OLED Steam DeckWindows HandheldRetroid 5I'm having a hard time weighing the pros and cons of each. I mean a Retroid would probably do me fine and save me the headache of having to learn Linux plus it wouldn't cost me my first born but I like pc games too, the only reason I'm considering a windows handheld is Gog installers, which can work on the deck but again requires work around that is a headache to set up.

How long can i expect a micro sd card to last if i use it to store roms and nothing else? I've read that excessive writing/erasing can wear it down but does reading from it also degrade it?
here we go with the miyoo sympathizer OP
>>11327130If you can really only have one, the SD is the best choice. I got mine with LCD on day one, and it's been a great machine. I unironically haven't touched my gaming desktop in several years because it's just so convenient taking my deck with me to the living room and either playing it handheld or plugging it up to its dock. But there are two problems. First and foremost, the battery is absolute ass. If you're playing anything recently released, unoptimized, or otherwise with high fidelity, expect the battery life to droop down below 2.5 hours. Even with extremely low spec software, this thing can't go for very long. I played GBA games on a flight a few hours back, and the thing legit died after six hours. The other problem is that the SD is way too big to comfortably hold for longer sessions. I've got big hands and muscular forearms too, so don't buy the "manlet" cope. Anybody would get tired of holding this thing after a couple hours. But maybe that doesn't matter to you. It mattered enough to me to get two other devices:>RG35XXSPFor GBA specifically, and>Retroid Pocket MiniFor any and all emulation PS2 and below.I'm happy with the devices I've got. Again, if you can only have one, the SD is the best choice, but if 99% of your playtime is gonna be emulating PS2 and below while handling the device itself on the couch, then you might end up wishing you had something lighter.
>>11327679if you buy a new one and dont use the sd card that comes with the unit you get, you shouldn't have much of any problems
picrel + an android phone/small tabletlet me guess, you need more?
>>11327683not OP and don't own or care about miyoo but do you just assume only one person shills for the MMP on here? it's quite literally the most popular emulation handheld and is still getting recommended basically everywhere except this board, and that's really only because everyone here is a contrarian friendless goon who can't be happy without getting a few extra games runnable on a device they're hardly gonna use. To be honest, if you have more than one or two of these scam handhelds, you're just as cringe as the miyoo brainlets.
>>11327696I need less

>>11328349TBQH anon, I purchased the thing knowing full well it didn't have a joystick with the intent of only playing games that needed a d-pad. I also bought one for my 8yo nephew and he's having a blast with it.Yes, I have had to doctor a few games to get them running properly (PSP Final Fantasy 25th anniversary comes to mind to get the map screen to work), but most play "straight out of the box" and that was all I expected from a $US60 unit. With the plethora of devices currently on the market I'm going to sit on the fence until a decent linux unit with joysticks arrives that can play gc games without a hitch.
>>11328252I’d daily drive the TSP, if it weren’t for the fact that pressing A in the simplified menu (which also appears whenever you put the game to sleep) also presses A in-game, constantly accepting menu options or unpausing when I didn’t mean to. I’m shocked they haven’t fixed that by now.

Might accidentally end up copping a deck on impulse today and not sure how to feel about it.Been on the fence for a bit but 6th gen and PC titles from that era have been living rent free in my mind for a while. So my question for deck owners: How is it for swapping SD cards? Not today but tomorrow; complications in the process and all.Felt alright, wasn't too heavy or too big, screen looked to be a good size too but I'll see how it is in action at home first, was worried it would be too big or chonky.I still think it was a mistake for Valve to not sell it in stores too. I know maybe younger people may not get it idk but demo units are good at letting you have a little try. You can go to a department/electronics store and try a camera, you see a TV before you buy it, games consoles used to be the same, they were setup at booths in games/toy stores. What the fuck were they thinking, I can go out and check out something like the ally that doesn't suit me but not the deck? >>11331089> refocus efforts on making the perfect daily driverBecause it hurts sales in the long term.Having a perfect build for its price point means all other builds that do not meet it (not just yours, everyone else's) HAVE to drop prices or they won't sell period. This will also upset everyone else, starting a race to the bottom: they will copy your design, and try and optimize/cheap out on it to undercut you, until a product that meets 90~95% of the capabilities of the original "perfect daily driver" is released at a fraction of its price, and becomes the new "floor" by which all other newly released shithelds at this discounted price are measured - see the R36S and SF2000. This is good for users but bad for profits in the short term - this process of "opshittimization" also costs time and money, and companies are lazy to do it unless pressured. The process that pressured at least the R36S was the RGB20S, which while not perfect by any objective measure, tiktok retards made it look like it was.

