It ruined a generation of PS1 games.

>FPS games without proper look controls
>Platformers that force you to use L1/R1 to strafe the camera left or right or to rely on the "automatic camera"

Why couldn't SONY have been innovative and just done the Dualshock first?

That would have put the cart before the horse. Games that needed an analog stick for character movement didn’t exist in 1994. Specialized controllers existed for racers and flight games. In 1994 developers were just starting to figure out what to do with 3D.
>ruined
Actually, please leave.

You're ruined beyond repair with such low quality threads.

the N64 controller and the nub was not invented yet
they could not steal it yet

Maybe Sony should've been more forward-thinking then?
>>
The PS single didn't have many fps games though. Nice thread bro.

Why should they have been? The PS1 mogged all competition that gen, sold more than everything else combined I think.
The better question is why did Nintendo stubbornly stick to the three-handed controller with only one stick after the DS1 proved a normal controller with two sticks was the way to go?

Like you? Could you have been more forward-thinking?

medal of honor worked just fine with my ps one dualshock.
i have never actually seen a playstation controller WITHOUT analog sticks irl.
i knew they existed only because of this icon in the bottom right of the micromachines v3 case
i grew up playing stuff like ape escape, and as far as i'm concerned, the ps1 is synonymous with dual analog controls.
yes i was poor and i was only able to buy one in 2000

>kids react
Talk about a ruined generation

Given the choice I'll almost always use d-pad, even in 3D games, and even in racing games. Analog gaming is for zoomers

The PS1 ruined an entire generation of nintendies
>>
No one cared about FPS on a console
>>
>>10883389
Doom and Doom "clones" work perfectly fine with the digital pad. Only FPS that require looking up/down benefit from the dualshock.
>>
>>10883389
I hate to break it to you but FPS existed long before the PS1
>>
>>10883778
>he only owned one console
>he probably still owns only one console
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA imagine locking yourself out of entire libraries of games during the best generations of gaming.
>>
>>10884156
I don't see anything wrong with that, you focus on the one console you know best and emulate anything else.

>>10883389
I'm glad they didn't start out with a dualshock, that way at least we got plenty of unique games.
Say what you want but I would rather people experiment with the analog sticks like in Ape Escape, Monster Hunter 1 or Wonderful 101 instead of relying on the same analog control scheme for every single 3D game
>>
>>10883401
That's nonsense, 3do, Jaguar and other 3d platforms already existed and had major issues with controlling it.
Then there are joystick games in arcades, pc, much older consoles, 3rd party controllers for current consoles, etc.
It was all already there, they just simply didn't think to make it the standard.
>>
>>10885162
Name games that used an analog joystick before PS1 that weren’t some kind of flight or driving game.
>>
>>10883389
>Why couldn't SONY have been innovative and just done the Dualshock
Because it was a cheap on the run answer for an actual innovation from someone else. I hate the DUALs even more than the digitals.
>>
>why couldn’t Sony just predict the future of game development in a rapidly changing market??
Somebody had to bring viable 3D hardware to market so developers could be creative, while another hardware manufacturer sat back for two years and learned from everybody else’s mistakes and designed their controller around one game.
