The Panzer Dragoon games are frustrating because they're almost great games but they're just too slow and repetitive to be truly fun. The series is singlehandedly elevated from 5/10 to 7.5/10 status by its outstanding art design and music.

So I was going to make a thread about this but I guess this will do. Why is the 3D math in this game so wonky? And I don't just mean warping, I mean the visible clipping and polygon dropping issues. Early Saturn games like Daytona can maybe be excused for that but this is a third generation engine. Were Team Andromeda were just shit programmers? I might be persuaded otherwise but the game is also riddled with seemingly random slowdown which suggests an extremely inefficient culling algorithm under the hood.

On the warping, the game seemingly uses no polygon surface subdivision either which leads to extremely prominent warping even by Saturn standards. As a programmer I would have said this was unacceptable. Maybe Andromeda didn't have the polygon budget to subdivide but it's clear from the random slowdown that a lot of the problem there is just internal inefficiency.
