You know, for a retro board, we rarely talk about something that was a staple of retro multimedia: desktop customization.Sure, people still use wallpapers for their phones, or as background pics for their whatsapp chats, i guess... But remember when actually customizing your PC desktop was an art? Wallpapers, screensavers, clocks, icons, sounds, clendars, sitting dolls and more. They were especially popular in Japan. While the west had some official screensavers released (I remember my aunt having some Disney ones back in the mid 90s), most of it was fan-made unofficial stuff, while japanese had a lot of official desktop themes for a lot of franchises. Here's something I didn't know existed, one for Wonder Project J2.I guess nowadays not many people care about them because barely anyone uses desktop PCs anymore and most of those old CD-ROM are for 32bit windows so they don't even work on modern PCs.Just vestiges of an old transitional world.
>>10870993Ok anon, I'll change my computer wallpaper if you teach me how.
>>10871010Jesus man, just get an IBM compatible
>>10871012Can it dial into a BBS?
>>10870993I feel that too. I remember there were all sorts of fun Winamp skins. Users can create their own layouts for programs, and there's less blandening of all sorts of aesthetics. I guess the tradeoff is that we're more productive now in general instead of taking time to make some art for personalization.Phones are pretty much the device of choice over PCs now. So for personalization, once my Xperia Play no longer registered power button presses, I went with a Chinese phone that has a bootleg Naruto theme: https://youtube.com/shorts/cfTF3tsPleo
>he doesnt have dozens of backgrounds/screensavers with the After Dark softwarecouldnt be me

I remember the pc version of MegaMan X5 came with a bunch of stuff. The one I recall the most was I think a boot up screen when you turn on your pc that brings up a screen that states the OS you are running is "Windows 20XX".
>>10871030>VEGETALIZERI’ve kek’d
>>10870993So much of that shit was spyware probably, it was no surprise reformatting the computer was nearly a monthly routine
>>10871028>Kakyuusei and Takei Masaki screen saversare you a secret Elf fan, marble table anon?
this belongs in /g/and the japanese garbage posters belong in /jp/
>>10872113You belong in /kys/
>>10871030I remember even other media players at the time were touting skins as well. Features like being able to have different layouts/shapes for various media controls to adapt for different designs. Still remember when .mp2 was briefly the audio format before I fully dived into the .mp3 format as it was the latest and greatest.>>10872085Are you the anon with the full bookshelf of R18 games that I am jealous of? It is no secret I am a huge fan of Elf, Leaf, Aquaplus, etc. in those days. I remember in the late 90s, they were converting their old high-res 16 color pixel art to windows full 256 color games, yet still preferring the latter. Elf games had the characters which appealed so much to me in those days.
>>10871029These aint that obscure
Does anyone know if the ToHeart2 Desktop Accessories includes the hidden games on it from the main game? I know sometimes they include those as extras in utility collections like this.

At the time I really liked the color upgrade compared to screenshots of the originals, but these days I have a newfound appreciation for the 16-color PC-98 work.I still like voice acting though.>Elf games had the characters which appealed so much to me in those days.I'm going to marry Suzuki Miho!

>>10870993Probably because this is a retro games board not a retro multimedia board.
