people shit on it but I loved sacred stones. iirc it had a map between chapters to navigate and you could buy/sell items etc. I think you can do two paths too and do an Erika game and Ephraim with different battles and story.

Binding blade was really good too but I got hung up on one of the final chapters with fog of war and gave up after restarting the map 10+times since I fucking suck with permadeath. I was also on a GBA SP with a primitive flash cart so I can imagine save states would make it better. There's no map system so you just move from chapter to chapter.

There's a 3rd one but I can't remember. blazing blade? didn't get released in the states but there's translations.

don't gatekeep because of shitty mechanics. it's hard as fuck, that doesnt mean it's better because of that. I'm not trying to beat a chess master I just want to kill shit and level up. The early games are good but are RNG heavy and if you get fucked by bad growth and deaths mid playthrough you...restart the game. Which sucks ass. There are also a shit ton of random paralogues and side stories and I have no idea how to unlock them.

VF has good animations but I've always liked Lion's in particular. Especially the upkicks. The mantis style alone makes him stand out with how he holds his hands

Blazing Blade was the one the US got (it was simply called "Fire Emblem"). Binding Blade is the one that to date is Japan-only.