Base Odin 2 is selling for $300 retail, and its competitor in the form of the Ayaneo Pocket EVO is selling its base unit at $389. And since their device also has a glass front and a 7" high refresh rate OLED panel, it wont be cheap either.
>>11333653*a gamepad Although most chinkhelds don't detect gameplay since most people tinker with theirs to make sure it works then buy the next one.
>>11327130I recommend the steam deck. The OLED has a bit better battery life than the LCD. I've had the 256gb LCD model for years now and I use it all the time for emulating and PC gaming. It's comically huge though.

>>11328005>almost perfectlyLuv me 4 Pro but I have to say it won't do it all, still never got Nightshade on PS2 to play at a playable framerate.

I'm thinking of getting my first handheld. Would an RP2S be too powerful for playing up to PS1 and N64?
>>11333736It mostly goes up to DC and N64, maybe some Saturn. It's not "too powerful" unless you only want like GBA and below.
>>11331687 >Do you have the script around?Unfortunately, there's no global script to set cpufreq to ondemand (and tell games to use it). You need to manually edit every one (in some cases add them to the folder) in the Emus section. And edit some of the launch.sh scripts as well, some don't look for the cpufreq script by default. There's also a github around with info about scaling governors for the TSP, and how they function. I think some anon posted a link in one of the older threads.
>>11332518>The sticks are SUPER shit though Which is ironic, since they're pretty much the same sticks as on the Vita 2000. They do have dodgy input polling out of the box, though; there's a mod which installs a polling rate change tool in system options, seems to make them register fine inputs better.
>>11333784Vita 2k used differnet sticks than 1k? That might have been why I was so surprised. The 1k's sticks aren't the best, but the smart pro's feel worse than a slider. Because how recessed they are, they even have worse rang ethan sliders.
can someone help me make general 'tiers' of emulation difficulty? Everything in the same tier should be equally hard to runSo far I have>1 gb/gbc/nes/ms>2 genesis, snes, GBA>3 DS, PS1>4 PSP, Dreamcast, N64>5 saturn, gamecube(?)>6 PS2?
>>11333754Thanks. Is the Metal Version worth it?
>>11333850No offense but I don't see it catching on, people just refer to console gens or specific systems as an upper limit of a chinkheld. Anyway I'd put Wii and low end Switch in 6, maybe 3DS in 5.>>11333853Don't know but it might cool down faster in moderate/cool environments compared to the plastic one. PS1 for over an hour will start to heat it up and it will happen faster on more taxing systems or when connected to tv, you can check its temp with your finger under the left trigger. When it gets uncomfortably warm, put it to sleep and set it aside somewhere relatively open to air out.

First day with the deck went well enough, helped that I already had backups of most games so installing was alright but still took a while.Tried some 6th gen stuff on it and it wasn't too small, wasn't too big but GBA was pushing it a bit.I have one gripe so far, if you're online on one device like your PC and in game, it won't let you launch a steam title, so Denuvo'd games need a first run, games with online launchers are a no go too but emu and other games will still work.Needing to go to offline mode is kinda shit and the above are still issues. Seen some shills defending it to the death which was weird, more cringe than the usual valve haters. There's a couple other minor things. I definitely have the vanilla deck experience since I don't have a dock yet.One USB C port is shit, I had to charge the device at the same time as setting up so it was that or use the keyboard so I could enable SSH and install a remote desktop client. The onscreen keyboard is jank as fuck, I used fractional scaling to get to 125%, sensible enough yeah, go to use the onscreen keyboard and that's scaled beyond the device. Nice, had to reboot. Not being able to suspend & download in background makes sense because it IS just a PC, not a console/custom OS/chipset, it's going into standby, but like, they could had like two modes where you hold to go into standby and a low power, screen off mode so it can finish downloads, the solution is to go into desktop mode, set a timer for 1 min inactivity then reboot back into game mode after, that's terrible and you're relying entirely on linux to not boost clock speeds during the time. The battery system seems okay, or at least with a plugin, you can manually set the charge mode, charge cutoff etc so you should be able to use it docked 24/7 with little impact on it long term. I imagine there will be a command I can use to set it manually, will look into that later.Tomorrow I'm going to pirate an old game I own on steam.
>>11333823>Vita 2k used differnet sticks than 1k? Very few people are aware of this unless they've actually dissected the two versions side by side, but the 1k had Hall sticks, while the 2k's are standard pots. That's why they're not interchangeable, 1k sticks have 6 datalines, while 2k ones only have 4.

