I always preferred Nintendo consoles to Sony consoles but for more esoteric reasons than the de facto lineups and I think it's similar for most people who feel this way, at least subconsciouslyLike, the PS1 has a bunch of great games but it's not like the games needed the console to exist as much as the console needed the games. That's what the SNES showed when Nintendo had everything. Then Sony came along with the PS1 and caused a divide that kinda just happened without anyone asking for it (Sony stakeholders aside), even resulting in SNES and N64 games getting canceled that Sony had previously been set to publishWhat if the PS1 had never existed? Most games would likely have landed on the N64, for better or worse. Even FF7 was initially developed for N64. On the other hand the connection between Nintendo consoles and Nintendo games is inherent
>>11355367If the PS1 never existed gaming would be in a dark age. It's not as simple as saying "Oh all the PS1 games would've been released on the N64!". With how limited and expensive cartridges were, many games would simply not exist, or be radically different. The N64 failed because it was a bad product, made by a company that had a history of strong-arming developers to play by it's rules, and it's rules only. Many were rightfully sick of Nintendo, and saw no future in the N64.
>>11355367>Then Sony came along with the PS1 and caused a divide that kinda just happened without anyone asking for itit's why sony fans are so caustic, they know they're basically an orc army that crawled out from the abyss
>>11355367>what if playstation never existedthen everyone might have gone with sega because of the saturn using cds since a lot of companies didn't like the limitations of the cartridge and the expensive costs of them and nintendo's work stations, and i say might because that thing would still be the saturn in terms of development (not saying the n64 was a breeze to make games for but the saturn was a bigger pain for many to work with).
>>11355369>it's why sony fans are so caustic, they know they're basically an orc army that crawled out from the abyssI feel the same way, look at this anon >>11355368 who immediately has to regurgitate slogans like "hurr N64 failed" and weird conjectures like that gaming would be dead without PS1 for which there is zero evidence
>>11355367True. Nintendo is the constant.
>>11355369kek
>>11355367>On the other hand the connection between Nintendo consoles and Nintendo games is inherentsame applies to sega. in an ideal world sony and ms never happened and sega made better decisions designing and marketing the saturn and dreamcast.

>>11355373he isn't wrong, y2k era people were literally retarded and just wanted edgy and mature
>Most games would likely have landed on the N64, for better or worse. Even FF7 was initially developed for N64
>>11355367>if n64 only existed than ps1 games all would be n64 gamesThis is the lowest iq take I've seen in a while.
>>11355367>RE4 gamecube>Full-screenI wish
>>11355370I feel the saturn needed some sort of nintendo-esque innovation/gimmick to thrive.N64 and PSX having such drastically different controllers, storage media and hardware capabilities made for very different types of games exclusive to each console, with their quirks, strengths and weaknesses. Ocarina of Time and Perfect Dark literally wouldn't have been possible on the PS1, while Symphony of the Night, Vib-Ribbon and pretty much any multi-disc JRPG wouldn't have worked well with the N64's design. But because Saturn and PS1 were so similar pretty much most Saturn games could theoretically have been done on the Playstation and with much less developer hassle. A few 2D games like shmups and fighters ran worse on PS1, but it wasn't enough for the average joe in 1996 to care, and many other saturn ports were outright worse due to devs struggling with the complex architecture of the system, so it ended up with most people seeing it as a Poor Man's Playstation that cost an extra hundred bux.
>>11355746>most ps1 games could have been made on a Saturn with less hassleNo the Saturn wasn't an easier console to develop for. There are retarded console warrior takes, there are retarded zoomie know nothing takes and then there is your take which is both.
>>11355368Siny ended up being the bad guys though. Look at Californy
>>11355367>I always preferred Nintendo consoles to Sony consoleThat's called arrested development. See a psychiatrist.
>>11355373>weird conjectures like that gaming would be dead without PS1 for which there is zero evidenceThe entire thread is based on a counterfactual you prolapsed retard.
>>11355772I literally said the opposite, you homosexual.
