BKIII is better

There seems to be an endless debate over this.
I want to be perceived as a hardcore gamer though, so I will play SoR3 and not BKIII

Why did SoA censor this? It was just a joke
>>
It's solid. Horrid final boss though.
>>
>>11424161
better movement and combat mechanics, worse enviroments and music. Few cool beats though. Dance club theme and Samurai boss fight themes are catchy as fucks. Kind of lack the chaotic desperation theme of fighting mr x first time as well.

Most of everything else is forgettable.
>>
>>11424161
No. Bare Knuckle 3 is, though.

So it's good or bad?

>>
>>11424161
SoR was always a mediocre beat 'em up. It's great only for its soundtrack at the first two games. The soundtrack at the 3rd one is trash.

SoR mostly sold because it was a poor man's Final Fight since Mega Drive couldn't handle Final Fight while SNES could.

Smoking something or just shit bait? Final Fight would have been a perfect game to play to genesis strengths.

Any defender of the train level?
>>
>>11424161
The japanese version is hands down, the best in the series and probably the best 2D beat-em-up.
>>
>>11427064
*And it drives me insane that when they made SOR4, they ignored all of the improvements that BK3 brought to the series. They just chucked it all under a bus and pretended like it didn't exist.

Going from BK3 to SOR4 is like driving on the highway at 120KM/h and then reaching a city and having to slow down to 60. It just feels fucking wrong.
>>
>>11426997
It's just a tad overlong but I consider it the most atmospheric level in the entire game
>>
>>11424161
it's a good game that's a sequel to a fantastic game so it seems worse
>>
>>11427070
How do you manage the trains? Do you just roll up and down? I started just using the special attack for iframes if I see I won't be able to dodge it but it still gots me from time to time, and getting hit by it takes like 1/3 of the life bar wtf
>>
>>11427078
You can see which side the tram will appear on by the extra vibration motion. Prepare in advance and get out of the way, if enemies don't let you, use the special.
>>
>>11426997
>>11427070
I'd like to hear the reason why if we're talking about the one with one railroad with the ninjas.
>>
>>11427331
The trains come every couple seconds and get in the way of fighting. If you get hit, they tale 1/3 of the health bar so get hit 3 times and you will lose a life. I still haven't been able to beat the level without using a life because of the trains, not the enemies.

I'm just talking about the entire stage, for me 4-1 is the best music in the game, 4-2 is a very atmospheric tune, and the rarity of being underground levels, I don't know, I like the vibe a ton. I also enjoy the boss fight in that one and the music while more experimental again, it's a tune that gets stuck in the head.

As for 4-2, this is the way to deal with it
>>
>>11427946

Grapple them or keep pummeling them, at one time they'll stop blocking. Alternatively throw other enemies at them, they can't block those

my point exactly. people will bitch about SOR3 but then say "but contra is supposed to be impossible"
its a weird elitism
>>
>>11426848
>since Mega Drive couldn't handle Final Fight

final fight got it's own port on sega cd that destroys the snes version, including 5 enemies on screen instead of 3

even final fight 3 snes rarely exceeds more than 3 enemies on screen
>>
>>11427067

The really weird thing is, all of the SoR3 characters are in the game, and retain all of their controls and options. Dashes, up and down lateral dashes, I think they're missing the air-specials and that's it? And so what? I've got the Roo the Kangaroo, your opinion is invalid.

You're likely replying to bait, as all the other anons did. But, Final Fight was on Sega CD, not Genesis.
I think Genesis could have handled FF no problem but it never happened.

Idk it came out 3 years later on a shitty peripherals and had shitty bugs exclusive to the Sega cd version, it's worthless today as it's just the arcade but worse, the sfc one was more like a lite version

I can already make it to robot mr. x but I lose too many lives during the previous levels and reach him with only 1 or 2 lives left, still haven't beaten him.

You can cheese Mr. X with a pattern strat but won't say anything, let's see if you can figure it out
>>
>>11434202
Rolling up and down trying to dodge his mg shots and attacking while he laughs?
I kind of improvised that strat before he killed me with the little hp I had left
>>
>>11434241
nope, it's not that one
>>
>>11434260
Alright, I'll see if I can figure it out. Thanks! Is it possible to beat him without using this cheese strat you mention? Without wasting lives.
>>
>>11434272
I think there's a more advanced strat for speedrunning but I don't think there are more beyond those two, that let you beat him in time for the good ending
>>
>>11434286
I just beat him by mostly spamming grandupper, though he still took me a live
>>
>>11434963
What I do is hit him once using a special or something when he's moving around, then get away horizontally, he'll try to come back by flying at you but you can get him into a pattern with jump attacks then. Keep doing that until you deplete his 496029760246 lifebars.
>>
OP here. Still haven't beaten it but I think I'm close to finally learning the game.
I would say it's a good game, I keep coming back to it.
2 is still a more enjoybale run overall, but 3's more control options really make it fun to play even if the levels aren't too good. Enemy variety is ok, Yamato is a really cool boss fight (maybe my favorite in the series), and I like most of the music, I get why people don't like it but to me it's interesting.

