>October 1992
>Only a month left until the launch of the biggest game on the Sega Mega Drive
>The only mention it gets in Mega Drive Fan is a half-page segment and one of the images is upside down
>The magazine is 104 pages so it's not like they were tight in space or anything
Was this sort of thing normal back in the day? Were big games not often hyped up before release? This was after they had decided on Sonic 2sday (it's literally mentioned in the article) so you would think they might try to hype up the game more.
>>
It probably got more press at an earlier point.

You think so? They don't even have Tails' name in this issue, they just keep calling him Sonic's buddy.
I can't find scans for the issues immediately before or after this one so I have nothing to compare to. Closest I have is January 1993 which has some ads for purchasing the game (and GG version) and a single one-line mention of Sonic CD and literally nothing else.

Maybe MDF editors just didn't like Sonic?

I swear I can see a roaming roman in one of these screenshots

They're there! You can see them if you squint.

Japs never cared about Sonic.
>>
I'm a lot more interested in the zones listed there. The zone order matches the original plan for Sonic 2, without most of the cut zones.
>Green Hill and then Metropolis are the only surviving zones from Present 1
>Hill Top is the only surviving zone from Past 1
>Hidden Palace was possibly where time travel took place after Past 1
>Oil Ocean is all that's left of Present 2
>then Casino Night and Chemical Plant and Death Egg are all that's left of the Future
>a zone was planned to be right before Death Egg, which is where Neo Green Hill came in
So this is a month before release, a month after the last betas, but why are they referencing older dev material? And note the lack of Mystic Cave/Dust Hill.

more like japs didnt care about the megadrive in general
the sonic games were some of the best selling megadrive games though regardless

Maybe they hadn't received an updated build or other information from Sega for that article, and/or whoever was writing just referred back to their own old writeup for reference. It's not particularly out of the ordinary for articles or even official promotional material to br hilariously out of date, like the first print of the SMB3 NES box used early promotional mockup screenshots which would've been around a year and a half old by the time of printing.

Kek here is what actually happens
>Mega Drive Fan (メガドライブFAN) was a Japanese magazine which focused on the Sega Mega Drive.
>It started as a section in Family Computer Magazine in the first half of 1989, before getting spun out into it's own magazine.

Nintendo Yakuza strikes again
Posing as a Sega fanmag to sabotage Sega's mascot rival to Nintendo

You cannot make this shit up
>>

So if it wasn’t for Nintendo, Sega would have gotten zero press for their garbage consoles. You furryfuck hedgehog fags should be kneeling at an alter dedicated to Mario
>>
The upside down picture is funny lol was the editor asleep or what lmao
>>
>>10855861
Maybe they did it on purpose to make it look like he's running through the top part of a loop-de-loop because the retards at Sega didn't put any good loop-de-loop stills in the press kit. Everybody loves making Sonic run the loop-de-loop.

Hey retard: Family Computer Magazine wasn't owned by Nintendo

This. It's a IS game.
>>
>>10851453
Not exactly the same thing but Nintendo Power had to act like Super Mario Bros 3 and the Super Famicom didn't exist and when they couldn't hide it anymore they had to be coy about whether either of them would come to the US at all.
>>
Sega of Japan was nothing. They didn't have funds for marketing, and Sonic 2 and 3 sold 200k copies there.
>>
>>10851453
Sonic is lucky it got to take half of Romance of the Three Kingdoms MCXVIII's page.
>>
>>10851453
It's funny how every magazine got the same press kit because I remember those screenshots appearing in several places.
>>
>>10862534
That's how things went back then.
