Does any retro game come close to these when it comes to OST? They are in a league of their own it feels like.

>>11491130Good soundtracks for sure but nowhere near among the best. There were much larger and more ambitious soundtracks before and not too long after it, like Grandia, Shenmue, any given Final Fantasy game.

>>11491130There's many good ones but on the same exact caliber? No, I don't think so.
>>11491669Look I love OoT just as much as the next guy but to say its soundtrack is untouchable just makes me think you haven't played very many videogames or are just a Nintoddler that refuses to play anything that doesn't have Miyamotos name slapped on it. Its a fine soundtrack but its quite small and really doesn't have anything I would care to listen to on its own, its best music is all atmospheric stuff that Im not exactly bumping on my stereo.

>>11491189It's the way the soundtrack is integrated into the game that really makes it special though. OoT's music is something like a natural part of the world that you interact with, affect and use with your instrument, and that's what set it apart from others.

>>11491130Zelda soundtracks have always been consistently mediocre. They're very simplistic, uncreative, lazy and sound like MIDIs. Even TPs songs sounded like MIDIs despite not being limited by cartridges anymore. We didn't have a Zelda game with properly produced music until Skyward, and the compositions were still just average. If Zelda's songs belonged to any random jrpg from any random company that isn't Nintendo, no one would claim there's nothing special about them.Nintendo in general has never excelled at soundtracks. Among all the big Japanese companies, Nintendo is very clearly the one that produces the lamest and dullest music. Sega and Square in particular are light years above Nintendo.

>>11491679It’s not that serious man. It’s literally just a game lol.I don’t even enjoy Zelda and I consider OoT’s soundtrack in my Top 10. It’s really great. A video game soundtrack doesn’t need to be symphonic to be considered great. A midi track can evoke just as much emotion.
>>11491130the actual sound quality of oot/mm is fucking dogshit. actual osts of the snes (like chrono trigger) blow it out of the fucking water. legend of mana too. the sheet music and modern arrangements of oot's soundtrack are good, but the ACTUAL game music is fucking awful.

>>11495501holy shit I haven't heard about this game in nearly 30 years. I used to play this back in the day, never got to finish the game.
>>11491130It is madness to suggest these are among the best Zelda scores let alone the best game soundtracks. Let's quickly toss Majora out of the way because despite a few really good songs, most of the soundtrack is just bad or recycled from Ocarina, which brings me to THAT soundtrack.Ocarina's soundtrack largely consists of repetitive loops that long overstay their welcome by the end of a dungeon. The ocarina songs are by design too short to be fleshed out pieces, and most of them are just arpeggio variations. I'm sorry but you can't have played many games if you are so cosmically impressed by such an undiverse, unmelodic and short OST as this.FF6's music is one of my least favourite in all of FF, but thinking about how a Super Nintendo game had a 3+ hour soundtrack with orchestral, prog rock, western, opera, ethnic, ragtime, jazz, and more, makes me wonder why a game that came out 4 years later on superior hardware gets so much praise for its mediocre and limited music.
