Yeah, the hitboxes in this port are fucked. It's especially notable at the beginning of the second stage with the rock monsters, some that should logically hit don't and viceversa.
It also introduced the infamous sword softlock that wasn't in the original.

Not everyone can be a hobo who lives in the dumpster behind the arcade and stole a set of keys so they could get in and open the coin doors and tap up credits any time they want.
But I've got to say, I'm impressed that a junkie so addicted to video games (and presumably many other things) has such high standards and is so committed that he chose that lifestyle for the last 35 years simply to avoid having to play inferior console ports.

In j version last level is easier, less devils, one unicorn. Bosses have much easier moveste and 4 hp, not 8.
American arcade is broken, almost unreal complete it.
