Does anyone play PSOv2 on RG35XX+/H, I'm running flycast vr on stock 1.1.16 and the game is damn playable with some small issues(hard to notice artifacts and the game lagging a bit in forest 1), I read some people saying that batocera's dreamcast performance is better, old posts though, is it really the best OS for this game/dc as of right now? Can I install batocera on the second tf slot and keep both OS without having to switch them? Thanks in advance.

Realistically, how long do you guys think it'll take for Mod Retro to release their GBA? How long did it take for the Chromatic to release from when they started showing stuff about it? And what are the odds they cuck it out of GBC compatibility?

How do you know what modern games you can play on the Retroid Pocket 5? Like what really determines it? How can I tell? I know you can play some switch games, and all I'm really interested in playing are just modern 2.5D JRPG like Octopath Traveler, Triangle Strategy, and the likes.
>>
I'm extremely ashamed to say I bought a 28xx because I needed a wifi-less pocketable handheld to deal with soul crushing boredom at work. I was interested in the thing in the OP, but people make the d-pad sound horrific. Which OS available for 28xx is the best?

Was it a retroid pocket 3+? Because that's a problem with the chip. Every tablet and chinkheld that uses it has the exact same problem. (Can be fixed by leaving it plugged in for at least 6 hours)
As for the 35xx, plug out the battery, remove the sd card with the os, plug back in the battery, plug in the charging cable, plug back in the sdcard, unplug and inplug the cable.
>>
>>11442289
just keep it plugged in overnight and restart it, and fresh install the OS is that fails
>>
>>11442292
My bad. I skipped a step. When you put the sdcard back in, press and hold the reset button when plugging in the charging cable.
>>
>>11441987
Well if you are implying compatibility with the most demanding games, then bad luck. You will need to spent at the very least 100$ for the retroid pocket 2s which doesn’t even have the correct ratio.

Form factor looks really nice. Something I wish more handhelds would do is copy Nintendo's New 3DS extra inner shoulder buttons. They were uncomfortable on the N3DS because they were small and placed on a flat top that made it too easy to accidentally press the main shoulder buttons, but a theoretical handheld with these buttons could make tweaks to fix this. Ideally there'd be 4 shoulder buttons and 2 triggers, with the inner bumpers mapping to L3 and R3 (or just extra buttons if the handheld uses anything that's not XInput). I've been spoiled by the DualShock4 and DualSense touchpad acting as a third middle shoulder button on PC (I map it as L3), I want that for handhelds but even better.

Just got a retroid 2s from the black friday sale in the mail. I'm pretty hyped, it runs culdecept without slowdowns so I've been playing that. I'm pretty happy with it's size, it's not a giant thing in my hands like the switch or steam deck, it fits in my pocket. Pretty hyped, going to put more games on it.

I'm thinking of buying an Odin 2 pro for PS2 and GameCube emulation. Is is simple as downloading emulators and roms through wifi and playing? I don't have access to a computer to tinker with files or whatever.

It really isn't, buttons aren't silent, but they are quieter than say, the steam deck or Dual Shock 4, and are identical to the Odin 2, and I haven't heard anyone complain about those being noisy. Still overrated, but I wouldn't consider that one of its problems.

The XX line (H700) is pretty shit for DC. It's good for PS1 and down tho.

>>
>>11443692
I'll bet you 90% of ppl who buy these things use stock.
>>
>>11444170
Comes down to use case. For me, the XX line is best used for arcade/handhelds which are great in 1:1. N64/DC are not real options, so 4:3 isn't important to have. Most of them also don't have sticks, so PS1 is something you can do, but I personally don't bother with.
Short answer - get a 1:1 handheld and use it to play hundreds of classics. If you really want console gaming in your hand, spend more money and get a 4:3 handheld.

I have zero clue what charge this thing has at any moment, and it feels like I’m swapping the batteries a lot more than I should be and end up wasting charge.

For consoles with 1:1 resolutions like the GB/GBC and the Neo Geo Pocket Color it's excellent. Its a really nice screen and its bright enough to use outdoors no problems. For 8-bit consoles like the Turbografx, SNES and NES you'll want to use 8:7 as a resolution to use up more of the screen, 4:3 is technically doable but the borders don't make for a pleasant experience.

>>
>>11444462
It's not integer but with a clean fraction it should look fine using sharp-shimmerless shader.
Alternatively you 4x integer scale and set up a nice overlay, or run Super Game Boy borders.
>>
>>11444474

And?

>>
>>11444484
There isn't one single screen that fits all emulated systems, but higher resolution in general has better coverage.
The RG351P with that unusual 480x320 screen was perfect for GBA (2x integer), but it turned out to be highly ideal for a bunch of other handheld stuff including Game Boy + Game Gear, Pokémon Mini (5x integer perfect fit), Neo Geo Pocket Color.
It was ass for anything home console though, whilst 640x480 as is common for many of these devices generally suits home consoles well.

