I pulled the trigger and finally bought a cheap Android tablet for myself, my GF has an iPad and I've liked using it more than I expected, so I got a cheap tablet for myself, though Android since I prefer the OS, it should arrive in a few days. I'm thinking of getting a telescopic controller that can fit it, it's about 25cm wide, 10.5' screen, it's going to be fun using CRT shaders on it I guess.

I'm probably getting an IPEGA, any other good telescopic controllers that can extend to 25cm without any sort of modifications? I just want it to fit right out of the box if possible as I'm lazy.

so I was looking to upgrade from my old RK3326 vertislop to a T618 horizontal console with a 16:9 screen primarily for better PSP performance and some 2D PS2 games

my choices are
>Retroid Pocket 3+
pretty expensive in my country, official website won't ship to my country so resellers are my only option, the best one hardware and software wise according to everyone
>Powkiddy X28
cheapest one, but also apparently filled with hardware issues and performance is not as good as the others
>RG405M
kinda expensive, but also nice metal build and performance, 4:3 display tho, also it can overheat and I hate that
>RG505
OLED display (the same as the Vita tho but I don't mind the green smearing), great performance with Gamma OS and decent hardware

think I'm going for the RG505 and install GammaOS as soon as it arrives, any potential hardware issue I should be aware of? or am I commiting a huge mistake and should just save more for the Pocket 3+

I actually get a lot of use out of mine, though lately it's been docked to my TV as a sort of HTPC instead of just games which I achieved by installing firefox and kodi as flatpak non-steam games.
Also yes, you did get scammed hard on that SD card. If you can't tell what's real always go with the Nintendo branded ones. You probably didn't even need that because you could also attach an external to the dock instead, which is how I have my movies and shows set up.

Uh...maybe because they like those consoles?
>>11350043
>also it can overheat and I hate that
Protip: they all can. The solution is that when you feel your chinkheld start to get warm, you put it to sleep and set it down until it cools off. That's literally it. Again: EVERY CHINKHELD GETS HOT. The most common way for it to build heat quickly is playing the highest end type of console it's capable of and/or having it plugged into the tv. You have to pay attention to and manage its heat, this is something each chinkheld user needs to be aware of. Personally I'm "lucky" in that I had an early wake up call to shit like this with an old cell phone, most people don't seem to understand that their electronics generating too much heat is something to pay attention to.
>great performance with Gamma OS and decent hardware
This applies for 405M as well, at least in my experience. Worst I can say about it is my L1 button needed to be clicked harder than the other triggers after some months of use.

RP4P cannot play Nightshade (PS2) at a playable speed and SASRT (3DS) is the same way, among other things. RP5 is still in the cope range so if you need to have it all, I'd say just go for Odin 2 Mini if you're looking at performance and portability as the biggest factors. If you don't need it to be small, there's more options.

Its okay if you can get it used at a reasonable price, I paid $556 CAD (slightly less than $400 USD I think) for one and I think that's reasonable for it. Screen looks nice and controls are okay, though I'm not a fan of the shoulder buttons or the triggers. Not a fan of how off center the left side of the device is, its perfectly fine with how it fits into the palm of my hands on the right side but I'm just not a fan of this design choice in execution.
The main reason why people recommend the 'eck isnt just good price/perf, its also because Windows on a handheld is awful. None of this is helped either by the fact that that AYN's Loki Control Center is very poor and I dont remember if there's a download link on the site anymore, I had to go on a mini scavenger hunt for it. Ayaneo's Ayaspace was honestly better for managing TDP controls with a button, it had its problems but I found it worked more reliably in comparison. Plus you can't use both controller mode or mouse mode/TDP switching with the Loki. You have to choose one or the other. The difficulty with making a Windows handheld is probably one of the reasons why AYN dropped out of making those, and why they're really fighting against Ayaneo hard on the Android front.

Portability is honestly more important to me than performance. I've got a gaming pc for intensive stuff. I'll consider the Odin though, thanks.
>>
>>11352326
No problem. As far as portability goes, RP4P is almost the exact same size as my phone and sits comfortably in my pocket with the back to my leg and the triggers pointed behind me. If it had Odin 2's performance it would basically be the perfect portable console for me, but it does lack that highest end performance.

RP4P is pretty good but many PS2 games struggle. Some levels of katamari struggled for me even on high performance. The mini meanwhile played those same levels fine on standard.