>>11334621Pocket Evo bros???
>>11334632From what I hear people say, the Base is good enough in nearly all situations but Switch emulation. Apparently there's some games that need more than 8GB of RAM, but that's it. For PS2 and GC that should be way more than enough.

>>11334939Yep, specwise its basically like for like with the other Odin 2 models but with a 7" 120hz OLED panel. Its like how outside of a smaller battery/form factor and a 5.5" MiniLED screen, the Odin 2 Mini is basically identical to the other existing Odin 2s. As for selling it, I guess that depends on whether you really want OLED or if the regular screen just doesn't work for you.
>>11334621>menu button in wrong place

>>11335030It's going to be 452g now instead of 415g. I get more people are going to care about battery over weight when forced to choose between the two, but it's kinda sad imo. The weight disparity between it and the Pocket Evo at 478g was pretty notable when it was going to be 415g.
>>11335813Huh, I thought it was 5.5". Yeah, I was probably mixing it up with the RP5.

I want to get a new 3ds xl as a one stop shop for GB/C/A emulation, ds, and 3ds games. Maybe even some Snes or something too. Should I buy a Solgaleo and Lunala new 3ds xl? Or should I buy the Fire Emblem Fates edition? The Pokémon edition is a bit cheaper. The FE edition is a bit more unique, but I'm worried that the white interior will be distracting while playing.Also... I don't know if I should give up on the whole tn/ips thing or not.
can you put new retroarch cores onto an ambernic rg28xx?

>>11336101I don't think emulation of GBA and below are very good on 3ds. Just feels a bit cumbersome.I gave up on the ips displays, when I was getting my used new 3ds xl, I had a choice between an ips top screen, or tn but a better condition and color I like. I went with the tn. You're not gonna look at the screen from the side, ever. People claim it's more vibrant but like no one cares about ips on any other device. It's just slightly better.I would go for the Fire emblem. I think it looks cooler. I don't think the white would be a bother, and it has a unique look.