That RG34XX with its 720x480 screen, remains great for GBA games but is actually a worse fit for integer scaled GBC/GG/PkmnMini/NGPC.
>>
>>11444498
All consoles scale with 480
The handhelds will have a border regardless so why does it matter?
>>
>>11444451
It does feel bad because I can see myself doing that. Waiting for something better. Like now that the RP5 is on the market surely companies will try to out do it right? Maybe they make it but with joystick placement I actually like!
>>
>>11444508
GBA is particularly bad for 640x480 displays because integer scaling only goes 2x to 480x320.
You have to scale 2.666x to fit to 640x427 to avoid the excessively large borders.

Thankfully sharp-shimmerless shader and a good overlay can make GBA games look fine on 640x480 displays, this was figured out pretty quickly with the RG35XXSP.

>>
>>11445143
One of the big changes to Muos firmware was the ability to pick a CPU governor on a per-core basis.
Previously, it was set to "ondemand" for everything, so you had no option to stick things on performance when they really needed it.
A number of more demanding libretro emulation cores and Portmaster ports needed performance governor, even if it does shorten the battery life and may get the device a bit warmer, but I can't say I've noticed the thing getting warm.

I played a bit. It's pretty solid. Has a few options for customization and there's a satisfying thunk when you drop pieces. It's weird that the music keeps playing when you get a gameover. Hold piece being on select means you can't really play at a high speed, but not much you can do on the gameboy. Same situation on rosy retrospective. Wouldn't pay money for it, but might play it over rosy sometimes on my chinkhelds.

Anyone know how Aethersx2's performance on Rocknix usually compares to android on the same device? One of the disappointments of the RP5 for me is its performance with ps2 (can't smoothly run at 2.5-3x res, and anything lower looks bad). I was hoping Rocknix would do better, but it actually runs far worse (even native resolution stutters). It's an older, more broken version of aether, and I'm not sure if I should blame it on that and give up on rocknix, or try again once it is more stable on RP5.
>>
When do you think retro handhelds are going to learn from steam and start using the Steamdeck Joystick/D-pad placement? Having them side by side has been some of the most comfortable gaming experience I've hand.
>>
>>11445870
The performance on the Rocknix side seems totally fucked right now. I tried Dreamcast there hoping the performance would be better for the Per-Pixel setting in Flycast, but I couldn't even upscale with the default settings without dips. Literallly worse than an RP3+. This was a while back now tbf, so maybe things have gotten better.
>>
>>11445887
Never because they're afraid of making the devices wider. they would also have even less of an excuse for the downfiring speakers they love so much. Honestly I get it, but the layout really is damn nice.
>>
GBA. If I get one of those everdrive, could I emulate Master System on it? What else could I play besides Game Boy on a Game Boy? I have the first model with Metroid Fusion and that is it, nothing else.

Just beat Ape Escape. 100% confirmed in my belief that this is the best platformer on the PS1. The looping, recursive level design that mitigates backtracking, the radar that lets you find all the apes without tedium, the well-thought out powerups that naturally synergize with your platforming, the unbelievable music and aesthetics, the almost complete lack of gimmicks (looking at you Sypro), everything was incredible. If there is anyone here who has not yet played it I highly recommend it.

PS1 mini was bad because Sony made stupid decisions, not because "people don't like PS1".
PS1 has a legendary library. Crash 1 2 and 3 were PS1 exclusives so beloved the E3 announcement of the remakes exploded in popularity. Guess which other PS1 trilogy got praised to hell and back? Spyro. Oh, and Tomb Raider (despite not being exclusive, PS1 was the brunt of sales).
Also I have no fucking idea why you say "love is from 3rd party games, not the 'brand'
The fuck does that mean? That people just suck Nintendo's dick no matter what they do? True enough. But "PS1" isn't a brand, "Playstation", as in, the whole ecosystem from 1 through 5 is. Just like "NES" and "SNES" aren't brands. "Nintendo" is.
And out of the two, if I had to choose, I'd go straight with Playstation BECAUSE of the 3rd party games. If I were to buy a system for 1st party games only I'd be limiting myself AND subjecting myself to a single company's way of business until it starts to decay (Read: Chibi-Robo Zip Lash, Mario Tennis Aces, etc) while a system supported by 3rd parties gives me choices.
You nintendo ass-kissing moron.

I still like most Nintendo games and games in their systems but if you're blindly supporting any system/brand over another for no good reason, you have to revalue what you're doing.

because I had a cheeky little crush on anon and was planning on giving it back in exchange for a big smooch, I hope my action didn't turn him into a raging racist or anything...

no but for real, I actually opened up this thread again because I plan on buying the new GBA clone anbernig is releasing. I wish they learned from their SP release and copied more of the original color options. I would have loved an orange GBA knockoff
>>
got my RP2S, surprised it came with a grip even

>>
>>11446240
Wait a minute if that's 1:1 why is there horizontal bezels
>>
>>11446421
Its strange that Anbernic is so inconsistent when it comes to copying more of the original colors. They were happy to copy the Switch lite's hideous colors with the RG505, they even have some nice original colors with the shade of orange the use on the RG28XX. But for some reason they don't want to bring those colors to handhelds that are in high demand.

