So my metal recycler mate has offered to keep CRTs for me, but I don't have the room to keep them all. What are the best brands for TVs and monitors. Obviously anything with component, S-Video or scart will automatically be kept.

>Obviously anything with component, S-Video or scart will automatically be kept.
then why are you even asking this question
>>
>>11355224
Because I want to know what brands to get regardless of them having those connections
>>
My experience is that Sony and Toshiba are the gold standard. Have a small, basic Sony Trinitron myself, although it’s only composite and mono audio.

That said, I found a Sansui on the side of the road that I assumed was a no name, but it has component. Grabbed it for my coworker who’s also into retro. He researched it, and it uses Toshiba parts, so some are going to be sleepers like that.

It's a case-by-case thing but in my experience Sony and JVC are brands that almost any TV from will be great.

Samsung's flat screen CRT TVs from the 2000's (aside from the slim fit TVs) are also great

Just note--I have never owned a slim fit TV, it's just something I've read about them that they're not very good. Maybe that is not the case, I can't entirely say for sure

People always forget RCA. People think of the brand now as an economy brand logo thrown on chinese LCD walmart house brand LCDs, but they were excellent in the CRT era. The 2000 era ones are especially excellent. Component input, S-video, nearly 800 vertical lines in their non-HD models, and they had among the lowest lag HD CRTs for 480p. Also some of the darkest blacks on a consumer tv.

JVC's popular D series used RCA tubes, as did many of 90s and 2000s arcade monitors.

RCA CRT at 480p using component input on the left, side by side with a viewsonic monitor with VGA cable on the right. No measurable lag. D27f750T

Random image stolen from internet. My 32" RCA is too big so its in storage at my parents house, and I use smaller 17" and 20" PVM at home. But that RCA was my absolute favourite for Wii and PS2.

Those Chinese ones after 2000 with the silver bezel are better than big names from the 90's I've found. The comb filter for composite is so much better. A lot of those brands have Toshiba tubes but from the label you would think its a piece of shit. The 2 Samsungs I've got have turned out to be pretty shitty though with one having a yellow tint.