So has this little niche crashed? There's no form factors left to make and this thread is slow nowadays.
>>11336147DS form factor but yeah it’s been a little slower this past thread, maybe even past two threads. I expected more handhelds to be announced for christmas time though
>>11336149>DS form factorI doubt anyone would buy that over the SP that's out now.
>>11336162I thinks it’s appealing because of how many people enjoy GB/GBA games. Think about it, it’s the next step in that family of games but playing DS/DSi games just fucking suck on anything at all. There is not good way to enjoy them. There are a plethora of games waiting to be emulated. The only issue is finding a use for the two screens with anything else.
>>11332654Current generation of youth are too removed from how tech works to understand a file system
>>11336147There's many form factors left, many input methods left to fix, cover. There's issues surrounding operating systems, features, battery life, cpu/apu/soc and even standby. The only way this niche crashes is if a company comes out tomorrow with covering every form factor with a range of screens from 2.5" to 8" in every aspect ratio, clamshell, vertical, horislop etc, every model would need to have an ARM/X86 variant, perfect operating systems available too, proper battery options for each model and variants based on symmetrical/asymmetric etc too. Add in modifiers for sticks/no sticks models, all of them need hall effect sensors, need models with analogue triggers, models with digital, variants for deep and shallow pulls. Also you've then gotta deal with the difference between panels,.This hobby and niche only dies if you accept what I like and what I like only and then a company develops that handheld in 3 variants to cover every use case without any need for updating for around 10 years. 10 years to allow for different expressiveness in input methods and gains on PPW & performance. If gaming dies today, this generation, we don't release any new platforms or games next year, we can have a 10, 15 & 20 year refresh on the handheld that I like.Consider ereaders, eink has stagnated due to licensing costs, manufacturers are still releasing gimped devices that are barely an upgrade over 2006. The same is true for handhelds, in many ways we've still yet to improve upon the dingoo a320.
>>11336185It's hardly an issue.>make good DS clone>4:3 screen>pixel perfect screens/integer scaled displays>don't use glue made from horses who had jaundice to secure the screen>small model>big model>can choose display and disable one screen entirely for non DS contentb-b-buh muh 3dsMake a good 2ds clone, 2x 16:9 displays or 1x16:9 1x4:3 and do the same as above. That's it, absolutely nothing wrong with having a separate device to play a type of game. The issue is that designers are both lazy & retarded, nobody will make a bespoke DS/2DS clone. It's theoretically capable to have a nice 4:3 higher res screen for DS too, x2 is 384px, 576p, 768 & 960 are all right there for good integer scaling but they wanna use 320x240 & 640x480 junk 4:3 screens since it's all recycled garbage. The absolute best hope you'd have for those lazy chinks sourcing a 2nd hand screen would be if there's a nice 4-5" 1024x768 screen out there. The larger issue is with the industry, beyond the lazy chinks designing these handhelds from surplus tv remotes, the way we've moved towards standardisation with display tech & manufacturing.Ideally you are a man, a man with a plan and you wanna do a DSi XL clone, you can and will spring for a custom display, maybe order some 4 & 5" IPS/OLED panels. There's an elephant in the room, in this world, reality. You've gotta now source a resistive digitiser and engineer it to work with your bespoke screen, that's certainly not happening. In the fantasy world where someone is going to manufacture bespoke displays, they are now engineering around this 5" resistive screen.Okay. I lied it is an issue. I blame Nintendo and capitalism

>>11336273>oh man it's so easy all you ahve to do is jump through all these hoops and make it magically work and lazy chinks can't even do that much/v/ tier post my friend. The simple fact is that we would have more DS clones if there was a bigger market for it.
>>11336424Retroid Pocket 2S, RG405M, Retroid Pocket 4 Pro, or Retroid Pocket 5 Mini. Either of the first two would be all you need, 4P or 5M would be for when you inevitably feel like you need more. Don't feel dissuaded by the 16:9 screen if you end up wanting a device with one, you get used to playing 4:3 games on one after a while if you go that route but if there are truly no widescreen games that interest you then it's probably not worth it.
Which chinkheld did you buy solely for the novelty without caring too much about the function?
>>11336450>The simple fact is that we would have more DS clones if there was a bigger market for it.Autism tier post desu
>>11336446That'll probably never happen. The profit margins are too small to profit from compared to Android or any cheap linux handheld, there's a reason why companies like GPD and Ayaneo cater to the high end so much instead. And even if the margins eventually become profitable enough, you'll still get shittier brands like Anbernic still trying to sell their Win600 for $300 USD with the ancient specs that it has, because they know there's a niche demand and can get away with it.AYN could have possibly made it happen with their Loki Zero, but they just gave up entirely and seemingly killed off the entire Loki brand. The only company willing to dabble into "budget" Windows Handhelds is Ayaneo, and that comes in the form of the Next Lite at either 16gb of RAM + a 4500U for $300, or the Air Plus with 8GB of RAM + a 7320U for $269, both with only 128gb of internal storage. At that point you'd just want to dabble into the used Windows handheld market on ebay if you want something more capable. And even if you get a cheap Windows handheld, you'll want to install a custom Linux distro almost immediately. There's zero benefit to using Windows on a portable device.

