Has anyone tried the ball bearing mod on the 8shitdo m30?
Supposedly the hole in the dpad stem can fit a ball bearing to act as a proper pivot, that way the dpad rolls around the center axis (like a proper saturn dpad) instead of the whole thing depressing when you push down on it.
Basically stock it's like the later revisions of the genesis dpad, very good but getting it to roll elevates it to perfection.
>>
Why not buy an original saturn controller + raphnet adapter?

because an M30 2.4ghz has less latency wired and the same wireless compared to a raphnet. Check the mister controller sheet if you don't believe me.
Also the whole 30 year old plastic thing.
The M30 is $15 when it goes on sale.
Again, out of the box it's great but when you give it a proper pivot it gets elevated to GOAT status.
The question is what's the best way to do so. Having it roll on a ball bearing seems to be the way to go but I have no idea what size to use etc
>>
>>11415161
measure the inside diameter of the hole the BB goes in with some calipers and get a BB of that size, dummy.
>>
>>11415348
Assuming OP doesn't own a caliper they could also just buy like a variety pack of ball bearings on a place like AliExpress and see what fits
Since it's a dpad you don't need anything even remotely resembling quality due to there being fuck all pressure on the bearing
>>
>>11415360
5/32" should be enough right?

ok fellas
ordered 3.5mm, and 3.94mm steel bearings
I also found a listing for nylon 3.5mm so I grabbed that too, in case a steel ball on the PCB causes issues.
Surprisingly cheap, the only issue is that I now have about 300 ball bearings on the way when I only need like 2...

I like the big 6 myself as well, also since I prefer the croissant shape over the boomerang design.
Not sure about durability, but I used mine (wireless on original console) for about a year now and I play the genesis regularely
>>
>>11419151
It triggers my autism that they're using 6btn arcade genesis d-pad variant instead of the d-pad found on the original genesis 3btn model. That og d-pad was much larger and more sturdy, also had less travel time and was more clicky.
Point being is that those retrobits have loose d-pad that is prone to misinputs.

The rest of it is pretty good feeling though, especially considering it was $10 on sale
>>
>>11419151
All the retobit shitters are trash, the dpad always fully depresses with a very shallow pivot
>>
>>11421154
>>11421542
I see what you are talking about, but to be brutally honest I really don't see how this affects gameplay, maybe with the exception of fighting games (and even then you can still get by with no pivot if you just try it for a while).

In that case the only thing I can think of is the Switch pad and the Genesis Mini pad which are basically modeled 1:1 after the original pad, I just tried them and they do in fact have the pivot point.
>>
>>11421675
>I really don't see how this affects gameplay
Because you're a fucking retard
NSO genesis pad and the genesis mini (which is just the retroshit) all have the same shallow pivot issue

This plebbitor went full monkey mode and drilled a hole out for a 4.7mm ball, but I think if you use a 3.5 or maybe 3.9 they should just fit
>>
>>11422347
It sounds more like the controllers always had that and people didn't realize until now. Even >>11415573 and >>11419919 reported the same issue with the og Saturn pad, unless we are all lying
>>
>>11422356
May as well use a trackball or analog stick
>>
>>11422363
It's not the ball bearing that's important, thats just how the original model 1 genesis controllers had a pivot.
I just think using a ball is the best way to give a pivot back.
The JP saturn controller should only have a slight give and not depress all the way like all the other shitters itt.

Just got done trying this out, for the steel bearings I found 3.5mm to be too small and still allowed a click down. I switched to a 4mm bearing and it stops the center push down but it makes the dpad feel tight, maybe too tight. This is on a brand new M30 so maybe i gotta break it in. Tested with King of Fighters and I was hitting my moves without a problem. Gonna sync up my M30 to my Genesis and play some Popful Mail or something to see if I like the 3.5m or 4m ball more

I own the first version of the Pro 2 with no hall effect joysticks and my complain is why the f is the vibration so soft? Is already maxed out in the app or I can't make it a stronger vibration? I used 2 other controllers with my games and there are some vibrations the Pro 2 does not reproduce, why are people praising this controller?

Fine guess I'll spoon feed you a bit
You installed it wrong, you need to pop the dpad off the stem before snapping and screwing the controller back together.
That'll fix the tightness
I'm still deciding what size is best in terms of feel and PCB safety. If you install it like I told you the PCB shouldn't have pressure on it, the only damage would come from the slight metal friction of the new pivot

I don't understand how this thread is this long and no one has even come close to clear cut instructions on what to do with the ball bearing outside of just laying it on the divit in the back of the dpad then putting it back together.