The Mini was designed to just be a smaller version of the 5, the only reason 5 is gonna launch later and have more ram is because the retroid community asked for it. Beyond that extra 2gb of ram, the mini is effectively a 5

RP5 is not that much stronger than RP4P. If you want the entire PS2 library you still won't get it. Best to just figure out which games you actually want to play on PS2 then look up RP4P tests. If it doesn't work there chances are it won't work on the RP5 either.

Right now the Odin 2 line is the only thing to get you the entire PS2 library without going up to the handheld PC tier.
>>
>>11352746
I've seen the RPMini run Shadow of the Colossus at 2x. The RP5 should run almost everything most people actually want to play just fine. Just because Dirge of Cerberus and Need for Speed Detroit aren't playable doesn't mean it isn't a good PS2 machine.

Every single one that melted went bad during charging because USB-C charging is wired wrong, there's this kilometric write-up on leddit about the 35xx Plus'. So even if you have a charger that can't handle incorrect USB-C and ends up being fed power by the SP mistaking it for a device, that's solved by just using an A to C cable like you should in the first place. Literally nothing to do with the chip's proximity, which, again, is how virtually every single vertical has worked. Meanwhile, the SP buttons will sink by piercing holes through the membranes -and- the domes before even hitting 100 hours of use. And even though new buttons with rings similar to the originals were made to prevent this, Anbernic just put out new colors with the old buttons mixed in. And no one gives a shit. because you're all dumb tourists looking for something to gossip about.

You're losing performance and a nominal 300 mah.

Kinda torn about it myself, my RGB30 has been acting up, occasionally when I shake it to test my felt padding it goes out, might be the solder on the battery thing coming loose or something worse, I did hamfist this thing at times.

Ordered by musthaveness:
DSi XL > 3DS > Vita > Switch

DSi XL is the best way to play DS games, and importing Japanese LL will give you near mint console for dirt cheap, just avoid the discolored/yellowed screens
n3DS is not worth the price difference vs o3DS, and GBA runs natively on both
Vita includes PSP except for the TV out (which is only good for PS1 games anyway)
Switch 2 is backwards compatible if you insist on buying games (buy physical at least), and hacking a Switch 1 is neither free nor easy; buy used and/or hacked if you must

Also, any phone can emulate PSP and Vita doesn't have enough exclusives on its own, so it isn't really a must have. Still worth more than a Switch 1, since it's an actually portable handheld at least.
>>
>>11355113
Why are we talking about an unconfirmed 10th gen console though?
>but leakers-
But nothing, leakers have been shit for years.
>>
>>11355116
NTA but ignoring any "leaks" it's a given that Switch 2 will be backwards compatible. Nintendo's handhelds have always been compatible with the previous generation, as well as the Wii and Wii U, and backwards compatibility is now a staple of major consoles, with the PS5 and Series X/S being BC. With the popularity of the Switch 1 and the fact that they're still throwing out major releases for it, it'd be shocking if the 2 couldn't play 1 games
>>
>>11355130
I'm not doubting the logic, I'm just saying it's retarded to rely on leakers and it's kind of pointless to say anything about Switch 2 in the conversation's context aside from putting Switch in your ranking and just saying something like "but it might be worth waiting for Switch 2 rather than buying a Switch unless you really need to play Switch games now" which if they really need to anyway then they can always play on PC while waiting for Switch 2.

Saw that coming.

That said, he's wrong about Snapdragon not being needed or not gaining performance on the D1200.
>never had Dolphin crash on me on other devices
Full of shit.
>>
>>11355846
Some of his complaints seem either dumb or specific to his device maybe but that glass front really does look annoying, holy shit. Honestly kinda ruins the whole appeal of an OLED screen when you have constant glare and reflections on the front.
>>
>>11355846
>doesn't understand how fighting games and d-pad tests are relevant
Certified retard. Which is unfortunate as it bogs down his complaints, and god knows we need someone critical about design flaws.

RP5 is literally perfect though. The RP mini is the beta test version.

Mini blew up in popularity, then they teased the P60 and never released it, then the A30 was released but it was ass and had to be priced aggressively, and they've been sitting on the Flip pending cancelation for like a year now.
>>
>>11355931
Miyoo Mini was a huge hit and got insanely popular but it's all they've ever succeeded at. Everything else either sucked or is in development hell and probably cancelled.
>>
>>11355978
Their previous devices did do well. (Both bittboy's, pocketgo, pocketgo 2) The miyoo mini is just an evolution of the emuheld bittboy. That said, the pocketgo s30 was their first acutal failure and halted their horizontal plans for a couple of years.
>>
>>11356000
The S30 actually had a lot of potential, shame how it turned out.
>>
It's official. I canceled my rp5 order.

