking know anymore man

If they stall you long enough, odds are that you will not have enough time to play again, lowering their odds of facing you again. They do the same shit in fighting games, or in mobas. It's more prevalent on PC games, since internet cafés focus more on that, but a lot of them has opened up sections to bring a Switch 2 and it's been particularly popular since Champions' release, so a lot of them will literally stall for the petty reason of wasting your money for the internet café time you've paid for.

I just started yesterday and picked Ttar. So other than the free mystery gift Dragonite and Machamp, the rest of the team are Sylveon, Whimsicott, Drampa, Arcanine Aggron, Garchomp from yesterday's recruitment and a Palafin from today's recruitment. I've done all the missions and got to Great Ball but I have no idea how to move forward, obviously my free team isn't optimal but I'm bad at team building and don't really know how to optimise my shit.