Already have an RG353P I'm perfectly happy with, but near me some private sellers have an RGB30 and an RS36 for sale, 75 and 50€ respectively, one at my doorstep and the other one a train ride away.Would you guys recommend getting a "backup" system? My RG has frozen on me a couple times randomly, plus has refused to turn on a few times (though I suspect that was due to me using a second charger since it hasn't happened after I started exclusively using the one charger).None of them can really do N64/Dreamcast though, right? I was hoping for a Dreamcast capable without breaking the bank but I might just have to get an Odin on Christmas.
Hello, dear Anon How is gaming doing?
>>11336791RK3566 devices like RGB30 can do DC if only just barely iirc. Like it's playable but is one of the fastest systems to heat up the device so you can only play like 20 minutes at a time. The Fire Emblem games are kind of similar but replaying stages slows down your reading instead of making you read more by doing another lap of the town like Azure Dreams. Tear Ring Saga is the only game I ever just gave up on because the vocabulary was crazy. I had already played all the GBA and the Gamecube Fire Emblem games at that point so I had a solid base too. I'll go back to it sometime.
>>11337085from what I can tell, miyoo is super cheap, and ambernic is similar but different. Probably cheaper overall as well. Can't forget that money is a big factor for some
>>11337115different things for different people. aside from dungeon crawls and weird shit i don't care for rpga. they're good language data sources though. azure dreams sounds interesting, I'll check it out.
>>11336957Powkiddy's x18s successor is still being worked on. They're just waiting for a chip that's cheaper but offers around the same performance as the t820.
Lain Sneed?
>>11337041Wait really? Why were all consoles just 4:3?
I played a game. Super Mario Land. I made it up to 3-1 and died.
>>11337082>Wanting to carry one device that plays them all instead of lugging around several systemsYeah people are weird
Reminder that the more 'elds you split your use cases among, the less games you will actually play.
>>11336738>Linux requires fixes for every little thing you try to do because it doesn't work half the timeThis isn't true, but you seem too stupid to use Linux anyway. Stick with Windows.
>>11337215because most crt's back in the day were 4:3. believe it or not, you were playing on a stretched image to begin with.
>>11336738>Linux requires fixes for every little thing you try to do because it doesn't work half the time.I'm using Steamfork on an Ayaneo 5560U and it works better than Windows. Not only does it work great as a "consolized" gaming experience as its inspired by SteamOS/BPM; games launch properly in full screen, and games can also run better due to using the Vulkan API. It arguably has better battery life too than it does with Windows.
>>11337318I meant to say why weren't they all just outputting 4:3?
>>11336896>it's like being a hipster retard who's into tapes, and buying a new trash player at urban outfitters made by chinks looking to flip a quick buck, over getting a 30 year old sony player that's old, but was far better engineered, and sold for 3 times the price when it was new.Unironically this is you guys already, so...
>>11336974Relatively, but it's the kind of upgrade where you'll feel you need more not long after. Something to keep in mind that no one told me is that it's the same resolution as a 3.5 inch display just stretched diagonally, so the screen is bigger but so are the pixels.
>>11337076>low power GC and ps2 gamesTry Megaman X Command Mission (GC), Soul Nomad, and PS2 Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts games. You'd think those FF and KH games would be too much but for whatever reason FFX and KH1 worked great for me.
>>11336896>who would make one now when a used DS is 100 bucks at most and flashcarts are 10nta but a dual screen DS clone with a snapdragon chip could play DS, 3DS, and up through GC/PS2/Wii. The second screen, when not playing a console that requires two screens, could play youtube, spotify, etc. It's not a bad idea, and if they could keep the price below $300, people would be gushing from all holes about it on here.
>>11337564>The second screen, when not playing a console that requires two screens, could play youtube, spotify, etc. IThat is a retarded idea, perfect for the brain damaged youth who are unable to focus on a single thing or game. Let them have their digital slop to keep the endorphins flowing, keeping them from realizing how empty and pitiful their lives are.
>>11337575>Let them have their digital slop to keep the endorphins flowing, keeping them from realizing how empty and pitiful their lives are
