Yeah but it still went through a "phase change" from being a 3D model into a singular graphic representing a frame of animation. It's on par with taking still photos in order to simply clip out the image and do the same thing to it.

In other words any interpolation that could have been captured to create the animation was culled in order to make something frame-by-frame through stills of another medium.

I actually liked what they were doing with the game, based on what I saw. It seemed to be better on every front. The avatars were treated more like a part of a singular organism instead of separate entities since you could transform into the other. As a super move or combo mechanic that was pretty forward-thinking for the era.

The fighting gameplay was also substantially more considered and nuanced compared to PR1. It's like witnessing the thought process behind Mortal Kombat 9 but well over 10 years earlier (no longer just being strictly content with trying to impress through gore and shock factor but actually make a fighting game where people would enjoy the fights as much as the violence).
