It's a great game, but irony-poisoned zoomers aren't mature enough to handle it.

i bought it when it came out, got most of the endings and then decided i didnt need anymore so i broke the disc and threw it away. its the definition of a 5/10 game

What was the last good rhythm game? My guess is pop'n music 10. Bemani were holding the line for so long and then they just sorta gave up.
>>12023086Why 10 and not at least 14? There isn't much difference between them. There's more difference between 9 and 10 even.
>>12023161Night Walk is great.
>>12023795Op probably doesn't actually play popn. Imagine if they said popn 6 was the best.17 fucked it all up by getting rid of every license. I would say Peace was probably their best due to the callbacks and obviousness it was going to be the last. Altho I really do like Sunny Park.
>>12025208I haven't played 17 but the series didn't have licenses for so long at the start that losing them wouldn't hit me that hard.

>>12024795For its first 10 years all D&D was this. From the mid 70s when it was hust a fantasy remake of thr "chainmail" miniature milsim through the early first edition modules. The core rule books had random encounter tables an "treasure type" RNG loot, with higher level monsters dropping better +X gear.It was only later on that the D&D shifted to actual roie play, with city political adventures and taverns for homosexual theater fags to LARP and share their prose with fellow players. Fuck I hate bards. To me D&D was always hack and slash dungeon crawl and all early RPGs followed that format faithfully. Diablo is legit for that reason.
>>12025698No reason you couldn't have a middleground.
Previous thread: >>11986381Rules of the thread are simple:>You can only talk about games and systems made before the US release of the NES (1985). Everything before it from the CRT Amusement Device to stuff like Marble Madness and Kung Fu Master is cool here. Later and homebrew ports for Pre-NES games on Pre-NES systems are allowed (e.g. Jr. Pac-Man was released in arcades in 1983 but the 2600 port came out in 1986)>That's it.How do I git gud at arcade Battlezone? Also how do you bind that game? My binds for my Dualsense controller are okay but I wanna know if I can do better.
>>12023585Confession: I've never played the arcade version of Wizard of Wor. Is it on FBNeo?

The machine was a custom-built circuit that could only play tic-tac-toe, similar to an electromechanical pinball machine, while Strachey's Draughts was made to run on a computer, and was actually ported from one computer to another.
>>12002538If you are talking about their home computers, your aren't wrong. But, all the Timesplitters games fucking kick ass and that's me ignoring all the other pretty good games they made in other genres as the mid-to-late 90s and the 2000s rolled around. You gotta make your bait believable

The "tate" mechanic wasn't too bad until the final boss. There are just instances in which the boss decides to cast a spell to be invulnerable or deflect your melee attacks that outright negates your efforts in building up your tate gauge and you're waiting around for more enemies to respawn so you aren't doing a pixels worth of damage. Generally a good game, but I can see why people drop Shinobi at the final boss. Hell, the train station boss in level 3 with the ninja dogs are harder than anything else up till the final boss.
>>12023293you are forced into one way of playing. you have to use the charged up tate attacks to kill bosses because otherwise you would need to hit them like 300 times and because the game also forces you to play on a timer you cant even do that for a challenge. you can either kill the boss with 1 super tate attack, or a bunch of smaller ones. any uncharged attacks will be doing like 5% of the total damage to the boss.if only the first chapter lets you play it straight that doesnt really mean anything because that is the tutorial chapter. its the easiest chapter and the one people will spend the least time playing. the game has a difficulty spike right away at chapter 2 or 3 and from then on each stage will take exponentially longer to beat for a new player than chapter 1. so its a dishonest argument to say that the game doesnt force you to kill all the bosses using tate combos because the first tutorial chapter doesnt do that.i like the game for what it is but its still a 5/10 for me. the death timer plus mandatory tate combo playstyle strikes me as a newgame+ secondary character playstyle. not what i would have sold the game around.
>>12018070>you have a katana, it should never be doing 0.05% of a bosses life barExplain to us how you kill a tank or attack helicopter with a katana.
>>12025336Very carefully.
>>12025336idk maybe they shouldnt make you hit it with a sword? however- its also a videogame. hitting it 300 times to kill it isnt fun. hitting it 5 times or 1 time to kill it is just as lame. this is where game design comes in. but its a moot point. there are countless organic living bosses and the helicopter and the tank are the exceptions. so why do you argue about the exception? how many bosses in this game are just some guy? if nothing else i think it wuld have been fun to have the katanas base damage value change depending on what you fight. that would make the 300 hits to kill the helicopter or the tank funny at least.
>>12025245>otherwise you would need to hit them like 300 timesOr just use ninpo, which is the fastest way to kill almost every single boss except the last one.

>>12024481I actually posted these >>12022781 hoping to bait that reply lolThey are actually not traditional painted in any capacity. The artist is Iain McCaig (pretty well know among pros); he talked about this early gig fairly recently in an interview for a LucasArts fan website. He "painted" all these from scratch using digital software and a MOUSE since tablets weren't a thing back then, and not even referencing photographs (though he used his coworkers as inspiration). To be fair though it's not really "pixel art" but rather a very early and inconvenient form of digital painting.

Do you think adding a Bow and Arrow item would have broken Zelda II combat? The bow (and boomerang) must have felt like an odd exclusion, no?

I finally want to deep-dive into this console's library, but I'm having trouble sifting through all the ported arcade games. What are the best games that were exclusively made for the PC-Engine, including the CD-ROM2 add-on and the PC-Engine Duo?Also, I'm curious about multi-plat games where the PC-Engine port is considered the best version - later-gen ports notwithstanding

Yes. Just change your jobs and find skill combos that help you keep up with the fights. Got a wild sort of whimsical that gets serious but overall doesn't take itself too seriously. And it has a beautiful cave theme.
