>>11490421Soulless movie, soulless game.
>>11490421I genuinely thought that this was a fake mockup at first
>>11490834What were they thinking with any of this shit. How did this get a fucking video game? On the N64 of all things? Children didn't like Blues Brothers, and NOBODY liked Blues Brothers 2000.
>>11490960To give this classic a sequel, obviously.
>>11490421>>11491106I don't remember Blues Brothers being this much of a "thing" in the 90's.
>>11491108Post-mortem Belushi worship was huge still in the early 90s with VH1 specials and whatnot, especially after Chris Farley died the comparisons were inescapable. Does that explain the games? Not really, but there was a Blues Brothers cartoon in '97 which could help explain it, as every shitty cartoon back then could get a video game.
I was going to post the Coneheads Gameboy game but it turns out it was just a figment of my imagination.
>>11491246>2025>still no Sprockets game for NESfuck this timeline
The only decent Blues Brothers game
>>11490960I remember that it got very good reviews in Nintendo Power.
>>11491108the first one certainly wasthat first movie is a fucking classic>>11490960>Children didn't like Blues Brothersbullshitthat was my favorite movie as a kid>NOBODY liked Blues Brothers 2000.correct
Wasn't there a Nothing but Trouble adaptation for the WonderSwan
>>11491976I really wanted to like this game but.... nah, it sucks. Even the SNES game which has nothing to do with the source material and gives you chad transformation plays better>>11490960> Children didn't like Blues BrothersIt's been one of my favourite movies since I was a kid and I knew nothing about the actors or SNL or anything. It's just that kid of magical movies you can enjoy on several levels.
>>11490421For me, it's willisvanias
I enjoyed BB2k
>>11492132Bait used to be believeable
>>11492160See, your lack of faith is why you can't enjoy things.Sure, it's by far not as good as the first one, but compared to all the other decades-later cashgrabs we get today, it was leagues above that. Plus, I like John Goodman, and Erykah Badou was pretty hot when she was younger.
>>11490960Children love the blues like big mama Thornton and I won’t hear otherwise.
>>11492165Not even that anon, but there's a pitfall in forcing yourself to enjoy something merely because there's worse things around, even when that's the only factor and not the extra bonus of pretending a minority opinion is somehow worthwhile by definition. That's how the idiots at /tv/ have conditioned themselves into "liking" the Star Wars prequels ffs.
>>11492176I watched Blues Brothers 2000 even before I had internet and before the chans existed and I enjoyed it, period.I have nothing to justify, I merely tried to explain its potential appeal to brainfried terminally online faggots who can't fathom things existing before them and can only see everything through their retarded phone lens. You are not one of those, are you, anon?
>>11492185I'm sure doubling down on scenario B can only make your "opinion" less and less embarrassing
>>11492189>can only make your "opinion" less and less embarrassingAgain: I am not trying to justify anything, and it's absolutely valid that you might consider my opinion embarrassing. I like many other things that people consider lame or embarrassing. But it doesn't affect me, so I am free to speak my mind honestly, without being bound by letting others decide what I can think/not think or like/not like.So yeah, I like Blues Brothers 2000. Come at me bro.
>>11490960>NOBODY liked Blues Brothers 2000Why?
>>11491108>>11490960People in Japan love the Blues Brothers. There's even an anime that is sort of a riff on it called Nerima Daikon Bros.
>>11492193You probably like the Star Wars prequels too. It’s respectable to admit you have bad taste but it’s still bad taste.
>>11491612at least we got that Sprockets movie in 2000
Weirdly enough I loved The Blues Brothers as a kid. I saw it on tape at a Kmart or something and it called out to me--my grandparents bought it for me and I watched it a million times. blues brothers anons in here. I hope you've all seen the directors cut. it's the superior way to watch it.
>>11491612This thread has become boring! NOW IS THE TIME ON SPROCKETS WHEN WE DANCE!!
>>11493582People realize the Runaway Five in Earthbound are supposed to be the Blues Brothers, right?
I almost rented this game from blockbuster once
>>11493615>Sprockets movie in 2000There wasn't a Sprockets movie, why are you playing a trick on me?>the project was cancelled in June 2000 after Myers became dissatisfied with his own script...the studio sued Myers for their $3.8 million spent in pre-production costs. One month later, Myers was hit with a second lawsuit...both lawsuits were later settled out of court, whereupon Myers and Welch agreed to make another film with both Universal and Imagine as replacement for the Dieter film...that film became The Cat in the HatMan what the hell.
>>11490421That's got to be some of the most hideous boxart ever
>>11491246Maybe you're thinking of the first game I ever played
>tfw you know about Blues Brothers 2000 using Earthbound 64 assets
The SWAT team at the end of the movie always makes me laugh, those HUT are just too much.
>>11490421> Banjo Kazooie> but with groovy fedsNice box art
>>11495171That would require them knowing more about pop culture than Nintendo and Toonami.
>>11492176>That's how the idiots at /tv/ have conditioned themselves into "liking" the Star Wars prequels ffs.nah, that's borne out of nostalgia/contrarianism. prequel defenders are milliennials that saw them as kids/teens and loved them. then the plinkett reviews came along and they've been seething over them ever since.the prequels are visual spectacles and are wholly star wars movies (which is more than the irredeemable disney movies can say), but good movies they are not.
