After many years of dead cart batteries and glitchy roms I am finally playing this and it's every bit as comfy and fun as I expected. On cave of truth and having a blast Anyone else played it?
>>10860275I picked up a copy cheap years back and gave it about an hour before I realized I should have been making maps. Meant to come back someday when I picked up some graph paper. Was pritty gud from what I remember.
The sequel is even better.
>>10860275it's garbage>>10860323this one good but sadly Shiturn emulation sucks
>>10860435>>10860435Replayed it recently on SSF and it was flawless, just like I remember playing it on real hardware
>>10860275>glitchy romsWhat's the issue?
>>10860275i remember my brother played it and mapped everything out on graph paper. i remember absolutely nothing about the game, except the epic final moment he had. facing the final boss, everyone in his party is dead except for one last person. they are going to die to the next hit. i feel like he knew the final boss's health or something, because before he even attacked he said "i need a critical hit, or its not going to kill him, and he's just going to kill me next turn." he takes a deep breath and locks in his final turn. CRITICAL HIT. final boss defeated. shit was pretty epic.
>>10860526It's been a number of years now since I bothered with it, but I think there was a glitch with it not giving the tiara near the beginning or something like that where I could only get so far and then locked out. There was so much other stuff to play I didn't worry too much about digging for another rom. >>10860302>>10860665Part of what I'm really enjoying about it so far is that I haven't needed to make any maps. The levels are fairly small and there are enough markers like sconces, puddles etc that just paying attention to where I'm going it's easy to keep bearings.
>>10860302>maps>for shitting in the darknessngmi
>>10860275>glitchy romsSo I wasn't the only one who couldn't beat the game because of game's scripting got corrupted and wouldn't let me trigger certain event which would let me get the last item needed to beat the game...
>>10860665I use to get so lost even with maps. Still loved the game. Also hated when I spent a ton of Money on gear and then the shopkeepers woul have an awesome deal item I could no longer afford.
>>10860275*Shining AND the Darkness.
>>10860275>that disneyslop coverDoes the Official Sega Genesis Seal of Quality mean NOTHING!?
>>10860275I never did beat it, but I thought it was pretty kino based on what I played.
So how did you get past the glitchy rom? Was it a bad dump?
>>10861649I'm actually glad the glitch on mine was early in the game. If I got that far and got locked I never would have picked it up again now. >>10862259I didn't get past it, I'm playing it on the Sega collection for Switch. Riding the train for work today so I'm even getting paid to play it.
>>10860841>shitting in the darknessi-isn't that normal? if you turn the lights on then you have to see it
>>10860275I think that game sucked. Mid at best. Just play Phantasy Star 1 or 4 instead
>>10860275It's funny. I hated this game as a kid, but when I tried it again as an adult I had a super comfy time.Too bad about the tie-in manga going nowhere though.
>>10860275holy shit I wanna kiss her so fucking bad
>>10860275>dark sol: "I'm not touching the hero! I'm not touching the hero!">hero: taking it like a bitch>pinko: *glitter attack!*>other dudes: staring angrily but unwilling to get involved>princess: can't stop staring at chad sol's chiseled physique
>>10864945King looks like he has money riding on Dark Sol
>>10864837>holy shit I wanna kiss her so fucking badThat's Greg Martin's artwork. Sega hired him for more than just the US Sonic box art. His style could be a little wonky in some instances, but he was an industry professional artist. I always felt that his Looney Tunes artwork was some of the best of the promotional stuff for the time.
>>10864989Those all look like ass.
>>10864991>Those all look like ass.The Taz art looks great, if you ask me. The characters are how they should look. The Flintstones art is on-point as well. Greg Martin did a lot of work for WB, Disney and HB back in the day for VHS tape box art, as well as game box art. I think the Tim gal art is pretty cool, but can't quite make up its mind on what style it is. Greg Martin has his own Sonic design, at least he stays consistent. he also did the art for Landstalker's NA cover. Which I am not a big fan of.
>>10864998Anon that looks absolutely terrible.
>>10864989thanks dude>>10864991they're fuckin' brilliant mate piss off
>>10865000that's why he said he's not a big fan of because it's not his best work you fuckin' procrastinator
>>10865004>he
>>10865006LONDONONDON
>>10865004>that's why he said he's not a big fan of because it's not his best work you fuckin' procrastinatorI think Greg martin is an interesting artist, because he did so much mainstream work that people will recognise, but nobody will actually know it was done by the same person. I feel like his strongest point was anything involving cartoon characters. Most notably Looney Tunes. But his Disney art was strong too, as well as his Hanna Barberra related work. I think he got into video game box art through Disney or something, as Disney was really strict about their character branding and wanted consistent art across all media. Gregs Duck Tales box art looks really good. But when he tries to westernize a Japanese art style, it ends up with at bit of a mixed bag at times. It just amazes me how much of the video game industry in the 90's relied on his artwork. I know he loves to do 'same face' Sonic. But that was part of the branding, by keeping Sonic in the same silhouette that people can recognise, and it works.
>>10863016>not reaching behind you to flush and then getting up and running before you get splashed
>>10860275very comfy game, played it a few years ago right when covid started. Actually killed the final boss with like 25 hp left on the hero and the other party members dead, couldn't believe it lol
>>10867723getting splashed is the fun part, haven't you ever been to seaworld
>>10867736>haven't you ever been to seaworldno
>>10867724>killed the final boss with like 25 hp left on the hero and the other party members deadwoah that's crazy well now I gotta play this, hope the game isn't too long
>>10868393He's just bad, Dark Sol is a pushover.
>>10864989The Tunes and Flintstones are pretty one.Time Gal cute.
>>10868410yeah I don't think I was a very high levelit was a hype moment though
>and then dark sol said "stop zapping yourself", but he couldn't, for dark sol was zapping him with his own hands
I just played through this recently. It's essentially a polished dungeon crawler done in the DQ style. It's not amazing, but it's pretty good. You don't need to map stuff out yourself, but you might want to. The dungeons aren't complicated, but the encounter rate is really quite high.
>>10868916Yeah, I found it pretty fun. It knows what it wants to be and does it well.
>>10860275It seemed alright, this was the first time I've played a first person dungeon crawler. I had more fun drawing a map than actually fighting though...
>>10865006>has
>>10860275i really like first person dungeon crawlers so i think this is up my alley i also like SRPGs so i'm thinkin i'll enjoy shining forcethanks for reading my blogpost
>>10862020Was this any good?
>>10860275It has its flaws, but that game and its sequel were peak soul.
I played the sequel a lot, it was very relaxing, even with its high encounter rate and that south shrine puzzle that filtered me for weeks.
Please stop calling it by its bastardized gaijin name and refer to it by its God-given Japanese title the way the developers intended - Shining and the Darkness.
>>10860275not much competition in the console dungeon crawler arenastill p good thoif you want another one thats even more obscure try maze of fate for GBA
>>10870490you a lightening force fan too?
>>10869604>shining forceshining force is GOATits FE if FE didnt feel the need to waste your fucking timeand i say that as someone who kinda likes FE
