When was the last time you indulged in some mother fucking Tetris? ITT Post obscure tetris, potato Tetris, board game Tetris, spinoff Tetris, etc...
>>11388864>catch pokemon by getting a tetris >able to mirror pieces>pentaminos in later levels pretty neat all around
>>11388864I coded a version for commodore 64 basic recently.
>>11388892What the hell is up with that Togetic?
>>11388864Played official NES Tetris the other day for the 1st time in probably 10 years, got 133 lines my first game and put it back down. Not nearly as good as I used to be, I made tons of mistakes getting there, dont have the block colors memorized anymore.
>>11388864Christmas 1990
>>11388864A few days ago I was repairing some game boys and to test them I played Tetris.
I play the Rosy Retrospection romhack pretty regularly, and Tetris Effect when I can be bothered to fire up my Xbox.
>>11388864Didn't Canada outlaw these things out of fear they'd be used for car theft?
>>11389606Rosy Retrospection is brilliant. Apotris for GBC too.
>>11388864how do u do fellow kidz???
>>11390130For a moment I thought it said "The Classic Boomer Legend."
>>11388908This is really neat. Good job.
Been a couple months since I last played Tetris. And the one I last played was the unlicensed Tengen port that came out n NES.
>>11389310I was thinking about this game the other day, and I was wondering why more games like it don't exist. Not necessarily Tetris specifically, but "Quality abstract game" + "Popular multimedia franchise".The companies get a bunch of sales, and the kid gets a decent game instead of the normal licensed crap.Tetris with Cardcaptor Sakura is only okay IMO, but Pokemon de Panepon is fantastic.
Found this little arcade cabinet thing at Goodwill the other month. Filled with MD/Genesis games.Arctic Wolf is a security firm, so this is either some really cool trade-show swag, or company gift of some kind.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mitJafrsimwFor me, it's tetris on my watch.
>>11390572I got one of these in a mail in offer a while ago. Don't know where I stored it, and the screen is probably f'd by now.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QzV4kNLnjdI
Found a seller who has the cozy Tetris game on eBay
>>11390710Reminder that if you've received such device and there is no bavarian boy at the side of screen yelling shit at you, you're playing it wrong and didn't beat the game.
>>11388864>M-x tetris
>>11389662Nearly every country had a "panic" that they could turn people into Hakkermann and cause people en masse to hack ATMs and steal cars and all that shit. I think Canada was the only one stupid enough to actually go through with banning them though. Considering that the ISPs in Canada make US ISPs look like heaven I am not surprised the people behind the wheel there are clueless idiots about technology, probably would make the series of tubes guy look like Einstein.
>>11391939They're not banned in the US but US Customs has started intercepting the shipments, they're impossible to find.
>>11388864Literally every day, Spatial problem solving has the highest transferability of all forms of problem solving studied so far, so it's part of my workout routine.
Got this brick game last xmas, I actually really like how bold and clear it looks, much better than the screens I remember from the old 90s brick games.I also like that there's Arale-chan on the UI. I suspect it was taken from one of the many Dr. Slump LCD games
>>11390130While the execution wasn't great I really like the idea of CDi Tetris, Tetris with cozy backgrounds with relaxing music is a great combo.>>11388864Last /vr/ Tetris I played was TGM for a bit.
>>11388892>pentaminos in later levelsHeresy.
>>11388864Played it enough to the point I quit for a long timeI could get competition scores back in the day 150-180
>>11390130https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_SwDWKf-78This has one of my all-time favorite video games soundtracks. Seriously, you all should give it a listen, its so tranquil.
Happy 40th birthday Tetris. The odds of a nation which essentially had no home computers or video game industry in 1984 creating the best selling video game franchise of all time is baffling. I believe the Tetris franchise had something like 500 million + sales.Russia won.NES Tetris (Tengen or Nintendo) is my favorite classic Tetris.Magical Tetris Challenge (Picrel) is my favorite non-standard Tetris.Tetris Effect is my favorite modern Tetris and is quite possibly the apex of the entire series. This is the best Tetris game. >BonusMy favorite boxart is Spectrum Holobyte IBM Tetris. I miss when they marketed Tetris as something exotic.
For me, it's NES Tetris Music 3.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wnohlkr9K1I
What are your guys' thoughts on Tetris Flash / Tetris 2?I grew up with it so I love it, but I can imagine it seeming sacrilegious to some.
>>11393716I've never heard of Tetris Flash, but I had Tetris 2 on my Game Boy. I always thought this is what people meant by "Game Boy Tetris" for the longest time because it was the only Game Boy Tetris game I ever played.
Been playing Tetris 99 a lot recently and been thinking about how fucking genius of a game Tetris is. Genuinely a contender for a perfect gameNot sure how obscure it is, but what do you think of Tetris plus?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JE0NdFH7DVY
>>11390130It will never not annoy me how this game uses the B button to drop pieces. The CDi only has two actual face buttons, they couldn't have made down or up on the d-pad do that?
>>11393761Plus is good, feels kinda stiff but Puzzle Mode is a lot of fun and the theme has a lot of charm. I haven't played the Vs mode myself so I can't comment on it.
>>11389606Thanks for reminding me this exists, I just downloaded the original and DX versions. I’m usually not a fan of hacks but man, having modern guideline Tetris running on the gameboy is extremely cool, and as much as love classic, hard drops and block banking is nice.Rosy Retrospection is easily top 3 hacks of all time, so simple yet to transformative. That being said, I think classic and modern Tetris are both equally good, it just depends on the flavor you’re in the mood for.
>>11395547The main thing I dislike about modern Tetris is the bag system where you're guaranteed to get all 7 pieces before it re-shuffles them for the next 7. I understand why they did it, especially for Versus version of Tetris, but I feel like it reduces the randomness too much. What's Tetris without praying for a line piece that never comes, you know?
>>11388908Very cool, great job, could you code a point click and adventure game too if you wanted?
>>11395756The bag system allows you to stack much more aggresively. Without bags you're encouraged to stack as safe as possible so you're never forced to put a piece in a bad spot no matter how unlucky you get. Optimal play without bags is quite boring in my opinion. It never makes sense to set a t-spin for example, because you can't know for sure if you'll even get a t-piece.
Why would you buy a flipper just to play fucking tetris?
>>11388908You're too good for this shitheap.
>>11395830There are definitely trade-offs between the systems. Gameplay-wise, I see it as a sliding scale from "resource management" to "damage control." Full random makes the game much more about damage control and predicting crisis, while the 7-piece bag makes it much more about resource management and using available pieces correctly. I think it would be cool to see a compromise that leans more to the middle, where you have resource management gameplay but a wrench still might be thrown in that you have to deal with. I just personally enjoy the scramble to deal with the game not doing what you needed/expected it to do.
>>11388908see>>11395843
>>11395840If you have a Flipper, why wouldn't you play Tetris on it?
>>11395882The piece randomizer in the Tetris: the Grand Master games is something of a middle ground. Its keeps a history of the last four pieces you dropped, and if the game draws one of the pieces currently in the history, it will redraw. Its able to redraw up to four times before the game gives up and gives you a duplicate. This system ensures you never get a flood of the same piece over and over again, and it reduces the likelihood of droughts. It prevents bullshit scenarios without making survival trivial like it is in guideline.
>>11396571That actually does sound pretty interesting, I might try to play one of those sometime.
