>>11469681It's tedious.
Annoying.
I remember I got a little lost but I understood the water raising/lowering mechanic and the iron boots didn't bother me too much to keep equipping (not as much as today anyway). It wasn't until I went in GameFAQs that I discovered the Water Temple was considered this super hard difficulty cliff where everyone got lost for hours on end. Personally, I found the Fire Temple worse and more annoying but the Water Temple wasn't fun at all when I thought back about it.
>>11469695tl:drWater and Fire Temples are a combined "that part" for me. I try to do them ASAP to get it over with.
>>11469681More of this maps plz
>>11469681it's reddit
Puzzle-wise, it's not bad. It just highlights how annoying the ui is, with having to constantly cut away to menu to use/remove the boots.
>>11469681It's that stupid room underneath the platform that raises up when you fill the room with water then that stupid Time stone where you get the Longshot as a kid I was like 11 playing it on my Wii luckily the internet helped me cause I just watched a walk though but didn't know those rooms existed their was nothing pointing them out besides the cutscenes but you don't barely notice it would've been nice if they pan a shot to show the floor or something sense they had pan shots in the game during cutscenes
>>11469693>>11469694This. The temple isn't really hard, it's just tedious and repetitive going back and forth between the rooms in order to check if there's anything to do after changing the water level. You're also constantly swapping out boots and limited to using only your hookshot while underwater. All these combine to make it mostly a chore to go through.
>>11469681Played the 3DS remaster earlier this year, thought the water temple was vaguely as "hard" as all the others, aka you'll miss a small key and backtrack a bit to find it, but otherwise the progression is entirely linear and obvious.Bombing Dodongo's eyes was more obtuse, but I also figured that out myself, as I noticed that the gaps in the bridge were directly above the eyes, and it's a bomb themed dungeon, SOOOO
>>114699463DS Water Temple is a million times better than N64 because you can map the Iron Boots to hotkey buttons outside of your C-buttons, allowing you to instantly switch between sinking and floating without having to wait 1 second for the menu to load+selecting the Iron Boots+waiting 1 second for the menu to go away each and every single time.
Outside of switching boots, I enjoy the water temple. Actually, there isn't really a dungeon I don't like in the game.
>>11469681It's not the complexity, it's the amount of time and backtracking it takes to change the water level mixed with opening the menu over and over to change the boots.
>>11469681it's no forest or spirit and later water dungeons are certainly better but overall? pretty kino, especially if you use farore's wind.
It's practically parody that the thing Aonuma was most proud of in OoT was the dungeon where the player is basically forbidden from using their sword and instead just plays the flute and changes shoes for 90% of it.
>>11471127>and instead just plays the fluteand it plays those bamboo chimes in the Forest Temple at 2x speed/pitch.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ztKNt1fghcs
>>11469681Water Temple's real flaw wasn't not knowing where to go. It's using a key to open a door, navigate an annoying traversal puzzle only to find a door asking for yet another key, that you don't have.
This thread really makes me give up on Zelda fans. The game is so easy that even as a kid I was struck that it was the easiest game I ever played. And rather than having discussion about the particularly easy dungeons and points they make threads about the handful of things that can offer some challenge. I will not even debate whether the water temple is good or "actually hard". The fact that what peaked your interest is not criticizing the easy stuff but the stuff with a reputation for being hard is just aweful.
>>11469681It's kinoAll the dungeons are good, my least favorite upon several replays would have to be shadow and spirit, they seem to lack substance and flow
Felt like a dungeon. You have to lurk around and explore, get lost, figure out stuff by looking around, go back and around to procede little by little. The only thing annoying was the item management, but thats it.I wish we got more dungeons like this
>Is supposed to make the Water Temple less tedious and get you a heart piece from the lab>Does not make the Water Temple less tedious>Lab Heart Piece is one of the easiest heart pieces to scamThe Spaceworld '97 Water Temple would probably be more fondly remembered desu. The temple starting with no water and having it progressively rise instead of cycling through levels like we got would have been way less of a chore while providing a clear idea of where to go and what to do. And that pagoda looked sick.