>>11337564I'm not confident that it would be that cheap, like under the $300 mark unless they really cut corners with the screens and chips used. But it could be novel, especially if you could use the second screen to pull up guides.
>>11337041it's 720x720, it does all that with integer scaling with and without override, and 3x gba utilizing the entire width. and it's 4", not 3.5 or 3.7" manlet cope
>>11337564It already exists, but it costs $800 (OR more)
>>11337602God, a device like the Flip but with Android's ARM architecture instead of x86 would be perfect.
>>11337602right. I'm saying the flip but cheaper would sell like hotcakes. Nobody needs it to run PS3, which is the primary reason it's so expensive.
>>11337589If you want it to run 3ds, it's going to need something more than a h700.
RP3S
>>11337683>rp3 with more power and updated controlsthat's the rp4 tho
Just got my mini and surprised by the power of this thing. I was expecting Wonder to be where this thing hit it's limit, but Pikmin 4, while not perfect, is totally playable. This is insane for $200https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PpvsdcOgOPo&ab_channel=Mr.Floyd
>>11337693too much power desu, should just stick a T610 on a RP4 shell
>>11337701How are you liking your mini? Mine is coming in today assuming DHL doesn't get confused and deliver to the wrong apartment complex again.
>>11337721Haven't done a lot with it yet, currently testing the boundries before doing my usual suspects (retroarch and the like), but it feels good, screen looks great, seems like a very direct upgrade over the RP4P About to test We Love Katamari, I remember a couple levels that gave me a hard time on my RP4P so I wanna see how it fares on this
>>11337729Can you get wii u running on it ?
So it's settled. There's no more form factors left. Can we get rid of this shill general now?
>>11337742Sadly no, Wii U emu is only on Android 13. Technically so is Yuzu, but a community port exists that allows for gameplay on 10.
>>11337602Ayaneo are dummies legitimately
>>11337564>The second screen, when not playing a console that requires two screens, could play youtube, spotify, etc.On a chinkheld? Enjoy your 1 hour of battery life. The real best use for it is having a guide up when needed.
>>11337759Next form factor is a device with only a screen on the front, all the buttons on the sides and back.
>>11337793>>11337589this is either the same guy sharing a bad idea twice or two people who think having a guide they'll need once every other hour of gameplay is worth having a dedicated screen
>>11337729Tested and was surprised at how well it ran. The level in question chugged on my RP4P even on high performance mode, but the Mini runs it just fine on standard. I knew it was gonna run a bit better than the synthetic benchmarks would suggest but this is getting insane. Gonna run BotW next just out of morbid curiosity now
>>11337865How is the heat on the high peformance mode?
>>11337928Nothing too bad, the fan's admittedly quite loud on high performance but it's certainly doing it's job. Though admittedly I haven't done a long stretch of high performance, only tested Pikmin 4 for a few minutes. Switch is really the only thing forcing me to use it anyways
Latest rumor on baidu is a new version of the arc. With an h700 so it'll play saturn worse than the original.
>>11337865I was going to get the RP4P, but if the jump in power is that big, then it might make sense to just get the mini. Or wait for the 5.
>>11338096i got the mini because of the form factor, but i was really tempted by the picrel color of the 5. if the 5 were closer in spec to the odin 2 pro, I'd get it in a heartbeat, but I couldn't justify it since the 5 and mini both have the same chipset and only differ in terms of screen and battery.
>>11338106>dpad in wrong place
>>11338106well anon can it run botw?????
>>11336896>who would make one now when a used DS is 100 bucks at most and flashcarts are 10?I WANT ONE.Now admittedly, you asked who would (((((make))))) one but those used DS, they got aids. They got piss yellow screens baby pissbaby yellow staining. Well, not the 1st gen baby blue model, but the DS lite and the DSi models do.Why would I not want a DS clone with a decent 4:3 screen that can integer scale perfectly to 4x, 5x or even 10x, a 2x would be an improvement.Take the DSi XL, the near perfect form factor of that model, clone it and slam in some cute fuckin' rippin' hot displays for the kids, we can't get the SEXY AS FUCK huge pixels back but we can put in a screen high res enough that we can replicate it with shaders. Make it an OLED or IPS panel too and we're almost back to the sheer and utter perfection of the DSi XL.The microphone is mandatory for a repro but the DSi has one issue, the camera, you could get away without installing one but at this stage even the most ewaste tier VGA sensor is an upgrade over the DSi's camera. Slap it on back, slam it in and put a small piece of glass over the lens and we're cooking.Flashcarts, they're nice, but you know what's nicer? That's right, even linux distros running on ARM without proper suspend support. Yes, that's even an upgrade over the DS, the DS lite and the rockin' sweet DSi.Flashcarts are hardware for the disabled.
