I wasted so much time as a kid playing this shitty game and never managed to get past level 2. Just being able to beat level 1 took forever. Why can't you kill the aliens with rockets and bombs, but you can kill aliens disguised as humans by jumping on them? Killing aliens would be funner than removing purple off things. The only compliment I can give is a couple of ways to remove purple objects is actually creative, but they're few and far between.
The tree house of horror game for GBC was actually pretty decent.

I feel so bad for you guys that had to deal with this. I was content with the arcade machine my local pizza place had and was still young when road rage and hit and run released. My cousin had that PC virtual Springfield too and that was entertaining for what it was
>>
One of my first games on the NES. I used to think that it was fucking great, but if it weren't for the guide I had in a magazine, I wouldn't be able to even finish the first stage.
I remember that I even asked my dad to draw me the fastest route to get all those rods in the nuclear plant.
>>
>>11488636
I had Bart vs the world and that 3/10 is much better than OPs 2/10. Virtual Bart was decent, I beat every level just never consecutively. Krusty's funhouse was the gem before 6th gen

80s and 90s kids had to make due with what we had, we didnt have infinite options for free games we could drop in 3 minutes if it didn't click for another one.
It didn't matter if a game sucked or not, you still did everything you could to beat it. Or spend quarters at the arcade, if you had any.
Simpsons arcade is the best and Virtual Springfield was a must have for any diehard Simpsons fan.
>>11488730
I saw the ending later on and you don't even fight a final boss. Was so anticlimactic after everything you had to do.
>>
>>11488636
All the NES, SNES and Gameboy games were so different in tone from the show. It's like they were tie-ins to some wacky afternoon cartoon where anything happens and not so much the sitcom Simpsons.
>>
>>11488793
Bart vs. The Aliens was the first and strangest entry in the three games. The series only had one season at the tine so the aliens had nothing to do with Kang and Kodos. The other two's themes were more rooted into Simpsons lore. Maybe it didn't start out as a Simpsons game?
>>
>>11488812
I don't think so. The show's popularity was so big early on that developers churned out games without having much material to work on. Smithers being so out of character in the arcade game is proof of that.

I remember renting this and thinking it was OK. Then I had a relative give this to me for Christmas that year. At that time you would never turn down a free game but I felt mildly disappointed.
I do think the strongest level is the first one as it had the most quasi-adventure game elements. It's held back by the controls and terrible inventory system though.
>>11488759
Oh man, this. When you only have 3 or 4 games (including SMB/Duck Hunt), it forced you to develop master and even develop an appreciation for bad games.
>>11488812
They're all pretty weird. World has Burns sending the Simpsons on a world trip as pretense to have his extended family (including a yeti) murder them. Radioactive Man has comic books characters coming to life.

>The series only had one season at the tine so the aliens had nothing to do with Kang and Kodos.
There was mutant movies in the early years of the Simpsons and even the Tracy Ulman shorts. There was a short where the kids go see a mutant movie where they were underaged and paid off the ticket vendor, and in season 2 Principal Charming, Principal Skinner and Patty go see "Space Mutants V: The Land Down Under". So there were some mutant movies to use for a game, just not heavily focused like in the Halloween shorts.

Which is worse: Simpsons Wrestling or Simpsons Skateboarding?
>>
>>11489987
never played skateboarding, so that
didn't play hit and run either but I heard it was alright
>>
>>11489987
I would take the wrestling jank over the atrocious skateboarding physics. The wrestling is okay and watching kids get beat down by full adults is kinda funny that the town is just okay with Willie pounding the children in the ring. But Simpsons Skateboarding is so bad, the skating physics are terrible, pulling off tricks is awkward, even more repetitive lines, stats are not carried over from each character, it's just low quality Tony Hawk with none of the smart design choices.
>>
>>11488636
Fuck Acclaim for buying up the home console rights to The Simpsons. Just imagine what Konami could have done with the license on Super Nintendo.

>But Simpsons Skateboarding is so bad, the skating physics are terrible, pulling off tricks is awkward, even more repetitive lines, stats are not carried over from each character, it's just low quality Tony Hawk with none of the smart design choices.
The level design is astonishingly poor. If you're constantly putting bizarre and unnatural rails in the levels to link sections together, you have not designed a good skateboarding game.

That slider puzzle music is burned into my memory forever

No GB fans? Camp Deadly is fine (and shout outs to picking up so much health your HP meter goes off screen then losing it all to a pit), Beanstalk is a little fucked, then juggernauts is a mini game thing I hate.
But yes, if you already enjoy the NES ones, camp is worth trying too.