>>11469681If you have a functional memory of at least the last 15 minutes this shouldn't be hard. 10 year old me did this without ever getting lost, its pathetic that grown ass men can't.
>>11469681Best dungeon in the entire series. Incredible design, unmatched atmosphere, insanely comfyTerrible bosses
>>11472424The central mechanic gimmick zelda does for some of its worst dungeons is a good lesson for everyone else. Simply don't do that. Core gimmicks should inform how the mechanics you already know change, not become a separate system you have to deal with as if it's a secondary game.

>>11473926Can't use Z-targeting. Pretty much anything else in Link's arsenal is good to go. Deku Nuts stun him. Din's Fire burns him. Bombs hurt him. You might be able to get away with using the Megaton Hammer or Biggoron's Sword with Z-targeting, I can't remember. He has as much health as you, so it can take awhile if you don't have Biggoron's.
>>11473987The regular spin attacks are OP, btw. They pretty much break combat. You can stunlock a lot of enemies with them if a combo + spin or jump attack + spin doesn't do it.
It's strange to me that so many people get filtered by the key at the bottom of the tower. The cutscenes that plays when you raise the water level shows the one platform lifting up with a space underneath it, so it was obvious that you're supposed to go down there. What fucked me was the room hidden behind the bombable wall, one level above where you meet Ruto, simply because I forgot about it after trudging through the next 30~ minutes of the dungeon. That said, Water Temple is probably my favorite temple in the game, next to Deku Tree and Dodongo's Cavern. After years of poopsocking this shit, I've created the perfect solution to the dungeon; and you don't even need the bow to do it.1 Enter dungeon.2 Drop down to bottom, go through room with two torches outside.3 Follow Ruto up, play song to lower water.4 Drop down, light the two torches, get key #1 from inside the room that opens.5 Exit room, go back into the main room and push the gerudo block on the bottom level, leading to the dragon water room with key #2.6 Warp outside the dungeon and re-enter.7 Jump down onto the second level.8 Open the locked door on this level by lighting the torch next to it with Din's Fire.9 Raise water level to middle.10 Grab key #3 from the bottom of the central tower.11 Go back outside the tower, grab key #4 from bombable wall room on second level (in the same area as where you met Ruto).12 Swim back to the surface of the central room, hookshot up to top level, jump to song platform.13 Raise water to highest level.14 Go through top locked door, kill Dark Link, get the longshot.15 Warp back outside and re-enter again.16 Go down to torch room and lower water to bottom again.17 Proceed to the room on the bottom level where you need to longshot past spikes to a locked door.18 Open this door, proceed through the area therein and get the boss key.19 Grab it, warp outside one more time, re-enter and head to Morpha!Water Temple is fucking kino. Nothing else compares.
>>11469681It's complex and needlessly kino.
>>11474867Exactly, and a lot of enemies don't treat it like you're attacking them.
>>11474895Interesting, I don't even think of leaving the dungeon to skip things.
>>11474895There was no indication that there was anything underneath the floating block and it was onscreen for a second. It literally looked like a floor tile without spikes.https://youtu.be/8DYjPvti7TU?t=639
>>11476853Holy shit. What a dead giveaway. I see a giant sign that says "THERE'S SOMETHING DOWN HERE COME GET IT!". You just got your boots and your tunic. Put 'em to use.
>>11469681Neither, the reason people don't like it is because you have to keep going through certain rooms so it feels like backtracking.
>>11476853You cannot process a second's worth of information?
I played it for the first time in like 20 years recently and the modern criticism of switching boots taking a long time is such a trivial complaint. Like damn, people's attention span are absolutely shattered these days
>>11476853why would there be one floor tile without spikes? if the others had no spikes then sure i could see missing it but it seems too conspicuous when there's spiked floors surrounding it.>>11477087it's not fun to pause just for that even if you really don't have to do that often, especially when the pause menu has a delay. in mm and ww for instance you're doing the elegy of emptiness/command melody constantly in some dungeons but you're always changing something with that, not just moving through an area you otherwise can't.