>>11338156That's a different anon, and unsure. Didn't actually have the rom on hand and currently downloading>>11338096The only real difference between the mini and 5 is screen size and 2gb of ram, so your call
>>11338059This is hilarious. If it's cheaper though I might be interested, always liked the look of the Arc and it would be perfect for SEGA CD and 32X. Also I know I memed it up earlier but that Quick Push handheld arrived on Sunday and it really is fun
>>11338059>xx
>>11338212If they just had a vertical, horizontal, and clamshell, and nothing else, the XX line coulda been one of the most well regarded lines of retro handhelds there is...why did they make it fucking eight.
new bread?
>>11337815I only said it once and that was just to try and justify having a second screen for anything but two specific handheld consoles, while being realistic in regards to energy usage especially for cheap chinkshit. Other than that I don't see a reason for a DS clone to be anything but a niche novelty even among handhelds since most DS games can be played on one screen. The only time I felt limited was DQ where text is on a different screen than the characters.
>>11338158DS and 3DS look like shit on anything but real hardware.
>>11338275De looks fine on the surface duo. 3ds is wider so not so much
>>11338286DS especially only looks good on original hardware, 3DS sometimes looks better upscaled if it's a fully 3D game.
Presenting, ThreadXX>>11338312>>11338312>>11338312>>11338312>>11338312
>>11338275it looks even shittier on real hardware.
>>11338275Don't worry, that's what the 4:3 display is for.It can be 384, 576, 768, 960, 1152, 1344 (LOL) no seriously, this is a cursed resolution, 1536, 1728 or even 1920 px tall and it'll look A-OK, better even than DS hardware. The only competition would be the DSi XL with that lovely low PPI display but that can be worked around with shaders and a 1920px tall display would allow you to run titles in 10x res and emulate the low PPI display similar to the anal log.The reason DS looks shit on 3DS is Nintendo's skill issue, same reason that GBA & GB look shit, they keep using screens that don't multiply into multiples so you can't integer scale. As for other platforms looking shit? Same issue, display tech is mostly standardised, unless the screen divides into a multiple it will look shit.However. DS looks pretty good on 2x 1024x768 displays, that's 4x for clean scaling. At that point you can either render in native res or at 768px and if you want to emulate the pixel grids from the previous display being low PPI you can do so with a shader. What you are describing is a skill issue.
>>11336581So you had that stroke in the end?
>>11337171Mfw the only company making clamcells is the one most likely to mess it up. And it still underpowered and unable to play all the things it's contemporaries can, like portmaster.
>>113382753d games can be upscaled and look a bit nicer, 2x resolution is all I ever want to improve early 3D games
>>11338195If it ran saturn I would have got one
>>11337602x86 so basically a laptop? Where if you want to display 2 screens you open two windows. Just get 1 larger folding screen.
>>11337759
>>11337793So there won't be better battery replacements in the future? Right?
>>11337865reminds me of the gp2x wiz
>>11338739>So there won't be better battery replacements in the future? Right? It's unlikely that there will be, believe it or not the "amazing" li-on battery replacements we saw arise in the 2000's wasn't actually a breakthrough even. Lithium was pegged before the 70's, li-on in the mid 70's then years avoiding it casting FIRE IV through to the 90's where it has largely stagnated since. They have charge cycle issues beyond nickel batteries that have yet to be solved, they still cast fire IV when sleepy or when, you know what the reasons are too numerous.Calling it Fire IV is inaccurate too because it's more like self destruct. They are currently disposable technology that's very bad for the planet, only slightly above lead and lead acid. Now, IS there capacity for a better battery replacement? Sure. Solid state still looks amazing but y'know, same issues we saw coming from lithium. What we have now, what you can cram into the space, that chasm, that's the capacity you should be expecting in 20 years. A new device can use less power, but an old device can only ever hold a bit more with a battery tech upgrade.
