What is this weird thing that resembles a window? It doesn’t seem to anything, and it only appears once in the game. It is a mystery.
>>11487028It just makes a bunch of K items appear I think. You also have to defeat a mummy that appears here to progress further.
>>11487028It's what the hidden ship door in Rondo of Blood leads to.
>>11487183This makes me want a Castlevania game where they take a ship to bunch of different exotic locations now.
>>11487183Okay, serious questionAre there games that have "passages" that lead to another game (either briefly or not)? I know that you can play original Pitfall in 16-bit one by taking hidden warp
>>11488102I got all up in your mom’s poop “passage” if you know what I mean.
I love shit like this
>>11488102La Mulana (2005) has a secret door leading to Maze of Galious.
The All Stars version got rid of that window thing and replaced it with a generic wall
>>11487028Is this one of the few remaining mysteries of NES games?
>>11488102Goemon on SNES I guess
>>11488102 Baten Kaitos has a dungeon that features screens and music from Tower of Druaga.
>>11487296Order of Ecclesia?
Karnov would have been a high tier game if they had made more than one stage theme
>>11488102In the arcade Gradius 3, getting hit by the final boss' orbs will send you to the first stage of either Gradius or Salamander.
>>11488102Wolfenstein secret levels in Doom 2
>>11488102It's not Retro, but Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom has a portal to Wonder Boy, which the game is an homage to.
>>11492461Pretty much yeah
>>11493420Yeah there's that, but that's mostly still around the transylvania area. I'm thinking more like a voyages of sinbad kind of thing, all sorts of distant exotic locales.I guess PoR kind of has that like with the portrait that sends you to Egypt, but still.
what are some more games in non-mainstream exotic locales/motifs besides Karnov
>>11497221Rygar always seemed unique/exotic to me. I don't know if it's meant to be Greek or something but it looks different enough imo to be its own thing.
>>11497298Yeah I always got strong Proto-Indo-Aryan vibes from Rygar.
>>11488102NetHack has this completely left field feature called the Rogue level, where it pretty much turns into Rogue (mechanics + "graphics") for a single dungeon floor. It's somewhat deep into the game too and the whiplash hit me like a sanity effect the first couple of times I encountered it lol
>>11497807Because that is what its rooted as.
