What are the best 3D platformers for the Saturn? All anyone talks about is Croc and the penguin game for babies.
>>10883187Not many platformers on it, especially 3D. Tomb Raider if you count that but that's a genre better represented on other consoles.
>>10883187Burning Rangers counts, right?
>>10883195Yeah it has some really nice movement. Shame there was never another game like it.
It's willy wombat. It's always been willy wombat. Everything else is just a lie. If you want to have fun with this kind of game on Saturn, it's time to play willy wombat
It’s not really the platform for that. Speaking as a Saturn fan.
Just go play willy wombat then come back and tell me any of that other shit is better
>>10883205>>10883213Came here to say this
Lupin III
>>10883187Play Dreamcast instead
>>10883187>the penguin game for babieswtf? lol!I had to look it up.NinPen Manmaru
>>10883408this game looks really good but the controls are so-so. overall it's fine
bug too
>willy wombatFuck this game. It's impossible to get your bearings and gauge distances and the placement of traps and enemies unless you constantly move the camera; but now the traps are starting to get so close to each other and so fast you don't even have time to do that
>>10883787I believe in you anon trust in your dreams and in the heart of the cards and you can do anything
Half of the time there is some shit blocking your view too and restricting your camera use
>>10883187As someone who likes the Saturn, its lineup of 3D platformers is a joke, and it really doesn't have anything resembling an answer to the likes of Crash or Mario, especially because the PS1 and N64 simply went on longer got to advance the genre with stuff such as Banjo and Ape Escape. That genre isn't the Saturn's strong suit.
As a kid I loved exploring the Nights levels on foot. So this gets my vote.
You guys need to understand that there is a huge divide in 3D games made before and after Mario 64. PS1 and Saturn just really are not built to play serious 3D games. The PS1 slightly overcame that by developer willpower, the Saturn absolutely did not. The Saturn is a "3D" system, in the same way that the Atari Jaguar is. Capable of doing basic polygon visuals? Yes. Capable of doing post-Super Mario 64 3D worlds or PS1-tier stuff? No.
>>10883836This is why it's just better to upgrade to Dreamcast. You've got Sonic Adventure, Jet Set Radio, Rayman 2, Spider-Man, Tony Hawk games, Super Magnetic Neo, and more. All major games the Saturn missed out on. Saturn is really just more of a fun curiosity.
>>10883952>Saturn is really just more of a fun curiosity.thank you for bringing the scrimblo bimblo perspective to this thread
>>10883187This isn't Saturn's best genre, just like N64 isn't good with RPGs or arcade games.
>>10885129What is the Saturns best genre? Arcade ports?
>>10885142RPGs and arcade games, I suppose.
>>108851422D shooters, the absolute peak platform for themSega racers2D fighting Sega 3D fightersRPGs and strategy Mecha gamesLate-era pre-mobile puzzle games Dating sims and visual novels Cute girl mahjong Lots of arcade-style action and compilations.
>>10883459FUCK no
>>10885173add:3d fighiting2d fightinglight gun gamesracing/driving gamesaction/adventure gamessports games
>>10883454I dunno, the controls seem fine for a character without legs
>>10885129It isn't, but it does have some saving graces like Ogre Battle, Paper Mario, Star Fox, and Sin & Punishment. But Saturn doesn't have a truly standout 3D platformer, no "saving grace" for that genre. Maybe Croc? Or Sonic R, if you really want to stretch it. They should've just cancelled that game, tweaked the handling, and made a 3D Sonic game with its engine.
>>10883187>own THE platformer rival to mario >make an acid trip jester game
It pleases me to see the cult of Willy growing its ranks.
>>10885197tell me you haven't played bug too without telling me you haven't played bug too.
>>10883787You gotta slow down at points. It's like a mix of Crash Bandicoot and Gauntlet.
Steam Gear Mash is isometric platformy.
You memed me into playing this shit, I swear to god if Bug is just as bad I'll never listen to another Saturn rec again
>>10886574Bug is bad and so is Willy Wombat. Either that or scrimblo fans are desperate
>>10886574It's good, not Mario 64 or Spyro good, but that's a solid ass game. Bug isn't even close to being on the same level, at least not the first one. To be fair I still need to try Too
>>10883187there is the game tempo,arcade gears vol 3,rockman 8,rockman X_3 (has anime movies),rayman,castlevania.
The 3D world in Sonic Jam.
>>10886574make sure you play Bug Too and not the first one (Bug). first one is really bad, Bug Too is great.
Tomb Raider Burning RangersBulk Slash
>>10886581>Bug is badObjectively incorrect.
>>10889018oh that looks super scientific
>>10885523aidyn chronicles is good
>>10888873There's no reason why sega couldn't have turned this into a full game. Frame rate would have probably been burning rangers tier but still.
I finally got one of those Hudson s-bom controllers to look into whatever the hell this does
Well it turns out you don't need a Hudson controller to interact with the Hu things. I think they appear in all past levels when you beat the game. OR they appear in a level after you've collected everything else there. When you collect a Hu pickup, it puts a red flagpole by the level on the select screen, probably marking the level as having been fully completely. The one in the past pic is from level 1 in the room with all of the powerups you've unlocked. You reach it by hitting the yellow switch at the end of the level and backtracking. There's also a little easter egg at the end of the path behind the Hu pickup. The pic on this post is from level 2. Anyways, I guess it's an excuse to play more willy wombat
>>10883187Pandeminium
>>10883278Didn't know about this one. I'll have to try it out!