>>11495389you talkin about the first movie?from the car chase to the end is just the GOATsmashing up like 1000 old cop cars in shitcago, leading the illinois nazi party off of a cliffits hard to pick a fav part desuthe whole movie is just set up like a constant SNL skit
>>11496095>prequel defenders are milliennials that saw them as kids/teens and loved themSame with original trilogy defenders. Star Wars has always been cheesy slop.
>>11495317qrd???
>>11496110>>11496095i disagreei grew up with the prequelsdidnt like emliked a couple of the games from themstraight up do not remember seeing any of them past the first one, which sucked. i think i slept through the 2nd one, and the 3rd one i only remember getting out of it and skateboarding with my friend afterwards, telling him not to bother to go see it.the OG movies were good because they were 80s schlockimo star wars continued relevance in the 90s/00s was ENTIRLY on the backs of the people making vidya for the series during that erathat shit was quality
>>11490960I loved the Blues Brothers as a kid, it's got a ton of slapstick and absurd comedy. It's like a cartoon with real people.>>11492476No John Belushi, uninspired, goofy, made nearly 20 years after the 1st one.
>>11496170You just like the style of 70/80s slop better than 90s/00s slop. Sir Alec Guinness made most of the same criticisms regarding poor dialogue etc for the original movies that people who grew up with the OT made about the prequels later. Star Wars was always like this.
>>11496170>imo star wars continued relevance in the 90s/00s was ENTIRLY on the backs of the people making vidya for the series during that eraIt was the same for the OT but with action figures. Think about how popular Boba Fett was despite being a literal who character with barely any screentime in the films. Had nothing to do with being a compelling, well-written character, it was because he made for a cool toy.
i laughed at your post OP thanks
>>11490421Early example for a Dan-em-up as well as a video game being used as a sequel to a movie(which Ghostbusters also did many years later).
>>11496105>"... ... ... I have always loved you."
>>11496206>You just like the style of 70/80s slop better than 90s/00s slopi think its more that the OGs were more self aware of what they were trying to bethat is, a basic bitch good v evil hero storythe prequels meandered into plot points they really werent equipped to write for, like trying to be some sort of political thriller, a quasi love story etcit was just more confused writingthe original ones were far more concise>>11496208i betmerchandising does a lot of heavy lifting for many IPspokemons another great ex of this
>>11496206>slopOpinion discarded, better luck next time with less buzzwords
>>11496110(You)>>11496170>imo star wars continued relevance in the 90s/00s was ENTIRLY on the backs of the people making vidya for the series during that eravideo games were only part of the much larger merchandising strategy that kept star wars relevant. lucas singlehandedly wrote the book on how to wring the most amount of money out of a film franchise which obviously has had a lasting impact.
>>11496346cope
>>11496346>video games were only part of the much larger merchandising strategy that kept star wars relevantsureim just saying, personally, that the vidya when i was a kid was the singular reason i cared about star wars.you saw a star wars game from lucas arts, and you knew it was gonna be quality
>>11496359Unsurprisingly, the ones who enjoyed the fame the most were the ones who didn't have to show their actual faces on film (mainly the droids and Chewie).
>>11496373Mark Hamill seems like he was always into it
>>11496373>>11496379Didn't the guy who did the Death Star commander (forgot his name) also enjoy the film? He was happy to even get a toy of his image.
WHY IS THIS A FUCKING STAR WARS THREAD
>>11496379His mood towards it seems to wax and wane. Nowadays, Mark seems to be more proud of having voiced The Joker since 1992.
>>11496206>Sir Alec Guinness made most of the same criticisms regarding poor dialogue etI can tell you're a retarded zoomer because you think your opinion is checkin validated because a celebrity shares it. I bet the rest of your opinions are from youtubers who you use as a replacement for having no father. If you're actually a millennial or older that's even more pathetic
>>11496359this interview was done when he was near death btw. guarantee you he didn't regret all the money he got.
>>11490421I fucking love the Blues Brothers--it's my favorite movie of all time, and I think it's a damn shame that there isn't a solid video game about them.I feel like there's some real potential for some sort of weird mashup genre that combines a little GTA city exploration/fucking with cops with some rhythm games, and maybe even some point-and-click adventure vibes with light RPG elements. Plenty of room for dumb mini-games, too.Sadly, I just don't think the crossover between "good game developers" and "people who are autistically obsessed with The Blues Brothers" is a common enough occurence for such a game to ever become reality.
>>11490960>Children didn't like Blues Brothers, and NOBODY liked Blues Brothers 2000.I was 12 when the game came out on the N64 and I loved The Blues Brothers. I even liked 2000. It's not a classic like the original, but it's an extremely underrated movie with a lot of heart, and a ton of great music and car crashes.>>11496202>made nearly 20 years after the 1st one. This was part of its appeal, though. The fact that Elwood was getting out of jail only to find all of his family dead was heartbreaking. The movie is about him finding a new family and taking on a role he was too young and irresponsible to take on in the original movie, and it only worked BECAUSE of the absence of Belushi. The problem is that people went in expecting the exact same thing as the first movie, and of course it wasn't that. But I don't think that means it was bad. Also it's an excuse to watch John Goodman sing and dance, which is always good. Sometimes I watch King Ralph for the same reason.
>>11496382>Keyboard guy is never ever acknowledged, not even in scenes outside their performamces
>>11496463Wonder if that was an homage to Ian Stewart of the rolling stones
>>11496461>King RalphPure, unfiltered kino
I always thought this was based on some movie or TV show I hadn't seen but apparently it isn't?
>>11492476They swapped out charm for cringe.
>>11496563nobut its definitely heavily inspired by a lot of the 8-bit akroydformers that came before it
