all time classic. either play on ps2 or wii, no other version including the ps4 re-release are worth touching.
>>
>>11390885
just wanted to add onto this because I have bully autism. I didn't recommend the PC port because it can be very inconsistent on modern hardware even with the silent patch. It is a dice roll so typically I recommend a first time playthrough on more consistent hardware.
>>

I still don't understand what the issue with scholarship edition is. I never actually played it since my PS2 copy worked fine but did they do something to completely fuck the game up or something?
>>
>>11390893
It is a crashfest on pc, and since it didn't have autosave, you lose progress.
Had a friend playthrough it recently and he gave up because of the crashing and the last straw was crashing after he forgot to save after around 90 minutes.
Fun game though.
>>
>>11391037
it is fine on wii but its poorly optimized on xbox and PC. what is worse is that the poor optimization is even worse on modern xbox hardware. on 360 the game ran at about 25fps, on xbox one and beyond it runs at about 20. It crashes often.

It's a shame Gary doesn't have more screentime after the turn.

>The ps4 "re-release" is literally the emulated PS2 version, dumbass
yes and it is very poorly done, even worse on ps5 for some reason where there is a full-second input delay that makes the game unplayable. fans agree it is the worst way to play the game
>>
>>11391065
What? Scholarship Edition is great. Much smoother than the original. I've played it on every xbox since it came out.
>>
The atmosphere for this is kinda unmatched still

It's a stupid game to me now, but at the time it was a lot fun back then

Gary's arc made perfect sense. He had a presence and a future as Jimmy's friend.
But he tore all that down because he decided he was better than Jimmy. So he gets beat up, left aside in the gutter, and put in a mental ward for being such a stupid fuck-up of society that he would just backstab a friend for nothing at all.
Forgotten is where he belongs.
>>
>>11392889
your intepretation is low iq desu and misses the best points
>>
>>11393056
My take is simply humanitarian. Gary self destructed because of his evil tendencies. He's a nobody afterward.
>>
>>11392132
I would rather have female Bully than college Bully James or no James

college misses the point in a way even a female protagonist wouldn't

although I feel the opposite about Fooly Cooly
>>
>>11393061
Gary never self-destructed. He was triumphant over everyone and explicitly only taken down by Jimmy (who unrelatedly was also the lynchpin to his success).

You also seem to clearly not understand psychopathy and the Dark Tetrad as a whole.

You have a different worldview from normal people. Normal people believe in objective morality. We believe that wokeness is objectively immoral.

You (being a weirdo) believe in relative morality. You have no way to say that anything is immoral except to point out inconsistencies within people. That's what you're doing right now. You are saying that we are being inconsistent by acting exactly as the woke left does, forgetting that we believe we are objectively correct.

TLDR: you have a stupid world view and you should find God. 100% chance you're an atheist.

Its still crazy that Sony can't even properly emulate their older consoles anymore when they used to have plenty of people that could during the PS3 - PS Vita era. They have all the documentation in theory, and yet some autists on the internet can still do a better job.
>>
I liked the atmosphere but the controls felt really weird, like there was always input lag or like they were too sensitive. Maybe it's because I played the ports though? I get why people like it and I wish I'd played it when it came out, it felt dated to me in a way I couldn't get over. Maybe one day we will get a remake.

Bully should be studied as peak of what makes a video game fun. Bully takes every element unique to video games and merges them into one cohesive experience that actually utilizes the simulation aspects of games to make it greater than a simple action game or racer or platformer.

>Platforming/ Racing - the joy of a 3D platformer or a Driving game is in just moving around. While Jimmy doesn't do tons of jumping, the core ideal of "Make it fun to move around" is key to every aspect of Bully. Whether it's climbing buildings, skating, biking, or sprinting around, movement itself is a core gameplay component (an element often forgotten in modern games). This makes the world into a playground. And it feeds into the ticking clock, the faster you get from A to B the more time in the day.

>Combat - simple to pick up, difficult to master beat em' up combat augmented with tons of learnable throws, combos, moves, and then further amplified with gadgets and prank items that also have systemic impact on the NPCs (like enraging certain cliques.

>Story - every single NPC is a named, unique character with their own traits, on top of that the world is filled with larger than life characters that you hate, love, or laugh at, adding meaning and story context to every action.

>Simulation - the world is totally alive, time is ticking away and you must choose to go to classes (mini games) which almost function like an RPG where you can upgrade fighting, health, get new gadgets, etc., do side missions, or mess around with the world which all impacts your status with the various social cliques. Seasons change and the world reacts, every NPC is unique and can be bullied or seduced or befriended.

All of these elements feed back into eachother making the game a virtuous cycle where every moment is fun and rewarding. Moving, talking, fighting, doing classes, socializing... everything is interactive and every single thing you do in the game gives a reward. It's a masterpiece.

