Reached Masters 4 in Singles with my mono-Ground team! Had a couple unique fights on the winstreak. One player led with Jolteon (???), while I led with G-Stunfisk expecting my opponent to lead with Primarina or Blastoise. I trapped it in with Snap Trap, then started Spiting all it's moves. It had Rain Dance, Hyper Voice, Volt Switch, and Thunder. They resigned before the Jolteon was freed from the binding.
I also outsped a H-Arcanine while sweeping with a Diggersby which totally surprised me as I had no speed boosts. They must have had an Adamant nature. Max Speed investment would only land them 279 whereas Jolly Diggersby just hits 280. Talk about lucky!

I team build more than I play, really. I look for/find a gimmick or set I like and I build around it. Do a few matches until I win 1-2 more than I lose, then move on to the next build.
It's easy to only worry about what's meta but I think Champions offers the most freedom in team building we've had in a very long time.
What staples do you have ready? Stuff like Incineroar, Sinistcha and Sneaser. Do you like your teams fast or do you prefer to bring Trick Room? I find Trick Room wins me more games overall than regular speed building since it allows you to invest EVs in bulk instead of speed.

I play singles and I just lose no matter what my team comp is. Getting to master ball took way longer than expected and it hurt my ego. I see something cool a youtuber uses and try it for myself and seemingly have no answers to whats in front of me. I just want to have fun and win, so no stall. Probably just hyper offensive mash buttons is my preferred style

Singles is very basic anyways, have a defensive pivot to punish their aggro and you can aggro all you want.

What's your team? Just build around what other people build. You see the most common everything. If you have a Pokémon they people are scared shitless lead with what would counter what would counter your Pokémon.

I think you want Trick Room then, so you don't have to worry as much about speed tiers for now. Use my go-to, Mimikyu as your opener. You can set up a Trick Room unimpeded and then proceed to attack with Play Rough or Shadow Claw, or switch in to something built with 0 speed and high defenses so you can actually take a hit or two.
I'd suggest Snorlax and Abomasnow. They're just both favorites of mine as well as easy to use. Aboma's a glass canon so you can give it a Focus Sash so it can take a hit as well and have it either throw up an Aurora Veil or hit some stuff with Blizzard or Giga Drain.
Snorlax resists both Ice and Fire making it a great late-game tank, you just have to watch out for Fighting moves mainly.

There's no perfect team so keep experimenting and having fun. Try to learn speed tiers and type advantages and you'll get there.

So far, I pick a general synergy that works, then slowly refine it to cover for what stops it. They aren't perfect teams but they work well enough aren't exactly common.

I play double format and I've played around with:
-Frost Breath Froslass + Anger Point Tauros
-Malamar + MScrafty

I have this theory where fairy types really just exist in tournaments and not ladder. This explains why everyone shits on staraptor in tournaments, but not on ladder. Stuff which normally kneels to fairies like chomp is far more representated in ladder than in tourneys because floette and sylveon is everywhere.
I havent seen those two on ladder in a while now, its always the usual char and rain slop

I can't believe I didn't realize this before. It makes so much sense. You'd think with almost 100 speed stat this would not be a TR viable pokemon, but because the meta is full of jacked up garchomps and charizards and super speed ghost fish, it actually does play out that way.

Actually surprised that it took this long to unlock mega garchomp, yeah that speed drop sucks but my Adamant ceruledge is outrunning zard y's these days and tailwind is like a pseudo sand rush, it can also be ran special like a nidoking with actual bulk and a better typing when it's in sand with its ability

I got to MB last season but I just played it cause singles was what I was familiar with and to get VP to buy doubles sets and mons, i can't really go back to comp singles now that I found dubs way more fun and less stally, singles kinda demands slow playstyles and while toxapex is successful in doubles. when i face it it usually just sits there to get blasted with zap cannon from mega ychu and even if ychu faints, it gives you too many turns to take it down ime, still needs to be respected in the builder though

I didn't like playing with someone's team since I didn't feel right with its playstyle. And their team is always built with its creator's intention, which is not always implied at their report.
My building style either starts with a gimmick or main lead, or just building a goodstuffs team with synergized types and coverages, with decent support. Of course everything will also need to have a good matchup against most meta teams.

I can't say I'm the best, but I should be decent enough. In M-3 I made a Jolteon/Raichu X in snow for Ice Weather Ball, then someone got to Champion with similar team. In SV I also topped several offline tourneys with rain + 4 genies.
