Was it an immersive sim?
>>11490797I've only played the TurboGrafx version and Die Hard Arcade. Prefer the TurboGrafx though
Immersive sims are first-person
>>11490835Camera perspective isn't a genre. Just like TPS and FPS are the same genre even though no one admits it.
>>11490797why does the cover look like that? it's kind of disturbing, reminds me of that tragedy
>>11490929Film is from the 1980's anon
>>11490797Die Hard is a Rhythm Game
>>11490943That doesn't matter though
>>11490969It's a Christmas game.
>>11490797I actually played this game this morning. It's a great game that gives players freedom to explore the whole building.
>>11490850TPS is more annoying because your character is always in view. This is especially bad in horror games that zoom the camera in to deliberately restrict your view. These facts alone make FPS a far better genre.
No, and you shouldn't use words if you don't know what they mean. It's an action game.
>>11490929which one?
>>11490943>>11491343https://youtu.be/VkSMSbFV_q0
>>11491421they really shouldn't be laughing at that
>>11490850Kind of hard to feel immersed in third person.
>>11492597Not at all. All the most deeply immersive games that give you a real feeling of presence within a world are third person, as third person cameras enable a wider variety of cinematographic technique to be employed.First person games, and ones that you control with a mouse especially, have this awkward disconnect due to how you don't move or act the way a human with an actual head or neck does in them, and often have your hands just move with your line of sight, so this highlights how artificial the viewport is, in spite of trying to be the most direct replication of a human point of view. It's more immersive to be presented something in a deliberate way that allows it to seem natural, then to try to (badly) replicate something you're very familiar with in a way that's clearly unnatural.
>>11492597Immersive Sims aren't exceptionally immersive, they're exceptionally interactive. It's a misnamed descriptor.
>>11490850Nah you can usually see around corners in third person. Changes the gameplay a decent bit.
>>11490801>Prefer the TurboGrafx thoughwould be a bit better without that level 3 maze
I unironically enjoyed the Trilogy on PS1, even if all three parts were shitty games. They felt like the best we would get outside of stuff like Dynamite Cop, and they were fun if you got past the jank. It was like having a shitty 3d Robotron, a shitty time crisis, and a shitty Driver all staring johnny boy himself.
>>11492632>>11492729Thanks for telling me how I should feel.
>>11490797WHAT DOES THE COVER REMIND YOU OF?
>>11490797Yeah I could almost feel that glass on my bare feet
>>11490797You can call anything an immersive sim these days
>>11493656That's an unfair way to put it. It wasn't a collection of games in a sense like Super Mario All-Stars, in which case you could say "Mario 2 was shitty." All were part of a trilogy and meant to be played in whatever order you liked. Die Hard Trilogy was a fantastic game, really. One of a kind (or three of a kind) action classic.
>>11497041no it isn't, stop trolling
>>11497041Oh I mean shitty in an endearing way, as in I recognize they were very flawed, but they were built like other good games and carried a lot of their good qualities. They were fun as fuck, they just weren't quality.
>>11497527True, I get that. Despite there being better third person-, on-rails and driving games around the devs clearly went their own way in executing each game — they weren't aping popular games or genres. A lot of the jank and imperfections exist probably because of the engine limitations and all portions having been carved from the same wood. However, the awkward uniqueness of the Trilogy comes largely from its arcade and adventure design philosophy... it couldn't be turned into something that is Die Hard Arcade, nor could it live as a plot-heavy adventure game. The immersion is hidden somewhere in-between... lose all lives and that's it BUT survive longer by hoarding those steyr aug's for a more difficult level while playing safe with just the 9mm and a few well placed flash bangs.
>>11497772Yeah game engines weren't really as universal as they are now. I wouldn't be surprised if they set out to make the 3rd person shooter, then the rail shooter and/or the arcade racer were molded to fit the existing engine instead of being designed for it, likely with concessions being made to the first one to get them to work. There were a lot of absolute trash licensed games during that era especially, so it's always nice when there are good "bad" games that do well at their primary goal: being fun.