You mean the Asus Rog Ally X. There's no point in getting the steam deck when the Ally X exists except for the discounted price.

My RGB30 & RG35xxSP arrived yesterday, still waiting on the RG35xx H which is due tommorrow.

how are other anons going with pre-christmas deliveries?

also, damn the RG35xx SP looks so much better in person (the transparent green one)
>>
>>11446818
I really love how the SP feels because it feels like a premium device, but I wish they made the triggers softer like an actual SP. I'm fine with the buttons, just wish the triggers weren't so hard and clicky.
>>
>>11446291
the sleek modernist look just doesn't work on a handheld. it looks pretentious, overpriced, and shitty, which it is. the pocket has one gimmick, being able to play gb/gba cartridges. other than that, it's just like ever other handheld. especially compared to the chromatic, the pocket looks out of touch. modretro changed the game with their screen. it's a whole different experience. not to mention the build quality, controls, and form factor are far superior to the the pocket. the chromatic's case fits cartridges perfectly, making the pocket look like a goofy experiment. and modretro is actually funding entire new GAMES, doing more for the retro scene than reddit ever has. all fueled by the blood of palestintian children what's not to like?
>>
>>11444781
Why don't you play the color hacks of those games?
>>
>>11445728
Every switch game could probably already be able to be run on the RP5 or Odin 2 if the devs didn't get shut down by nintendo

>>
>>11446870
>the pocket has one gimmick, being able to play gb/gba cartridges. other than that, it's just like ever other handheld.
It has the best IPS screen of any handheld, solid build quality and the lowest input lag for every 4th gen and below handheld. I can find something nice to say about pretty much every handheld, the people who call it overpriced are right but the people saying it has no redeeming qualities are retarded fanboys.
>>
>>11446894
Colored games look bad and tend to kill shading in pixel art, I avoid them given the choice. Not my screenshots by the way.

>>11447073
Not improving the d-pad is a stupid choice, think anyone would have given up on this Frankenstein monster if it had the 28xx's?

does the anbernic SP have a color that guarantees the hardware revisions? Is there basically a version of this I can buy that won't have the shitty membranes
>>
>>11447272

>>
>>11447098
of course.
>>
>>11446946
Is there any way to improve the dpad? I was gonna grab it day one but I think I'll wait for a revision or upgrade.
>>
>>11447272

clear red & clear green are the new models only AFAIK.
>>
>>11447272
In theory it should be clear, red and green. People report the old colors are also getting new buttons but I recall at least one guy on shitcord who ordered directly and got old buttons. The membranes are all the same.
>>

>buy a V10 during 11/11, don't wind up touching it until a day or two ago because busy
>only now find out about this

>>11447192
I do think the bad dpad is an inevitability with dpads of that size. Also honestly the good GBA games are mostly turn based or RPGs. Like come on, 9/10 people buying that are just buying it to play Pokemon on.

Probably makes a really good gift for the right kind of person, too.
>>
>>11447485
You think wrong, 28xx's d-pad is actually really good, probably their best after the Sega ones. If not for the weird light bleeding frequency, I'd be shilling it.
>>
>>11447501
I guess I never played anything action-y on it due to the general formfactor but it certainly doesn't feel good. The pivot is also really extreme, which I feel is antithetical to the entire way you use a + shaped d-pad since it makes it hard to move your thumb around. Definitely wouldn't take it over things like the 35XX+ dpad.
>>
>>11447331
might be as simple as a tape mod.
>>
>>11447595
How many non-chinks do you think make IPS displays in the world?
>>
>>11447510
Really? Can't relate, that's exactly why I find it good, it's the closest these ever felt to real d-pads. I have a harder time rolling the Plus and not just because it's stiffer.
>>
>>11442272
Alright so the ONLY charge that works os a steam deck charger for some reason. Literally every other charger ive tried (i tried a lot of them) doesn't work with my RG35XX plus. Even the charger that used to work stopped

If you have a solid red line on the left edge, and solid blue on the right edge, you're good

>>
>>11448467
Larger and heavier but far more versatile due to its power and the fact it's essentially a PC that can be used for TV play or as a desktop if you desire. The trackpads also open the door to games which otherwise wouldn't have been playable handheld.
If you're interested in just emulating up to PS2 in short bursts, RP5 is probably better, but as an all around device steam deck is far better
>>
>>11448012
It's Command Master for GBC, but good luck playing it since it's in Japanese and requires tilt controls. I have a copy but it can be frustrating due to the gimmick, so I just used a game genie code to view the bunny girl's special
