I like the simplicity of 1. Something satisfying about the push-and-pull of a fight when you get through your opponent's blocks. Also, if you're playing by yourself, the AI isn't ridiculous like it is in MKII.

a simple but fun one i used to do on mk1 genesis was to throw the opponent when "finish him" popped up with scorpion then you could immediately press up up to do the fatality, and he would burn them while they were laying on the ground

This. MK1 AI is better, but only if you compare the arcade AI. MK2 still is the best for consoles. MK2 impossible to beat AI was only meant for the arcades for money grabbing like most arcade ports are.

I also owned on SNES. There are 5 difficulty modes on that MK2, and I was able to finish the game with nearly every character in "very easy" mode while being only 12 years old.

3 is a downgrade. They added lots of unnecessary craps like dial-up combos to compete with other fighters at the time. But MK was never meant to turn into a Street Fighter.