Thanks for updating us. I'll change my records to reflect that.

Its probably for the best to skip this year's Retroid devices. Between adding unnecessary glass displays to what could've been AYN/Retroid's kick ass value devices, the delays to add 8gb to the device, let other people be the beta testers.

>anbernic
Trash. There's a reason the people who buy their devices have 10+ handhelds gathering dust on a shelf somewhere. Get a retroid, odin, or steamdeck OLED. Everything else is just burning money on your journey to the same destination only to realize how much time and money you wasted along the way.

The Miyoo Flip will come, either by November or December, maybe early next year. I see Miyoo Flip as a kind of mixed bag at best. It appears to be better than anything from DataFrog/Game Console, and the a30 and maybe even the v90 R36s, and q90

Definitely they are now way more often than not.

Portmaster can be neat I guess. But sticks on a vertical clamshell seems like a stupid idea
>>
>>11356713
Maybe, I M O the sticks of the Miyoo Flip are too low in their position. maybe move them up1.5-1.75" inches from their current position, along with definitely not being so cheap with the hinge as anbernic was with the RG35XXSP.
How about Portmaster on the Powkiddy RGB20SX?

>>
>>11355931
Ambernic capitalized on how slow Miyoo's R&D was and released every single handheld ergonomics you could ever want with the same chipset allowing you to emulate most systems for a cheap price. At this point it isnt: buy a miyoo mini or a RG35XX, it's go find a RGXX series with the handheld format you prefer like a clamshell or a saturn controller and get whatever fits your hands the best.
>>
I'm really torn between getting the Retroid Mini or the Cube XX. I don't know if the extra $140 is worth n64 ps2 and gamecube.

I bought the RG35xxsp because it came with a beautiful red clamshell. Lent it to my sister and now it's hers.
I already have a steam deck, but I thought bringing around a device I'm not afraid to lose or break for some trips would be nice. Should I buy another one for myself, or pick the ones with thumbsticks? I want to play PS1 games that's been on my backlog for a couple of decades now. For my PS2 backlog there's my steam deck.

Retroid flip looks great too and comes in red, but it's a bit too expensive for my use case.

If Retroid made a sequel to it but less cheap looking you'd buy that, right?
>>
>>11357147
Similar to what the other anon said but if you already have a chinkheld, how many games have you actually beaten on it? How often do you sit down and seriously game with it? That should help you answer your question.
>>
>>11357208
Retroid Flip is essentially a clamshell RP3+ iirc, but it's hinges are so infamously bad that you're lucky the price drove you away.
>>
>>11357217
If it's less cheaply constructed, or just cheaper, maybe? I'm a sucker for clamshells. I'd feel less guilty breaking an ambernic than a retroid.
>>11357231
Sounds about right. The games it can run is only barely better than the ambernic stuff and it's price half an LCD steam deck.
>>
>>11356560
Overpriced, d-pad is mediocre, sticks are kinda useless.

>>11356765
To the end. Buy a decent SD reader.
>>
>>11357270
I'd just get an SP. Been playing Spyro 3 and SaGa Frontier 2 as well as that MegaMan Legends 2 demo on mine and it's been a good time so far. Spyro drops frames in a few areas with lots of stuff on screen and I can't get the FF7 Survivor romhack to run (while conversely, Tail Concerto runs when it didn't on my RP4P) but other than that I don't have anything against its PS1 emulation. GB/A games "just feel right" on it but that's nostalgia, also the filter on GBA looks pretty bad imo so it's worth disabling the Override in the RetroArch menu to get rid of it. I don't know if you ever had a GBA SP but I do and this scratches that "wouldn't it be so cool to be able to play [console] on my GBA?" itch like you wouldn't believe. I still go back to the RP4P for anything above PS1 but you have a Deck for that. You can't really count on durability when it comes to chinkhelds but while I sound like a total shill, SP is probably a decent compromise between build quality, functionality, and especially price. I got the old RK2023s which are barely more performant than the SP at way higher of a price and while RP2S and RG405M shit on all of them, 2S's sticks stick out too much to be comfortably pocketable and while I'd recommend the 405M, it's probably more expensive than you'd want and has worse triggers.

It’s got the right aspect ratio, perfect 2x scale pixel count, and the picture will definitely be bigger. The device is wider than the MM+ so just a heads up
>>
>>11357628
Yeah I saw that, I'd like to play GB too but the Miyoo looks like a better ratio for that, I suppose you can't have a perfect ratio for GB and GBA