It's weird that no one points out that it's pretty much a Kunio-kun/RCR game in 3D.
>>
>>11396426
I don't think RCR populates the western zeitgeist much beyond old flash cartoons on Newgrounds.
Meanwhile, Bully was well, Bully. Another contemporarily controversial game made by Rockstar, and it was good to boot, so it got a cult following.
That is a neat observation, though. But I never played RCR.
>>
>>11396441
The very first arcade game even had a premise similar to Bully. You're some hot-headed asshole kid who stands up for his friend that gets bullied by various gangs. I don't doubt that Rockstar looked at it for inspiration. Bully obviously does a lot more.
>>
>>11396450
Rockstar almost certainly had RCR as one of their various inspirations.

It is quite possibly Rockstar's finest game. Proof you don't need a big ass map or licensed music, every NPC had a purpose to, they only went downhill from there and I sure as fuck they never touch this license again, nu RS would fuck it up so bad.

you could easily make a game like this in modern day, you just need a less retarded title. jimmy isn't a bully, the game is about a whimsical school life adventure, and bullying is just a natural experience in school.
"dog eat dog" in latinspeak is unironically a better title for the series, rockstar sunk this ship when they decided to call it "bully"

It proofed that R* was able to think what they were doing instead of riding on the bigger and bigger maps and what not which were extremely popular at the time, of course mostly thanks to them. It's a genius idea to have the school and then some of the village and every npc probably had a name and some personality and interests and even a loose schedule like you would see them more at certain times (not like it was tracked in real time but like they had a higher chance to appear).

I guess I'm the only one that googles how to make an old game run well on modern systems as I'm downloading it and it's installing, I played it on PC a couple years back and it ran mostly well, nothing too unbearable
have you guys tried playing the first american mc'gee's alice or prototype 1 on pc?
you have to literally go into some setting and deactivate something everytime you want to play them and then remember to reactivate it when you're done with it
with bully I remember you only had to make the game run on a single core or something (something you can tell the game to do the first time and will do it like that from then onwards) and it ran just well.

Chiptunes use soundchips found in old microcomputer and video game architecture, it's a subtle but distinct difference that would be overlooked by anyone who thinks "chip-tune" is just another way of saying "electronic-music" such as yourself. No hard feelings, you're just wrong.

>>11401602
Hey buddy I said no hard feelings and I meant it, our conceptualization of the phrase "close enough" differs to the point of friction so that can't be helped. Really what it all comes down to is how varied a person's tolerance is towards stylistic definitions, you didn't seem interested in why something has a specific name so your language should match your aloof understanding. Spare yourself from having this conversation again and use the general term of "electronic music" for your own sake if nobody else's.
>>
>>11401656
Sure no hard feelings, but what version of "close enough" doesn't involve a distinct difference? I'm actually asking.
>you didn't seem interested
youre right I'm really not. infact I already knew how chiptune was produced
"Electronic music" is way to vague. I like electronic music. I could have said "gay nerd music" but it sounds like chiptune and that's basically synonymous anyway. Dont take everything so literally.
>>
>>11401681
I would say "close enough" would be an indistinct difference, but what makes something distinct/indistinct is subject to personal knowledgability. That's also why I said the actual issue is not the definition but rather how varied a person's tolerance is towards stylistic definitions, for example you accurately refer to Car Seat Headrest and Femtanyl as gay nerd music and yet neither sounds like chiptune. Silver Apples uses electronic modulation, sure, but nobody would think their music sounds like chiptune music.

Really what it seems like you're saying is "I think synthesizers sound like old video game music" and what I'm saying in response is "I think synthesizers sound like 80s pop". Anyways, thanks for not taking anything I'm saying literally.
>>
>>11401750
But whats an indistinct difference? Could you please give me an example? Maybe I'm being dense but it seems contradictory.

No I think that particular bit of music sounds like chiptune. 80s pop is usually higher quality. The nerd music is obviously supposed to sound like something a basement hobbyist would make.
>thanks for not taking anything I'm saying literally
not everything =/= not anything. Context is key. No hard feelings, remember?
>>
It would be better if it wasnt unfinished and the ports werent garbage.
>>
Could YOU defeat Russel in fair fight?
>>
>>11401834
Russell's pretty easy to beat, you just need to whale on him persistently. So yeah, I could do that.
>>
>>11401774
Like using chicken bouillon rather than boiling your own chicken stock from scratch. Not the same, but similar enough to be an unnoticed replacement. In the case of the music, it is indistinct to you but not to me much like bouillon is good enough for most but would be noticed by cooks.

>The nerd music is obviously supposed to sound like something a basement hobbyist would make.
That's it, it should sound like an upbeat dungeon synth track, it's so minimal that it's like 80s pop to me. They even used a demo beat, using demos for beats is as 80s pop as it gets.

Anything is included in anything, so it seems we are fated to talk past each other. Such is life.

>>
>>11400976
i actually agree with you, it's not actually a chiptune but clearly the track's artist chose those synths to evoke the feel of chiptunes, especially considering it's the theme of a gang of nerds