>>11469681if anything it's too simple like every other zelda dungeon, I don't get how actual grown adults can play this game and think this shit is complex

There was a time when I used to think it was just a loss of your inner child and no longer being able to accept weird game logic but learning just how big of an impact one's cognitive abilities for simply pressing buttons quickly or doing extremely simple logic puzzles for children would be had opened my eyes. be warned Anon if you wind up finding yourself doing things like Dean's performance you have a serious issue developing and you should be prepared.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OOjXaAZHEQE
>>11469681I find it to be one of the more interesting and memorable dungeon designs in all of Zelda, and is a temple that gets better on replays for me.The only real problem is having to constantly pause to equip/unequip the heavy boots, which 3D fixes by allowing the boots to be bindable.
>>11477347I dunno, mate. You can't really say people have literal brain damage because they don't want to follow directions. That's pretty fuckin stupid. A tutorial is an opportunity for the player to get to know the game. Fucking around is expected. Pointing your finger at the retard fucking around in the tutorial doesn't really say much, imo. Sure, it sounds good in some convoluted reddit-tier shitfest, but it's pretty much just how people are. You really can't say you don't do and haven't done stupid shit just like that either, so fuck off.
>>11477429We have standards for intelligence. A full grown adult should not struggle on this to the point of whining otherwise you have fallen below standards. Not just for intelligence but for your character. I'm sure some boomer who never played a video game before might be overwhelmed by the water temple, but he wouldn't whine. So add being an effeminate bitch to your list of symptoms along with brain damage.
>>11477472>A full grown adult should not struggle on this to the point of whiningIt's a meme, mate. It's like when you're in high school and everyone says stupid shit just because it sounds cool or funny or it's just the thing to say or something. It's literally the equivalent of "cowabunga, dude", but for zoomers (and manchildren) to aid in identifying one another and to generate camaraderie. "That ducking water temple, mate. It's so hard!" Followed by, "Yeah, man. As hard as your mom sucked my dick last night!!!" Followed by a high five handshake and laughter from both parties. Only they say it in their zoomer, manchildish speech. You were probably too autistic to develop normal relationships and therefore have no idea what normal behavior looks like. Try and get out more, mate. There's lots to see and do.
>>11469681OoT desperately needed more complex and more challenging dungeonsits its biggest flaw. its the core part of the gameloop, and at least 3/4ths of them are so fucking easy that even on your first run they wont take even an hour to get through
>>11477504You mean like an hour each or an hour total? How long do you feel like you need to be playing one game, mate? How difficult do you really think a toy needs to be? It's a game made for children. 10-20 hours is perfect.
>>11477502The guy I replied to is having a mental break down because someone said the water temple should not challenge an adult with a functional brain. That's not "identifying each other". That's just you trying to lessen the pain of insults that ate rightfully deserved. (I was only pretending to be retarded). >>11477524Kek. Take your meds, anon.
>>11469681The biggest problem with the OoT Water Temple is that if you miss one switch or one treasure chest, you'll be forced to walk back thru 60%+ of the entire dungeon to get back to it. And if you haven't been paying attention to what you need, it's very likely that you might end up making that trip at least once. This is assuming you just don't miss something important (like the key under the floor) and just wander the dungeon endlessly. Even the slow movement and the boots aren't too bad the first time around, but when walking thru the dungeon the second or fifth time, it becomes tediously annoying.I seem to recall missing the key under the floor and missing the switch once, but didn't think the dungeon was overly too bad. I'd played LoZ1 and ALttP and those honestly had more difficult dungeons. Like I said, it was the frustration involved in navigating the dungeon to explore it rather than the challenge the dungeon possessed.
>>11477504Correct but it's also a kids game so it makes sense that it's so simple
>>11469695Same. But I found basically all the adult temples took maybe a casual gaming evening each.
