Should i buy a PSX Fat or Slim?
>>
>>10884785
Slim is more reliable and cuter.
>>
>>10884791
My slim is no longer reading discs after a few weeks of playing it. Any ideas bros?

tune the potential meter
>>
>>10884802
Put it upside down.

PSones have a more reliable self-calibrating laser. There's a lot of version differences within the PS1, but there are a lot more hardware exploits available, early models can be unreliable in various ways, and most models have all the accessory ports if you ever want to use them.

I grew up with the original but got a PSOne recently and it is indeed cute and saves space. The real answer though is neither when PS Classic and other options exist

I have heard that the PSOne does have slightly sharper image quality. It also has the screen attachment if you can get it for a good price. Also good if your setup is compact and you need space it's a good choice ignoring the external power supply.
All that being said I use the original 7501 model because I enjoy the design way more, and with my upscaler the image is already pretty good over RGB Scart. Also having a dedicated Reset button on the original model is really nice.
>>
I never liked the PsOne, not even back in the day. It's too damn light, any minor yank from the controller and the thing flies across the room.
>>
>>10884785
It's called a P.S. One
>>
God the PSOne is the most aesthetic console
>>
>>10884802
my psone is doing this, almost. i get it to read discs after like 30 times trying (turning it on/off over and over). i expect soon it'll stop entirely.

PS2 to play PS1 games and PS2 games
>>
>>10884785
depends on how you plan to use it
get a 5000 fat one if you plan to use an ODE
Get a PSOne if you plan to play actual discs
>>
>>10884785
I hate that you called it that.
>>
Avoid fats with the parallel port as those are early production models and had some reliability issues especially heat buildup from the power supply.

Another option is the PSP. Easy to mod and install PS1 games. The PSP 2001-3000 models can be connected to CRTs. I haven't tried component cables but with composite I can get full display. Sucks for actual PSP games since PSP games dont use the full screen. This also happens while trying to run emulators on the PSP such as SNES.

This is how PSP games are displayed over composite.

Clean the lens with a Q-tip with alcohol and tweak the potential meter slightly and keep testing it between tweaks. Can also put a dab of oil/grease on some of the moving parts if you feel it's having a hard time moving the laser back and forth. Doing all this will fix most drives.

If all else fails China makes brand new laser drives for all PS1 models on ebay.

PSOne has more soul
>>
>>10884802
I dont think there are Xstation kits for the Psone model right?

I presume the PSOne are sold at reasonable prices? I would love to own one.
>>
>>10884785
No, you shouldn't. There's better ways to play PS1 games, not that any should be played by anyone.
>>
>>10886271
>But PSP doesnt output 240p right?
I think it might display out in 240p. Im not 100% sure but it might be the only reason why it displays in full screen.
>And SFA3MAX doesnt play at 4:3 i bet?
Nope, same thing happens with emulators. Once a PSP game launches the resolution is hard set to 16:9.
>>
>>10884785
PS3 or Vita if you're not autistic.
5000 model PS1 otherwise.
>>
>>10884785
PS2 is genuinely the best option, but the PSOne is slightly better than the PS1, if you have to have the original.

Really just go with whatever you like the look of more.
>>
>>10886275
Depends what you mean by reasonable. They are more expensive than some fat ps1s, and less expensive than others. On ebay they generally seem to go for around the 60-80 dollar mark. Less if they are in bad cosmetic shape.
>>
>>10884785
If you're looking to do any sort of mods to it, get a 550X. Modchips, cheat carts, ODEs etc.
If you just wanna play your regular retail releases then it doesn't really matter as long as you're getting at least a 550X or newer. 110X are not worth getting as they're unreliable due to some design issues.
If you're looking to play legit retail games including imports but don't wanna deal with modding your system or dealing with anti-modchip codes then get a MechaPWN compatible PS2.
Be aware that the PSOne has an external power supply so check if the one you're buying comes with it. Composite and s-video cables are identical from PS1 to PS3. RGB cables are mildly different between PS1 and PS2 but it'll still work on either one (PS2 cable on PS1 results in a slightly dark image).

This is how the PSP outputs non-PSX content, according to the official SDK. I don't know what exactly it does to PSX games but they take full height on a 16:9 TV (and look great).
>>
>>10886271
>>10886004
PSX games on PSP do output to native 240p via video-out. It's an excellent way to play PSX games
>>
>>10884785
The slim is likely newer, which means the drive isn't as worn out.
>>
>>10886263
I believe they meant potentiometer
>>
>>10886271
can the psp be tinkered with to do more than output ps1 games on a tv? does it work on lcd tvs and monitors?
>>
>>10884785
just emulate it. you get save states.
