Pre-rendered graphics in fighting games, yay or nay?
They're cool. They can achieve a certain unique feel, like Killer Instinct and Primal Rage having that stop motion jason & the argonauts visuals
>>11493913Isn't primal rage stop motion?
>>11493919Yes, and also Goro, Kintaro and Motaro
Not a fan, obvious renders just don't do it for me.>>11493901It's spelled "yea or nay," ESL-kun.
>>11493948fuck off
>>11493961ESL-kun.
>>11493989This is internet (google the meaning) not your EFL village LAN full of narrow minded rednecks.
>>11493901Yes, but not exclusively. I like mk, ki, eternal champions, sf and ff/kof. I think they only work in retro games and if you tried to do this today it would be dumb.
>>11494012The Internet is a first world thing.
>>11493948That sprite water effect trick is insanely good, it's a shame this skill is lost through time.
>>11493901KI was the only good one
>>11494297>KI>good
>>11493901we were robbed, give us primal rage 2
I really like the look. Unfortunately, every time I try to search for these games, I get games with pre-rendered backgrounds instead.
>>11494571maybe look up prerendered sprites?
The general term is "digitization". One step down from rotoscoping.Imagine being hired to be digitized into a game but then you're expected to wear this.
>>11494819Digitization for Primal Rage sure, but that's not what OP was talking about. Pre-rendered sprites are digital pictures of things that were digital to begin with.
>>11493901https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BxsNnUAyfd4
>>11494828Yeah but it still went through a "phase change" from being a 3D model into a singular graphic representing a frame of animation. It's on par with taking still photos in order to simply clip out the image and do the same thing to it.In other words any interpolation that could have been captured to create the animation was culled in order to make something frame-by-frame through stills of another medium.
>>11493901>2d sprites in fighting games? Yay or nay>3d models in fighting games? Yay or nay>Digitital Renders in fighting games? Yay or Nay>3d models rendered in fighting games? Yay or nayDepends on the game, this question is retarded.
>>11494552Isn't there already a leaked ROM of basically the full game? It's been played in tournament.
>>11494267
>>11494552The Human shit ruined it, better that it got canned
>>11495312Human shit made it better than the first game
>>11495312I actually liked what they were doing with the game, based on what I saw. It seemed to be better on every front. The avatars were treated more like a part of a singular organism instead of separate entities since you could transform into the other. As a super move or combo mechanic that was pretty forward-thinking for the era.The fighting gameplay was also substantially more considered and nuanced compared to PR1. It's like witnessing the thought process behind Mortal Kombat 9 but well over 10 years earlier (no longer just being strictly content with trying to impress through gore and shock factor but actually make a fighting game where people would enjoy the fights as much as the violence).
>>11493901Only killer instinct pulled it off
>>11493901No, looks ugly. They should all be pretty sprites.
>>11496601Again, KI1 pulled it off well. The arcafe version that is.https://youtu.be/G0uN17uqDuo?feature=shared>could only find so many videos that aint ugly Super Eagle scaled or interpolated as shit
>>11493901It always looked ugly. 100% of the time.Even back when MK3 came out, I remember it looking like shit.
>>11493901so we're at at that stage where we don't know what "pre-rendered" means anymore and just throwing it around attached to anything?
>>11496686What do you mean, you don't know?
>>11495480no the dino shit made it a fun better game, the human shit is retarded. case in point, you
Even as a kid I thought it was garbage, like I was looking at shitty magazine cutouts
>>11497049you probably were in some cases
>>11497034Retard
>>11494819that's not what prerendered means you drooling fuckwit
>>11497034Human characters and revised inputs made it a proper and decent fighting game as opposed to a weird kusoge that the first game was.