>>11477785It's not a kid's game at all.
>>11477735This. The changing the water level mechanic was tedious since you have to keep cycling through the dungeon over and over. With the Iron Boots changing mechanic being so slow, it was intolerable. Jabu Jabu's Belly in Oracle of Time has a similar mechanic and is even worse.
You know how one of the most popular criticisms about OoT in the modern day is how the camera sucks? It's funny because the people who say that are simply ignoring using Z to center the camera. Please do not ban me for saying this...

>>11469681It really needed a better starting room. It just feels way too cramped. Maybe it could have started at the top floor, with the water level at maximum and a high ceiling, sorta like a lake. The first goal would be to get the water down to medium level so you could explore the lower rooms, causing Link to get locked out of the top floor until he gets the hookshot.Basically, you would make your way downwards without the hookshot, beat Dark Link and climb your way back up with the hookshot, eventually returning to the entrance with the hookshot to reach the boss area.
>>11494393i unironically got stumped longer on the fire temple because there's one platform in the room with the moving fire wall that looks too far to reach with a jump so i wandered around thinking i was doing something wrong. water temple really isn't bad, it's my favorite temple aside from morpha which is by far the shittiest boss in the game.
>>11469681shadow temple was worse
>>11495509I honestly still hate the shadow temple. Floaty boots are stupid and knock back from taking damage knocking you into a pit that moves you back tonthenstart of the room is just obnoxious. I still enjoy it but it's my least favorite part of the game.
>>11495569>>11495509Spirit>Forest>Fire>Shadow>WaterAdditionally:Dodongo's Cavern>Great Deku Tree>Jabu Jabu's Belly>Bottom of the WellFinally:Malon>Nabooru>Zelda>Ruto
>>11495659Bottom of the Well is easily superior to at least Dodongo's Cavern. I'd say it might even surpass Shadow Temple.
>>11473926>What's the intended strat for Shadow Link btw?Literally git gud. It's the only time you can really test your dueling skills to the limit. Strats that involve no z-targeting, or hammers, or Biggorron's sword, or Din's Fire are just cheesing. Also, Dark Link will have the same starting health you do, so if you fight him with 3 hearts, he too will have 3 hearts.
The dungeon is great the boots are just annoying, for a good while the best way to play was the 3DS version (ignore censorship whiners that will take a blurry blood texture over massive gameplay improvements), but idk maybe it's a PC pretty now I haven't been paying attention
>>11495703>It's the only time you can really test your dueling skills to the limit. This is why I always save the Water Temple for last on my yearly replay. I max out hearts for the thrill of dueling Dark Link, man to man. Every blow I deal to him is Z-Targeted. By the end I'm mentally drained but ready to fuck up Ganon
>>11495703>Strats that involve no z-targeting, or hammers, or Biggorron's sword, or Din's Fire are just cheesing.Sup Mike matei
>>11473926>do 3 heart run>stand still and cast din's fire 3 times>he dies>lel and move on
>>11495737you dropped this btw
>>11495509>>11495569Kino AF:>The "Kakariko's on fire and Bongo Bongo escapes cutscene". >Blasting the room with Din's Fire to enter. >Taking the boat across the underground river of mist. >Popping the cluster of bomb flowers and watching the statue fall into a bridge. >Freezing Bongo Bongo's hands with Ice Arrows. I love the Shadow Temple. I used to run it for my friend who lived across the street because he didn't like it, lol. Now I love it even more. I can still hear the hands descending on me like a shadow and the battle music intertwined with Stalfos grunts.
>>11495345Kek. I think I got stumped in the same place last time I ran through it.
>>11494393A lot of people on this board in particular seem to think that pretending to not find tedious (if you use this word they really get riled up) things annoying is a virtuous display, as if the appearance of enjoying unfun things makes them cool somehow.
>>11498906The people complaining about tedium are singleing out things like the boots and so far only one guy is making fun of them and gives me the impression of Trolling.