That is the itchy & Scratchy Land level: https://youtu.be/-c5pCNzhTWI?t=8381

All the levels are horrendous. The Springfield Mall one is probably the worst designed of the entire lot.
>>
>>11490590
>The Springfield Mall one is probably the worst designed of the entire lot.
Wow, just like Bart vs. the Space Mutants!
>>
>>11488636
a cliched opinion but the game would have been good if every level was like the first one with the spray paint idea.
(also fix the jumping)
>>
>>11488636
>I wasted so much time as a kid playing this shitty game and never managed to get past level 2. Just being able to beat level 1 took forever.
Literally me. I only bought it and played bc it had Bart Simpson in the art.
I don't know why I kept playing even though it bored me.
>>
>>11490589
This was such a weird game. It was pretty hard, but not for the right reasons.
>>
This game is a rare case (though certainly not the unique) of a western shovelware title having soul
>>

>>11488812
I assumed during season 1, majority of the game developers did not even bother watching the show. They just saw that it was a cartoon and assumed it was like everything else that comes on Saturday mornings and thought Bart just has wacky adventures like fighting monsters, aliens and supervillains. They never really thought that it was a plain ol sitcom. Simpsons surprised everyone by being a normal sitcom.
>>
I only had Bart vs. the World as a kid and I never bothered actually beating it. I guess it was okay for what it was.
>>
>>11488636
same dude, that first level was hard as hell, never beat most of my genesis games but this one was particularly brutal, Hit and Run was awesome, the other ps2 simpsons game was alright too

Any aspiring film makers make some 'toons with this? I've got it set up on Dosbox so I might give it a whirl again soon.

The people who made Space Mutants at least saw enough of Season 1 to know about Ms. Botz and that Sideshow Bob was a villain.

>those off-model Bart's

Did those assholes in the marketing department who did the cover art even see what Bart looked like on the cartoon?
>>
>>11496378
I'm surprised South Park didn't make an equivalent. Would have suited really well to their animation style.
>>
>>11496383
Worst of all, there's a street to the left of the Simpsons house. Now Springfield has very loose geography, but one of the few things that is solid is Flanders living to the left.
>>
>>11496383
I remember Matt Groening saying that when they brought up the idea of merchandise he couldn't imagine how to do Bart's hair in 3d. Shortly after he was in a store and randomly saw a knockoff Bart doll and copied it.
>>
>>11496564
When they did that Treehouse of Horror episode, Homer^3, The guys at PDI weren't sure how to render Homer and Bart in CGI until they realized there were vinyl toy dolls of them so they based their models on them.

Simpsons Game is the best Simpsons Game I’ve ever played.
More faithful to the cartoon than the previous gen ones.
>>
>>11497612
How were the Futurama Game/Family Guy game, also released around the same time (and all cel shaded - I think?)
>>
>>11497612
>that Matt Groening signature

Fuckin' shits me off how much credit Matt Groening gets for The Simpsons. Sam Simon did most of the organizing work at the start (and got paid a fuckload for his credit). The writers, like Conan O'Brien, Schwarzwelder, etc, the scorist, Alf Clausen, the animators and designers like Dave Silber and the show runners like Mirkin, Oakley and Weinstein etc did all the fucking work.

All Matt did was pull some shit about a cartoon family out of his ass at the last minute in front of Jim Brooks who's also was the one who saw actually the potential past Groening's hippy rambling.
>>
>>11496383
I don't think you've ever actually watched old Simpsons.
>>
>>11497324
The Simpsons have never worked in 3D because of their eyes.

cel shading on the PS1? Looks pretty good for a PS1 game.

Season 2, jackass.
>>
>>11496383
Ehh, season 1 was pretty badly made in the first place that almost no one ever remained on model for too long. Everyone was wobbly and their heads were misshapen a lot.
>>
>>11499029
Oh, my bad.

Season 2 doesn't count either.

>>
>>11498217
All that's true but is it really something to be mad over? Most Simpsons fans know all that shit already. Feel sorry for Tracy Ullman. She got outshined by literally the biggest show ever.
Are you that Martin guy that lurks here?
>>
>>11498217
>the writers like Conan O'Brien
Ironic that you would get mad at Matt Groening taking credit when Conan barely had writing credits at all.
>>
>>11499304
The most Conan wrote was "Marge vs. The Monorail".
