For windows is there anything that I can turn on that will just put a CRT effect over EVERYTHING without having to configure it for each thing. I emulate a lot of retro games and play a lot of steam games, and just want something to toggle on for specific games when I feel like it. I have tried to google search this a few times and it's too specific. Like I know you can "use retroarch" for things, but I don't have the slightest idea if it can do what I'm asking and how.
>>
>>11045153
Just learn how to use RetroArch and download sonkun's crt presets.

by using retroarch

I'm still stuck in 2000's for emulation

yes this is what i wanted thank you.

>>
>>11045164
nta but i tried that for this purpose and don't know a way (if it's even possible) to have the shader itself render at the monitor's native resolution instead of the game's. i like playing older pc games at period-appropriate resolutions so don't just tell me to change the game resolution
>>
>>11047056
>i like playing older pc games at period-appropriate resolutions
Just don't use CRT shaders with PC games. Games for CRT monitors don't need shaders anyway.
>>
>>11047501
What? The ones running in 320x200 certainly do.
>>
>>11047518
maybe if you want to emulate a cga or ega monitor. But with vga, 320x200 was line-doubled to 640x400.
>>
>240p content
Basic crt shader, light scanlines, no mask. A bit of color correction.
>480i and above
Just a sharp-bilinear to avoid using integer scaling.

he kind of reminds me of that stupid younger brother with overly christian right wing parents who think he's going down a dark path for liking minecraft

Have you seen the kind of shit they post on youtube kids related to minecraft? Makes a satanic orgy look normal, and sometimes it even shows up on the main page

>chantard can't grasp the concept of a guy having kids or having friends who have kids who play youtube videos on their tablet or whatever near them
lmao dude wake up
>>
>>11047543
holy shit! that explains it
I've been wondering about this for 20 years, but I don't have a crt monitor to test it
I remembered pixels in dos games being very obvious, unlike the pixels in console games at the time
I don't even remember there being scanlines at all, just solid blocks of squares
I thought maybe it was because it was a better connection. obviously vga was better than the rf signal, but even later consoles with better cables never got near the sharpness of a computer monitor
or maybe my memory was wrong
but that makes so much more sense
I guess I don't need a crt filter for old dos games, after all
thanks, anon
>>
>>11047543
and a average 14 inch VGA CRT monitor from that period didn't look anything like a 21+ inch LCD today displaying said line doubled 320x200
>>
>>11049560
I had a CRT monitor a while back and the shadow mask is just really fine, smaller than the resolution it was designed for. it was meant to read text on it, after all.
>>
>>11045153
Sounds to me like reshade is your best bet
https://github.com/akgunter/crt-royale-reshade
>>
>>11049563
It looks close enough that fiddling with a shader to replicate line doubling is way past the point of diminishing returns.
>>
>>11048168
You're in a CRT shader thread on /vr/ complaining about minecraft and "satanic orgies"(??). You don't have kids OR friends.

Not op, I tried it some time ago and it's more complicated compared to shaderglass. Nonetheless is a worthy solution and you can add any shader you want, cotrary to shaderglass where you can use only the ones embedded in the code.

You weren't kidding, I feel like this changes everything. There was always something missing in retro games for me, now I get it. Doesn't look great in this screenshot, but this CRT effect really brings the graphics together. No more highlighting each and every pixel or jagged edge.

I used composite cables and the standard composite shader. It's not perfect but it's pretty close.
>>
>>11049560
You’ll definitely need a shader for older DOS games, it’s the later ones where you might not need it. Lots of EGA games made extensive use of dithering and we’re designed around CRTs blending the pixels. I saw an inferview where Mark Ferrari explains it in detail.
>>
>>11045168

just get a ruler and a sharpie and draw lines on your screen
>>
fuck that shit. interpolation and gamma dorrection is all you need
>>
Nobody has actually told you a real answer, The thing you are looking for is a program called reshade. Its a shader program that can run on any game and there are good CRT effects for it.

Make your own Preset on reshade and call it a day, Guest's package became the Go 2 these days since Configuring the new included royale is a pain in the dick.
But i suggest ditching the CRT look and embrace Hi Res using CRT Shaders as base to get rid of the fullbright and dithering caused by modern screens.

Stop being a bunch of faggotronic pixel morons and use a shader that Emulates proper Shadowmask pefectly, i had 3 SVGA Screens and all DOS and 3d in it were smooth and Sharp.
DOS GAMES USES CRT, but they all use Shadowmask since it was the standard at that time.

As for 3dfx games, is >pic

Archimedian Dynasty aka the prequel of the aquanox game series.

Forgot that it is the german name, still a neat game anda very underrated one, unironically the first Aqua music CD had a interactive menu based on this game.
