It's not Famicom's Dark Souls for nothing.
The Dwarves with the swords are annoying because the best way to fight them is to stand perfectly still and just stab them as they get in range. They actually stop a pixel away from hitting you, so as long as you don't move towards them they'll never do anything. But the moment you're in range they instantly attack. Kinda lame. Everything else is fine though.

one of the few NES games that can be described as atmospheric
I really loved it as a kid. I've tried to replay it but I run out of gas as soon as I hit a point where grinding is very hard to avoid. I'm sure there's some optimized grindless route that isn't anything too bad in terms of execution but I don't know it.

There's a grinding trick to getting them fast, but I don't find death magic useful. The shield is better but moreso later in the game.

>>11392505Always loved the earthy color scheme and the fact that there seems to be a large area to explore but I remember not liking the movement much. Might give it another try soon to see if I'll change my mind.
