What's the definitive version of Pong? I need it to play on a TV at home.
video olympics for the vcs
>>11489282thisOr just code it yourself. It's just pong.
If you're ever in an arcade, avoid picrel as the paddle movement isn't one to one with the paddle and also has delayed input. Get yourself any RF pong console, blast the potentiometers with deoxit, and play it with your friends. The small differences between versions will not matter.
>>11489273Just get a remote form-factor pongsole. Can function as a weapon and/or dildo in case you got tired of pong.
It never even occurred to me there could be different versions of pong. I figured it was so simple a game it either works or doesn't.

>>11490404>different versions of pongYou face off against Aniki in my version.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6YfCkDktd10Though it's not for TV.
>>11489273>What's the definitive version of Pong?table tennis for magnavox odyssey, created by ralph baer. atari's nolan bushnell got allan alcorn to clone it to make pong. it's sad how the first ever video arcade is just a bootleg. atari paid dearly for it.
>>11489604Man I almost got scammed into getting a real "hot deal" on one of these one time. They are so cool.>>11489273The crazy answer would be to look into some pre-2600 gen 1 pong boxes and stuff or play an OG pong cabinet at an expo or something. the real answer: play Pong on an Atari 2600 with paddle controllers. Or at least find some kind of modern day paddle controller and emulate it.
There are browser emulators that provide a supposedly thoroughly accurate recreation of games like space war, tennis for two and XOX. These tend to provide documentation to back up their claim to accuracy, and are usually hosted on the official sites of museums. Is there not one for the original Pong? Physics differ wildly between ports of any older game, the idea may be simple but one version wont be the same as another.
It's more fun to blow up a balloon and bounce it from hand to hand than it is to okay pong
i'd say either atari's arcade game, the odyssey 400, or whatever version of an AY-8-3500 implementation has controllers you like.https://www.pong-story.com/intro.htmthis website has a lot of information about different types of pong. i also like pong next level on psx.
>>11489273>What's the definitive version of Pong? The arcade cabinet made by Atari. >I need it to play on a TV at home. There probably a bunch of ways to do it. It won't be the "definitive" version but there are ways to play it.
>>11497318the arcade version of pong used a regular tv. if you have a way to play it, it can be displayed on pretty much any tv just fine (assuming the tv can do 240p (or technically 246p in pong's case))
>>11489273If you don't have a rotary control don't bother trying to get a "definitive" version
>>11489273unironically?probably the fairchild channel F version>upgraded paddles>can angle shot>graphics and sound upgradesthe most "fun" version is prob on the original odyssey though i cant recommend spending that kind of money in 2025....
>>11489604>the paddle movement isn't one to one with the paddle and also has delayed inputFor fuck's sake. How do you manage to fuck that up?
>>11489273On a modern TV?Atari 50th Collection probably has the best recreation and presentation of 1972 Pong. I can't think of a more "definitive" version other than the original so that would be my answer. My favorite take on Pong is the PS1 version though.
>>11489604it offers unique challenges that make it fun to play with friends, which i have :-)
>>11498584This is the best version. OP is a faggot.
>>11498562not even their faultshitty latency is a thing even with gaming monitors
>>11498648Well, in the case of that pong machine it's using physical paddles and physical ball so you are using digital input to control a mechanical operation.>Five motors drive the mechanism combining logic to simulate the 2D physics of the original game. The ball and the paddles are all controlled by magnets underneath.Makes sense why there is some input delay. Still think it's really neat though and would love to try it.
>>11498658it's fun, just requires a different skillset
