Why does this get a new remaster every other year and what's the best one? I do remember liking it even if I took a long break and then had no clue where to go which was crazy. I do remember a comfy funfairSteam or should I just emulate? Are there emulation bugs? I don't care about new skits because most of it is animu babble written by interns

are you guys excited for tales of graces remaster yet? it looks good and apparently runs at 60fps too
Only Tales of Phantasia was good.
>>11380696It wasn't but it had a good setting/decent story and they need to do a real remake. The Japan only X version that came with Narikiri Dungeon X was dogshit because while they made spellcasting real time they didn't rebalance or fix it so it made the game too easy.
>>11380349Looks like a reimagined comic sans.
>>11380878Comic Sans was more of a Dreamcast thing, but I think a lot of Gamecube games used it too solidifying the Gamecube as the Dreamcast 2.
>>11380887I don't remember any specific games using Comic Sans besides SA2. Then again, I wouldn't have noticed as a kid, anyway.
>>11380337Seems like you have the wrong game - this one is about Symphonia, not about Reddit. Hope this helps you find your game

>Original game comes out in Japan on Gamecube>Runs at 60FPS>Also comes out a month later in Japan on the PS2>PS2 port reduced to 30FPS because of weaker hardware>Visual effects toned down too>Nintendo foots the bill for an English translation (But not enough to also include the intro song)>Year later game releases outside Japan on the GC only>Years Pass>Game gets ported to PS3>Nintendo owns rights to English translation so game gets re-translated>Based on PS2 version so also 30FPS>Years Pass>Game gets ported to Steam>Based on PS2 version so still 30FPS>Years Pass>Game gets ported to PS4 and Xbox One>Based on PS2 version so still 30FPS>Game also gets ported to the fucking SWITCH>Still fucking based on PS2 version so still at fucking 30FPSThey don't even have the fucking excuse of "Oh, the game was hard-coded to run at 30FPS" that some publishers use when explaining why Steam ports of 20+ year old games don't run at 60FPS or higher if they were able to reduce a 60FPS game to 30FPS within a month, but in 20 years cannot get it back to 60FPS or better? The GC version is also still the only one with the better visual effects as well.
>>11381940A few parts of this post need some sources cited, because the timeline doesn't match up as well as a few other issues.>GC ToS JP released August 2003>PS2 ToS JP released September 2004>Nintendo foots the bill for the EN translation/owns the rights... yet a cursory look at lines that weren't directly transcribed from the voiced script are identical down to formatting, and even some poor/questionable translation choices remain unchanged, which you would expect to be significantly different if two different translation teams produced distinct translationsI don't even have to go very far into the game to find something you'd expect to see at least approached differently if 2 teams actually worked on 2 different scripts - it's pretty far out there to expect two entirely separate groups to produce this precise output. Hell, it'd be a surprise if both teams arrived at similar texts at all given how the EN text differs significantly from the JP.>Genis makes no mention of the "stay HERE (in the classroom)" part of Raine's instructions to the class as he approaches Lloyd, leaving him open for Lloyd's subsequent BSing>It's not "research" at all - Lloyd specifically calls out the technicality of what he's doing and how it will still be studying on his own>Genis calls out Lloyd's bullshitting more directly by asserting that his point defies logic>Lloyd spins what Genis says back and asserts that his logic, however strained, is still "logic" (and still has the word "logic" right in the word)The EN script actually misses out on a bit of early Lloyd-tier characterization by writing it off with the "excuse" line. This is possibly Lloyd's earliest instance of showing that while he's not exactly bright from a book smarts standpoint, he can still make a good point from his heart even if it's flawed as all hell.

Are these games related to Star Ocean in terms of gameplay? The Tales series I mean.>>11381940>English game with a Japanese intro songBut that’s actually kino
>>11381940what seems to be the problem? Either play the GC version ad infinitum or emulate. GC emulation has been very good for a long time. I'll never understand the rage and raging about (bad) rereleases, remasters and remakes. In virtually all cases the original is still playable in one way or another.
>>11381940Meanwhile people even got 60fps working wit stuff like PC SMT Nocturne. I hope someone gets some interpolation mod working for PC TOS. I don't care if it's basically cheating.>>11385558Well people don't like seeing good games get butchered, especially if it was a wasted chance for a definitive version.
>>11385545In its first entry in 1995, combat in Tales was fully real time. This let it do things like allow the player to hold up or down to perform different attacks, both for default attacks and skills. In its first entry in 1996, combat in Star Ocean required pressing attack, pausing for the player to select a target, then requiring attack to be pressed again. Assuming you weren't just mashing though, of course.Star Ocean feels like a braindead slog by comparison.

>>11388989What a stupid comment.
>>11385530Severe autism is exactly what you need when it comes to shit like this. It's easy to miss things if you don't have good attention to detail, and even easier to fail to convey all of the information present in a text. No matter how small, details matter.Considering that Lloyd's profound emotional intelligence and instinctive moral compass are his most endearing character traits that take center stage more and more as the game goes on, establishing this early on and maintaining that momentum as those moments occur adds value to him as a character, which the audience benefits from as well.Lloyd has a way of turning pedantic arguments on their head through sheer sincerity. For him, it's not about the words, but the spirit behind them. This is quintessentially Lloyd, and any of that which is lost in translation is a disservice to him and his character.
>>11382086I wonder if any translation decisions here were related to a character limit.I know that was a common concern in earlier systems, I don't know if it wasn't an issue by the time GC rolled around.
Look at this couple.

>>11385545I remember that was the most memorable thing that got me into the Tales series. It was impressive that the SNES game, Tales of Phantasia, had a full opening song in addition to its impressive pixel art and Fujisima Kosuke character designs. Then I was in total awe with Tales of Destiny on the original Playstation with it's song by Deen: https://youtu.be/wRaq3__T_LkI can admit the games are formulaic and generic, but they're still fun for their interactive battles. The characters do have enough charm for me that it I hope to have time to spend playing through the games just for those moments. The games do typically choose a pretty catchy opening song.
