>There's nothing new in terms of game design
>Final Fantasy VII is no different from the last game in terms of execution
>the movie scenes are separated by much too long periods of play

Has any FF7fag been able to refute him?

That he said this without a hint of irony refutes him.

The Materia system was new and people are still finding new combinations to this day.
>Final Fantasy VII is no different from the last game in terms of execution.
Ffvii aesthetically was very different than all previous entries, fair critique for the battle system, though it gave you options still.
>the movie scenes are separated by much too long periods of play
Contrarian shitposting just to be contrarian. The movie scenes are appropriately placed.
The dialogue scenes are narrative driven, whether or not you like the narrative will dictate if you like the scenes, overall dumb critique.
>the plot is advanced more through a character's dialogue than his or her actions
Wrong again the plot changes depending on whether you do certain things correctly and or miss things that give extra story details, I.e. the huge materias.
>slow system for battles
The battle system allows for fast or slow battles.
>Final Fantasy VII is far from the near masterpiece that game critics and fans have been calling it
It is that masterpiece and these lazy remedial critiques are far from the smoking gun you think they are.

For a majority of people alive in the late 90s and early 00s, this was their first RPG
>>
>>11392413
This. He'd thrive in today's industry. Because why would I want my game to have more gameplay than cutscenes, right?

What's with all the GITCY threads? Did it get big on tiktok or something?

George was already an RPG veteran, though, so he knew what's up.

This is my favorite George Wood-ism. He says it about a few different games.

Bullshit.

Pokemon was WAY bigger than FF7. The latter only sold 3 mil in the Americas.

George is actually super easy to please: he wants fancy graphics and FMV but doesn't want boring text boxes. It's why he called Donkey Kong Country the best game ever in 1995.

>>11392465
The show was actually called Flights of Fantasy or something and it was a Public Access show with a focus on gaming. Only a handful of full episodes have been posted online. His company (yes he owns a freaking company) rebranded his game reviews as "Gaming in the Clinton Years" and posted them to youtube which is why he became a joke.

There should have been a plot change in the remake where Tifa gets breast cancer.
>>
>>11393403
Totally this. Materia has an effect on mp, hp, status effects on attack and defense, etc… it was an extremely well designed system that most rpgs still can’t surpass. The junction system being right up there too.
>>
>>11393817
Isn’t that in like gta or saints row or something?

>>11392510
Pokemon is to JRPG what rock paper scissors is to chess

>>11393347
The way stats in RPGs work is:
>Higher number = higher value
>Lower number = lower value
It's not exactly complex.
>>
>>11394243
The single player experience maybe. Competitive PvP Pokemon is actually pretty autistic and you need to know shit and be gud
Also, almost any single player jarpig is easy because you can almost always brute force the games with grind
>>
>>11393327
So what's the point of the game again?
>>
>>11392540
Simplicity and complexity are not indicators of quality inherently. It is dependent on the context of the game itself, and how well the system is built.

There's nothing to defend until you make an actual argument
>>
>>11394425
>jrpgs are easy because you can grind levels
>mario is easy because you can grind lives
>shmups are easy because you have infinite lives
>game is easy because you can pick easy mode
>game is easy because you can cheat
I can't believe people are still stupid enough to make this argument. Jrpgs are shit because there are other games that do what they're trying to do but better in every way, but I guess because you can grind in those games too they're shit. You can grind, cheat and lower the difficulty of 99% of videogames so I guess they're all shit?
>>
>>11392405
I'm still flabbergasted this wasn't a satire produced in the 2000's but a real television broadcast in the 90's.
>>

GITCY may have aged badly but so have we
>>
>>11392405
Not innovative, boring and slow dialogue scenes, slow system for battles, not a masterpiece...
Hmm... you're actually talking about Zelda OOT, aren't you?
>>
>>11395002
90s were a good time. early internet/video game sovl era
>>
>>11394909
the difference between grinding lives in mario and grinding levels in a jrpg is that you still need skill to beat a mario level. jrpgs require no skill or thought, just mindless grinding. of course you're too stupid to realize this as a jrpg fan
>>
>Refute him
Almost every fucking review, he says "[game] is impossible without hint book/cheating"
>>
>>11395137
If you have infinite lives you don't need skill to beat a Mario level, you can brute force it by trying over and over again until you win even if you have no skill and learn nothing.
This is a terrible way to play Mario, just as pure grinding is a terrible way to play an RPG.
>>
>>11392423
>The Materia system was new and people are still finding new combinations to this day.
Provide one example.
>>
>>11392405
i always thought gaming in the clinton years was some fake satirical show making fun of boomer adults playing video games but it turns out it was real and george wood was just a dumb boomer on public access.
>>
>>11395901
The guy who uploaded them to youtube originally was unaffiliated with George Wood afaik, and he claimed George died and they were trying to scam money out of others.
>>
>>11395137
Mario and Nintendo games in general require zero skills in order to be finished, anyone can do it. They are games made for broad audiences.
>>
Wasn't there some kind of theory or some shit that George doesn't even really play the games himself, and it's more like other people on the Flights of Fantasy production do that, and write the reviews for him to read? I heard that's why the reviews sound awkward at times and also why by the PS1 era, he says insane shit like Breast cancer and Ambulance game, because it's a bunch of random dudes trying to get some old guy to say insane shit.
>>
>>11394175
nah, you can drive recklessly as long you dont hit any cars or objects

many such cases. Now they roam /vr/
>>
>>11395904
I thought George was part of Navigtr (They even had a video of him playing Wii tennis). I always assumed the whole "Oh, he died in 2005" shit was them pulling a tourrettes guy thing where they wanted to make sure he didn't get harassed irl, but it was pretty clear he was alive as late as 2008 or so.

Doesn't FF7 gives to extra benefits with Materia equips? No need for 2 then or you're massively broken.

It's not the hardest NES games, but SMB1 isn't easy either
>>

that's actually a really good take on the situation. yeah, he would've been old as fuck, like seniority. navigtr pretending he's dead to protect his peaceful last days would just make sense lol
