is it worth getting a gamecube nowadays?

That's on you, bud. Are you planning on buying OG discs for it or just hacking it to play off an SD card? If the latter, might as well just get a hacked Wii or Wii U (not the model pictured though) and use the app Nintendont to play Gamecube games. (it's the same architecture so Wii/Us play Gamecube games 1:1).
>>
emulate it and buy the controller
>>
Nope, Wii is the superior way to play GC games.
And a used Wii is usually cheaper than a used GC too.
>>
>>11107717
You can hack a Wii Mini since a few years ago.
>>
>>11107713
If you want it to look good on a shelf, then I guess so.
A Wii does everything a gamecube does and more though and it's probably cheaper.
>>
>>11107713
Yeah, it's a nice decoration, especially orange spice.

also handy for doing speedruns with Game Boy Player. That's the only way to play two GB/GBC/GBA games at the same time with one controller and original hardware.
>>
>>11107725
Yeah but it's a giant pain in the ass(iirc intermediate soldering skill level) and WiiMinis go for more because they're rarer...more rare. Whatever.
>>
>>11107713
You can buy Wiis for peanuts and they'll natively play Gamecube ISOs of a USB stick. What do you think?
>>
>>11107746
probably best just to get a wii then, how is the image quality for gamecube games though
>>
>>11107753
Great and you can even disable the flicker filter with a simple GUI setting. But if you're really worried about picture quality then I would use Dolphin over either console
>>
>>11107713
Hasn't been since Wii
>>
>>11107718
This but for every console
>>
its one good game is on every other platform
>>
>>11107713
Yeah, it still has a nice design and startup animation, plus Game Boy Player.
>>
>>11107713
If you like wasting your money, then sure
>>
I'd say so, especially since it's a console that people like and it's unlikely prices will go down anytime soon.
I personally use a Wii but I miss my original black GC. Also I remember having trouble disc-swapping on Wii.
>>
>>11107713
No, not in the slightest. Use a Wii with Nintendont.
>>
>>11107713
If you want the gba player features then yes. It's my preferred way to play gba and other game boy games. Otherwise, you can do all the gamecubr stuff using a Wii. Hell it's cheaper because the Wii only needs a softmod to pirate games, the gamecube needs an actual ODE if you want games to load and run properly.
>>
>>11107713
No. Like almost everyone else said, a Wii is a better investment.

The Wii:
>is cheaper / more common
>natively plays GameCube disks
>can be easily hacked
>has a massive library, especially when hacked
The GameCube isn’t worth dealing with the retro game market, and it isn’t as trivial to hack as the Wii. If you want the Cube for nostalgia or whatever, go for it. But do so knowing that it’s not for practicality.

I’m scoping out a few GameCube games, but it’s really low on my priority list. I wouldn’t bother at all if I didn’t have my old (working) Cube + a solid library of games. With the absolute state of retro game prices, there are still a handful of notable games I’ll never own physically.
>>
>all these people saying Wii
But having a cube shaped console is SOVLLLLLLLLLLL
>>
>>11108581
Buy 4 Wiis and tape them together to make a WiiCube.
>>
>>11108581
It’s a neat novelty, for sure, but that’s (almost) all it is these days. I guess you could justify picking one up if you really wanted to play GBA on a tv (and could get the GBA player + disk for cheap).
>>
>>11107718
>>11108207
I did this with the N64 and ended up getting sick of the emulation quirks and bought the real thing instead.
>>
Anyone saying the Wii is superior for GC games is an absolute ape and should shut the fuck up. Gamecube library is also ass, but you should just get one because they're cheap and the mods are good and cheap and easy. The only expensive part is video output upgrades but that doesn't matter that much.
>>
>>11108615
>you should just get one because they're cheap
>>
>>11108604
You don't need a disc. Learn to mod your consoles, retard. I'm so tired of uninformed people giving awful advice everywhere on this board.
>>
>>11108617
Yeah and because the Wii is dogshit. If you want a Gamecube you buy a Gamecube.
>>
>>11108621
GameCubes aren't cheap
>>
>>11108625
Where? In Brazil? How much does an average condition one cost around you? I just imported a mint Japanese one with the game boy player for like a hundred bucks. That's cheap. I've seen Americans brag getting a GC for no more than 20 bucks allover the place.
>>
>>11108629
Yes, Brasil my friend. The Cubes used to be numerous in the days, but everyone threw them away because they only care about sex.