Redpill on the special moves?
>>
>>11438927
You can perform them by gaining enough points without losing a life via forward forward + B, or via command input with a 6 button controller. For example with Axel, try pressing X and then do a backwards-forwards half circle motion. Check the movelist from any faqs or JP manual scans.
>>
What does /vr/ think about Streets of Rage 4? I only just played it a few days ago for the first time and beat it a couple of times. I actually am a bit disappointed with it and find the Genesis era games to all be better. Including the first game. I still do like the game. Its at least fun but I can't see myself returning to it over and over like the old games.
>>
Mike Matei beat the US version of this game on stream, and didn't knew some basics (such as pressing up+jump to avoid damage when thrown).
Possibilities of it being pre-recorded TAS stuff? IIRC he was caught doing something like that before

I'm a SEGAbro since my childhood but Capcom beat em ups > Streets of Rage
Capcom perfected the formula from the jump and remade it repeatedly with different IP
>>
>>11440708

It's fine for what it is. The survival mode in the DLC that adds EVERYBODY from the previous games (aside from Ash, I guess) adds a lot of replayability to it. Sadly they nerfed some of the more broken characters.
SoR2 Skates for instance had the ability to just spindash entire crowds into a corner via continuous Blitz Attacks and combo hit them to oblivion, with the other players tossing fresh meat into his stack. Effectively turning him into some kind of living engine of butchery.

Yeah, they took that out sadly.

Roo can still kinda do it though.
>>
>>11443552

True, but SoR2 is still a very very good example of the genre, and untouchable for it's time. But yes, CPS2 era Capcom was churning out absolute bangers in this genre: AvP, Caddilacs & Dinosaurs, Battle Circuit, Armored Warriors and don't even get me started on their Dungeons and Dragons games. SoM remains one of the most complex and in depth arcade games ever made. Perhaps with good reason, but the achievement stands.

Why has no one ever ported SoR's music to PC trackers?
>>
Not as good as 2 but 3 is at least better than most console beat 'em ups of the time. Granted, that isn't saying too much.

The music is a big step down. The special system is trash because the meter fills too quickly so there's no tension. You'll never feel the need to use a second special in the time it takes for the meter to refill. Its biggest fault is the glacial stage pacing.

Got to Stage 6's boss for the first time. Holy shit these jets are even worse than the sor2 ones. I was happy thinking he was only a cameo after the Shiva fight, but no, of course they had to be in the game. Best strategy? How do you avoid them grabbing you??
>>
>>11443552

>>11444161
I disagree SOR > FF for sure. The best version of FF is the arcade one which you weren't going to be able to take home with you until emulation became a thing. The sequels were also just not as good or memorable compared to the SOR games. So really its just the first FF that is on the level of the SOR games but I feel it falls short of being as good as SOR 2 and 3. Probably even SOR1 desu. I get SOR1 is the most simplistic but I think its a fine video game for what it is and its soundtrack is praised way more than FF.
>>
>>11449582
only american segatards put SOR that high, no one gives a shit about sor in its homeland while FF is the SF2 of beat 'em ups.
By the year sor3 came out Capcom moved on to so many more interesting things already (D&D, Powered Gear, Knights of the Round, Alien vs Predator etc).

Can someone remind me what is the genre style of music this game goes for again? I like the soundtrack a lot even though its very different from the previous games. I actually think the better tracks for SOR3 are on par with the best from SOR1 and SOR2.
>>
>>11450997

>>
>>11450997

>>
Yeah but even the good JP version isn't as good as SoR2, despite the new movement tech that very nearly makes it objectively better in my mind. Soundtrack is underrated and misunderstood.

also--I have no idea what people see in Final Fight. Streets of Rage has everything going for it, whereas I feel like I would lump Final Fight in with any 7 or 8/10 beat 'em up from the early 90s. It's good, but I have no insights as to what makes someone a Final Fight person. The chibi one on NES is pretty neat though.
>>
