Is the title screen of Tonari no Princess Rolfee supposed to look like somebody turned the contrast knob to the max? I've noticed in some PC-FX titles running in Mednafen that colors look very strange.
Actual in-game colors look fairly normal...
...until we get a digitized picture which certainly looks wrong compared to character sprites.
Beat this game not too long ago.Very viable for translation20+ hours rpg and all voiced segments are accompanied with texted dialogue.
Also beat Miraculum 50-60+ hours. I would say this game is the systems magnum opus when it comes to JRPGs. Same developer as Startling Oddyssey on PC ENGINE CD.Unfortunately voiced sections are not accompanied by dialogue boxes.
>>11332005>pcfx emulation is finally viable Based. Is there anyone that is working on translations for any of the games though? There are a few that looks like they were worth playing but the titles escape me atm
>>11333062There's a translation of Team Innocent in the works.
what kind of name is Rolfee?
>>11333302An otaku one.
>>11332006>>11332010Oh no, don't tell me this is actual console behavior.

>>11332010Lazily scanned images just had that bloom look in the early to mid 90s, though this is extreme. This is what it could look like on a PC98, though I forgot if I played the 16 or 256 colour version. I'm going to bet they just fucked up the digitization because the PC-FX can do a fuckload more colour and this doesn't look like a nuke has gone off.
>>11334829I know that unlike many consoles, PC-FX uses YUV color space internally instead of RGB color space, so I assumed that distorted colors could be a calculation mistake in emulator. Unfortunately, looking for ancient videos on Nico Nico I can see nuclear bloom in old recordings, unless they already had PC-FX emulators in 2007.

>>11334707>bottom right pictureoh now we're talking
>>11332005Emulated never perfect.
Bing AI doesn't know who Rolfee is, instead giving me faux PC-98 images of princesses.
>>11335627Don’t use her with ai, she already okay.(awesome retro rendering)
>>11335958Don't look closer at the dot placement and coloration.

I found screenshots online captured from a real PC-FX GA, so unfortunately oversaturation is intentional.
>>11332005I wrote a program to dump images from a PC-FX game over a decade ago and I remember using the reference YUV-to-RGB algorithm from wikipedia. I compared against Mednafen and noticed it produced a slightly more washed out colors whereas the images I was producing with the reference algorithm was a bit richer. I dug into the source of Mednafen and found a similar but slightly different algorithm which explained the different results. I just assumed they had a good reason for doing it that way.>PC-FX emulators in 2007Pretty sure Mednafen has been around that long and MagicEngineFX is even older.
The ratios screen size not wide