Superior, and, Wii can run the games faster in some cases through Nintendon't.
>>
>>11108581
This. And I can't LARP like I'm in 2002 with a wii
>>
>>11107718
This but make sure the controller has analog triggers or the adapter recognizes them.
>>
>>11108621
Having a Wii is great because after you tire of mediocre Nintendo games you can boot up something great like la machine guns and get a good time even on a flat panel screen. And those gamecube games that struggle to run at their target framerate (of which there are many) can be fixed. Plus the video quality meme that has long plagued the scene since mlig made their premature gamecube video has been fixed forever, so there's even less reason than ever to use a gamecube for gamecube games.

>>11108838
But you can play scarface on the wii
>>
>>11108615
>>11108621
I can go on Facebook marketplace right now and see Wiis (controllers included) for 20 Australian dollarydoos. That won't even buy you a fucking Gamecube memory card, let alone a Gamecube controller, let alone the Gamecube itself.

GBA had more/better games in hindsight
>>
>>11109703
Nah, not even almost. Lower quality and quantity of games.
>>
>>11109661
Well damn this is your lesson to secure yours asap before it's too late. Had to learn that the hard way with CRTs.
>>11109653
>boot up something great
On the Wii? Lmao.
>>
It will never be worth it to buy a gaycube
>>
>>11108615
Wiis are cheaper though
Wiis natively support gamecube games and controllers
Wiis are easier and cheaper to hack
You are a retard
>>
>>11109681
Jesus christ someone kill this thing and put it out of its misery.
>>
>>11109779
>On the Wii?
Certainly not on the gamecube my friend
>>
>>11109681
>Sega does what ninte-- ACK
>>
>>11107713
Mostly redundant if you have a Wii and the inferior video output quality can be mitigated with homebrew software. I only use my Gamecube because I still have it alongside an AR disc to boot games from SD2SP2.
>>
Wii is better unless you either
>really want to play real GBA games on a TV
or
>really want HDMI output without having to mod your console
>>
>>11110237
>really want to play real GBA games on a TV
the wii is better for this because you can just put a gba emulator on a usb with a bunch of roms. now you have savestates, cheats, fast forward, etc
>>
>>11110247
>real GBA games
>>
>>11110074
You're wrong, but I refuse to spoonfeed arrogant apes. Enjoy your Wii. Wii? more like Yawn.
>>11110224
The GC has at least 3 great games.
>>11110247

as an autist who randomly alternates between playing games on a CRT with component and a flat screen through an HDMI upscaler, convince me not to get a GCHD MK-II.

I currently only have S-Video cables for my Gamecube.
>>
>>11110517
With the GCHD you can use a Wii RGB cable which is much cheaper than the GC one. If it's a PAL GC it supports RGB out the box though. It's kinda of overpriced for what it is but there really aren't much better alternatives for much cheaper.
>>
>>11110364
>You're wrong
There is literally nowhere in the world where Gmecubes are cheaper than Wiis. Wiis are ubiquitous, people are fucking throwing them away
>>
>>11110565
Didn't ask.
>>
>>11110586
You've made 5 or so retarded posts in this thread bitching about Wiis, and you insist that you didn't ask? Piss off with your Gen Z thought-terminating cliche.
>>
>>11110593
Yes I definitely didn't ask about your pointless cherry picked irrelevant spam reply of some chimp that literally doesn't know and I refuse to spoonfeed due to unwarranted arrogance.
>>
>>11107713
Only if you also use the GB Player. Pointless otherwise.

If you really care about authenticity? Yes. If not, then just emulate, you'll save hundreds of bucks.
>>
>>11107713
Why would you when you can just get an original Wii model for cheaper and load Nintendont onto it to avoid paying retarded prices
>>
>>11111090
>DualSense
>Philips CRT
>RetroArch w/rgui menu
>Most likely CRTSwitchRes
>Sega CD, PC-Engine, GameBoy ColoUr, Amiga...

What a fucking Chad.
>>
>>11107713
Still regret trading my Cube in towards my purchase of my Wii. At the time it felt redundant to hold onto.
>>
>>11107713
Emulation is too good to bother with real hardware.
>>
No buy a Wii and install Homebrew channel better
>>
>>11107713
Yes. A lot of games are expensive, and a lot of the good games, but there are tons of cheap ones that are awesome. Off the top of my head...

>wave race
>007 nightfire
>rogue leader
>monkey ball
>remake
>RE4
>soul calibur 2
>metroid prime

It's still got great graphics, a unique controller and games you won't find anywhere else, or a remade game in it's original form.

I mean it has RE4, SSBM and Metroid Prime, arguably in the contention for being in the very top games of all-time.

And my OG collection from back in the day. Besides 007 and Mario Strikers, I had all these at release. Most of these aren't worth the price now to play unless you're flush with cash, but damn did the GC have a unique set of games compared to the PS2 at the time, which I also had.
